Santa Anita for Sunday 22 June 2014

I like this card not only because I believe it to be a decent one to wager on but it also is an interesting one. Not the same old..... getting kind of boring......typical fields......on a drawn out meet......that needs to end. Don't get me wrong as I love Santa Anita but not 6 1/2 straight months of it. I had to cope with the same thing every year at Arlington Park which is a beautiful facility and grounds but too long a meeting.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly below average clarity

4  Diamonddusted   trainer Peter Miller is so very dangerous with drop down layoffs and that is the case here with this laid up three year old filly who is facing the boys

1  Stand by Your Man   plenty of cheap speed in here.........GG invader is capable of taking back.........good shot here if he does take back and of course handles his 1st ever on conventional dirt

3  Cousin Ricky   cut back of one furlong and drop back to level he was claimed might put this gelding in the mix here

race 2    average clarity

1  Xuang Fong   appreciates the abbreviated sprint distance of 5 1/2F (3 2 1 0)........not only has a nice record but has been able to go eye to eye on the front end and still be formidable

4  My Jealous   last two efforts with 3 or 4 weeks rest are strong including his last......steps up a notch for O'Neill.....usually a good indication one of his runners has held form

3  Hamiltonian   declining sort might have bottomed might tell the story as he has the right to move forward 2nd out after the layoff and 2nd race over the track......recent a.m. work isn't bad either

race 3    slightly above average clarity

4  Underhill Drive   seems like a nice "pick-up" by Miller and company of a young filly who "crushed" in her maiden debut at AP.........solid 5F turf time and had plenty of early gas......fits today's condition well.......can be loose here

2  Lakota Road   blocked in the stretch and still won this condition in her last......she should be tough here especially with a cleaner trip.......good rider/trainer combo

5  Sunset Skies   nice effort down the hill especially considering it was off a long layoff......vaulted forward last summer in 2nd lifetime it seems likely we will see more today and more will fit just fine

race 4    average clarity

5  Nikki Allyn   Miller is quite dangerous dropping multiple levels and that is the case here........1st ever on the dirt after two lifetime races on the sod but trains OK on it

3  Spirit of Ten   maiden debut last summer fits well here and is somewhat disguised be not the best of trips.........laid up since her 2nd start back in Nov. but sure is working as if she in meant and ready fresh off the bench......and whereas Canani is weak with 1st time starters he is decent with laid up runners

2  Lady Vronsky   already has shown decent early speed and now adds blinkers......combine that with a 10 lbs. apprentice and the distance of 5F and you have a young filly that might be tough to catch

1  Regift

race 5    average clarity

4  Oscar Party    sure like the bullet 3F drill just 3 days ago for a grass filly that was rank in the early stages of her last......believe she will be sent early and if that happens in this race lacking speed she should be tough on a loose lead

1  Scarlet Strike   working "lights out" seemingly out of nowhere.....hints she is ready to show her spring of 2013 form to some degree.....if she does she will be solid here flying in the late stages

5  Heat Trap   consistent sort especially sprinting on the grass has a little bit more to prove in a turf route.........but gets the red hot Talamo and is trained by Gaines who does awfully well with route grass runners

7  Queen of The Sand

race 6    average clarity

4  Hollywood Producer   rider upgrade.......improved drills.........good early speed and only a 5 furlong race........a trifecta of positive reasons to make this filly our top choice

1  Senso   1st timer's works have steadily improved indicating she is doing well when it counts the most....that being right before her maiden debut.....trainer Yakteen is better than average with maiden claiming 1st timers

6  Italian Harmony   nice wake up in last in a 7F affair.......would have rated higher if this race wasn't over in less than a minute......might have trouble getting up in time.....blinkers on might help......but........why put blinkers on a runner who just woke up?

5  Getaway Keys

race 7    slightly above average clarity

3  Story to Tell   solid (as good as anyone in here) MSW debut win and the work tab since indicates this colt exited the race in great shape.......and he retains the red hot Talamo

4  Holiday Camp   expensive purchase returned a chunk of the large investment in winning his MSW debut impressively.......might be the speed of the speed......back in 2 weeks with an expensive baby..... hints...... he also exited his debut in good condition

5  Wake Up Nick   O'Neill 1st timer went off at 1 to 2 and won by nine lengths back on 1 May.....likely pointed to this race......hasn't missed a beat in the a.m. since his impressive win......not out of this by any means

6  Homer Matt

race 8    slightly above average clarity

1  Seduire   won like a good thing 1st out of the box for Hollendorfer in an abbreviated 4 1/2 furlong race........loved the gallop out for this filly which obviously bodes well for her chances of benefiting from an additional furlong this afternoon

9  Enchanting Lady   Baffert filly is still a maiden but she ran impressively in her MSW debut running 2nd despite a wide trip following a slightly tardy start.....would have been top choice if she hadn't drawn the outer-most post again.....7 post last time and 9 post today.......youngsters often veer out breaking from the outer-most post

4  Morning Coffee   1st starter debuts in a Stakes race but she sure is working as if she can handle the level provided she behaves and gets a good trip in her debut into the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing

2  Lanie Britt

race 9    average clarity

(only 5 selections for the Super High 5 because of the small field of 8)

5  Unusual Taste   trainer has awoken from the doldrums.......three year old gelding has a shot at getting his picture taken this afternoon with another move in the right direction........solid forward move in his 2nd lifetime race

2  J Kat   most likely needed his last.....proven down the SA hill........turf route to turf sprint......retains Nakatani.........all add up to a solid effort this afternoon

4  Play Hard to Get    47 to 1 in MSW (on the sod) at GG strongly suggests the race was a gimme to be at full throttle this afternoon in his 2nd lifetime start.....and the trainer is vastly better with 2nd time starters than 1st time starters
