Santa Anita for Monday 26 May 2014

Let's call today's card a 6.5 on the 1 to 10 scale.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

8  Saturday Yodeler   doubt all that meant in debut as she ran against the boys........big 46:1 drill since.....should be tough unless she gets caught too wide because of the post

3  Desert Steel   disappointing debut even though she ran ran 2nd as she went off odds on and pressed a lackluster pace and still lacked punch.....but it is hard to ignore how well she trained prior to her debut.....might show up in the p.m. today

7  Global Heart   2F baby races don't tell you much but obviously they do show a horse's ability as far as early speed is concerned........and this filly broke 1st and battled for the lead all the way to the wire at GG.....seems the likely leader here with only 4 1/2 furlongs to stick around

2  Abets Abet

race 2    slightly above average clarity

2  Cyclometer  razor sharp right now working one of the most impressive 6 furlongs at SA in many a moon......best at 6F and and ran awfully well at 6 1/2 in latest

4  Wild Dude   SCRATCHED OUT

1  Wine Police   blinkers on and the drills sure hint that the change made by Peter Miller has worked and maybe to a high degree.......and the trainer has been hot

race 3    slightly below average clarity

7  Candy's Sunrise   very consistent efforts down the hill......wide trip in last or likely would have been in the hunt for the win.......good history back in short rest.......23 days off qualifies for short rest

6  This One's For Mel   exits a fast heat at one notch higher.....and like our top choice seems to fire off of short rest which is the case today

9  Bluegrass Reward   seems better two turns but.......if that isn't the case and he holds form he is a major factor in this affair at 6 1/2F

2  Nobel Medal

race 4    average clarity

4  Forest Romance   1st timer is training well enough to compete especially versus a lackluster group of foes that have previously started

3  Celestial Image   same comment here as our top pick

2  Shop Forever   works prior to his mc debut were decent.......race wasn't but no support at the windows......maybe a tune-up of sorts......fits if it was

8  Time for a J

race 5   below average clarity

10  Pulpit's Express   tepid top pick has tactical speed and he better use it from the outer-most 10 post.........rail is all the way in helps as the run to the 1st turn is a little longer......chances are greatly enhanced if the bug boy can find the one or two path by turn one

6  Volkonsky   improved since Hollendorfer took over the training duties of this five year old......seems like the most likely to hit the board but winning might be a different manner with his (14 1 6 3) record

1  Poshsky  ran very well 1st time with Peter Miller as his trainer off of 7 weeks race albeit on the dirt.......7 weeks off once again this time running on the turf

2  Deraptor

race 6    slightly above average clarity

2  Maverick's Gun   both lifetime dirt races with the blinkers on are very solid here.....and they remain on today......good trainer/rider combo in Koriner/Talamo

1  Stormin Lute   been a long wait for the connections following a claim in August.....finally starts for Miller and company.......likely ready to roll as this gelding has run well fresh in both of his lifetime races

7  Goyan    nice forward move in last.....popped his lifetime best in only his 2nd race out since Periban snatched at the claiming box........good drill since.....will need even more today......not impossible that he gives it

3  W. Giles

race 7    average clarity

3  Stormy Lucy   impressive final time fig in last and I sure like the stretch run that this Moger five-year-old mare has been putting in of late

7  Parranda   5 wins in last 7 races (all by daylight)......3 for 5 at today's turf distance and 1 for 1 for Hollendorfer......should be tough

2  Emotional Kitten   only one Graded victory but she tries hard and will be dangerous with a good trip.....good post to break from and a rider up who knows her well

8  Emollient

race 8    average clarity

6  Benicia Gem   nowheresville in MSW debut in late January........but......training like a vastly different improved individual for trainer Jeff Mullins.......very dangerous and dangerous at a handsome price

5  Bonus Spin   Mullins again here this time with a 1st timer that sure appears ready to roll at 1st asking if her a.m. work is worth a hoot......owns some exceptionally strong drills now and then for the level

7  Say's Who   woke up some in last with the blinkers put on.......will need another move in the right direction if I am right about the potential prowess of the two Mullin's runners......Miller's stock sure has been firing the last couple of weeks so another move forward might be in the cards

2  Afleet Echo

Long-shot consideration:   9  Backseat Blonde   trained well before MSW debut but didn't run well.......continues to train like a runner......takes the blinkers off for 2nd lifetime start........might wake up and duplicate a/m. ability

race 9    average clarity

8  Comealongwithme   on the right end of the learning curve.......and I sure like the step back up into MSW racing following a very strong race down the SA hill turf course in latest

4  Gratification   solid MSW debut at Tam in the slop in mid April......bred for the sod......Proctor with a grass runner!!!!!!.......and Proctor using bug boy Van Dyke down the hill........such a deal

3  See Through   not as cranked up last Fall for lifetime debut which was also down the hill yet ran well at 16 to 1 and 16 to 1 in a 7 horse field.....cranked up this time around for 2nd lifetime race

7  Pouncerounddaclock

11  Bird In Love

9  Humming Beethoven
