Santa Anita for Saturday 7 June 2014

Belmont race 11    average clarity

2  California Chrome   so much the best credentials in this race and I believe he is sharper now than what he was for the Preakness.....his best to date by my book is in the Santa Anita Derby and if he is rebounding to that form he might overcome any lack of ability to get the difficult 12 panels........he might tire but than again if he stalks or sets a slow pace he might blow them away by many

1  Medal Count   sure like his pedigree to appreciate the marathon distance.......can't ask a colt to train any better.......1:10:3 breezing......yikes......bad trip in Derby yet his trip hasn't been talked about much......and lastly he must feel really good for Romans to go against the "Chrome" after being so complementary about his Derby performance

9  Wicked Strong   very bad trip in Derby as Gary I got creamed Stevens can attest to (no DQ?) likes to run wide and has the 9 post with a jock up who has had trouble controlling the late runner in 2 of his 3 races on him.......but he sure looks well prepared to run the race of his life and he owns a decent pedigree to get the 12 furlongs

4  Commanding Curve   seems to fit Bridgmohan very well.........had a good trip in the Derby and might be a major factor late if he gets another nice ride from same jockey.....might sit closer with a better post in which to start from

5  Ride On Curlin   losing Rosario on a deep closer isn't a plus but even though Johnny V is at his best sitting close up he obviously has won with many late runners over his illustrious career

race 1     Santa Anita   average clarity

6  Itsabeautifulday   improving cheap maiden sure looks loose here and if she repeats either of her last two races she will be tough to catch

1  Stracciatella   significant rider upgrade.....significant sharper recent drill.......1st at a route with only a so so pedigree to handle one but his conditioner is 3 for his last 8 1st time at a route

4  I'msoulflattering

race 2    slightly above average clarity

8  Holiday Camp   shelled out the big bucks just 3 months ago so the connections got a good look at what they were purchasing.....and this Baffert two year old 1st timer sure is working like a runner

2  Diamond Majesty   also bought in March at sale and didn't come work tab especially in the speed department.....fairly low % trainer these days but not necessarily with a 1st timer

6  Player's Charm

1  Rowdy Dylan

race 3    average clarity

4  Kochess   both dirt route races (and both at SA) without blinkers stand out as his best two lifetime races and fit solidly in this spot......route/no blinks here

2  Got Even   speed of the speed likely will make life miserable for the other speed types in here at best he hangs on and wires.....good history running two turns yet seldom runs in 2 turn races

5  I Earned It Baby

1  Garen

race 4    average clarity

7  Hold Everything   lately has been speed crazy in two turn dirt races......1st on the grass and drops.....sure looks dangerously loose here if he takes to the sod....decent breeding for it and handled Bhp AW well and most they do like the grass as well.....I am going to miss that angle

6  Know Plans   major like wake-up in last and it is hidden by a brutal trip.......same effort with a better journey and he fits well

1  Misdeed

2  Uncharted Course

race 5    slightly above average clarity

6  Half Dome Dude   solid forward move in last and claimed by Jeff Bonde who is stout 1st out following a claim.....decent history running off of short rest........22 days qualifies for short rest

7  Newfound Gold   another snatched at the claiming box and like our top pick by a dangerous 1st out after a claim trainer in Diodoro.....good history for the gelding at SA and quite consistent

2  Two Is to Many

4  Space Runner

race 6    slightly below average clarity

7  Smart Journey  set a tremendous pace in his last down the hill........2 reassuring works since hint he exited the hill race in good shape.......anyway close to his pace in his last opens up a nice and dangerous lead here

8  Little Professor   fairly decent debut run 50 weeks ago which was also down the hill......and training significantly better this year for start number two.....believe meant and ready fresh off the bench

11  Lindante

5  Troy Story

Long-shot consideration:   4  Unusual Taste   bred just fine to get a turf route.....sprint debut appeared to be needed and it wasn't bad

race 7    average clarity

1  Wonderful Union   most likely his last was a tune-up because his drills since are quite a bit improved.....Ellis has been firing on all cylinders and that should continue here

5  Rocked Twice   another who looks as if his last was a tune-up off of the layoff....... mostly because all 3 lifetime races with short rest are good........and........ he is back in short rest today

4  Van Fraassen

6  Exclude

race 8    below average clarity (but prices)

9  Sidepocket Champ   new trainer and his new pupil is working like a vastly better individual.......shot for a major improvement here

4  Alpha Bullet   strong1st on the grass in last today and now we get a major league rider upgrade..........away for 3 months but training as if he might be ready to roll

2  Will True Up

12  Romar Success

Long-shot consideration:   5  Candy Anniversary   long hiatus from racing but training up to snuff and I like his turf pedigree......1st on the sod and might upset things here if this colt is ready to compete fresh off of bench

race 9    average clarity

4  Can the Man   great work tab even by Bob Baffert standards for this laid up colt......owns significant early speed but also seems ratable.....should be in this from the opening of the gate

5  Rebranded   Sun/Srp invader owns some efforts/figs that fit here and he sure is training over the SA surface like his new environment won't hinder a thing

1  Arkenstone

7  Forever Juanito

race 10    slightly below average clarity

6  Dysprosium   looks loose here with the scratch of the speed-ball and if he is he has a shot to go.........all.........the............way

3  Trelawny   fell off some in last two races but just claimed and they do the right thing by dropping multiple levels........still needs a rebound of sorts even at the lower level

4  All De Victors

5  Depreciable

race 11    slightly below average clarity

7  Southern Sunrise   rushed after a little bit tardy leaving the gate....toss if out........way too nasty of a pace.....usually a good breaker........can rebound this afternoon and open up a lead.....thus dangerous

6  Bright Ocean   one for one on the dirt and it was at trainer takes over in Miller and he likely only accepted the horse if he could run him where he could be tough....lowest level he is eligible to run hint he's ready

4  Bosgue Angel

2  Dehere Is Gone

8  Clubhouse Rock

3  Tenkiller Kid
