Santa Anita for Thursday 26 June 2014

Very nice Thursday card to start the final week of racing at Santa Anita. The best card I can recall in quite awhile.  Let's call it an 8.5 on the 1 to 10 scale. Hope the track plays fair.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    slightly above average clarity

3  Two Is to Many   seems like a decent claim by Glatt and company and this spot looks made to order in that their new runner looks loose on the lead......and.......3 of his last 4 races fit solidly including his latest

5  Dr Williams   Kruljac just claimed an improving four year old who is going for 5 wins in a row and he put a very solid drill (somewhat subtle in that it was on the training track at SA) 4F drill into his new runner.......good chance to sit pretty stalking our top pick

4  Mel's Game   declining sort is training as if he isn't totally shot and might be cutting the claiming price in half mostly because he dislikes AW surfaces and Dmr is right around the corner.......dangerous sort

race 2    slightly above average clarity

2  Sing With Bling   on the right end of the learning curve.....sharp work series.....1st at a route but bred to appreciate one......and.......it appears as if Mike Smith can get loose on the front end

1  Yard Line   amazingly strong four lifetime efforts not to have graduated.......blinkers off for today which hints the connections want this stout maiden to sit back a little more in the early stages.....likely will chase our top pick

4  Gold Chaser   claimed for $50K from Baffert and company in what was this fellow's debut.....had a brutal: trip breaking slow - checking - running wide.....bred well for a route of ground......not an easy spot but not impossible

race 3    slightly above average clarity

6  Customer Base   good history when running in non-Graded Stakes races such as this one......won at 1 1/4 and she owns a pedigree that suggests another 1/4 of a mile won't be a problem

2  Charlie Em   scratched on Sunday from a non-winners of two other than allowance race for this.......that hints she is doing well........bred to run all day long so the marathon distance might be a major plus

3  Changethechannel   better turf runner since the blinkers were taken off......way too ambitious placement in latest.......toss it out......fits fine here if she can get the marathon 1 1/2 distance......breeding for it is decent

5  Phonybooksnrecords

race 4    average clarity

5  Singing Kitty   last 3 preparatory drills for this Miyadi 1st timer are awfully solid for a two year old filly Cal-bred maiden in June.......also like how tightly spaced the works are......seems wound up and ready to roll

2  Haaay Sexy Lady   Gary Sherlock has been rather ready with his two year old 1st timers the last couple of years and this filly is working as if she is meant and ready as well

6  Dixie Tweet   exits a very fast heat in her MSW debut.......and two good looking drills since.......debut effort/fig was only 3 or 4 lengths short of what it usually takes to graduate at this level.......and the two works hint of a move forward

8  Fab Four Ever

race 5    average clarity

6  Dickery Do   low % rider especially with grass runners but I can see a good trip in the cards for him here......3 and 5 go and others inside of him are slower......thus.......he can find the wood by turn 1........fits well off of his latest performance if my scenario comes to fruition

7  Stolen Property   improving sort might be the one to beat if he manages a 3rd straight move in the right direction.....and.....of course.......gets a an OK trip

3  Surfer Moon   rebounded in last......only grass race was poor but bred well enough to give the green stuff another try.......50/50 that he handles it......likely the one to beat if he does

8  Pyrotechnics

race  6     slightly above average clarity

4  Sunday Rules   off since late Aug. of 2013 but her drills say ready.........and she must be feeling great for this D'Amato speed-ball not to wait for Dmr where both of her lifetime races were crushing wins..........capable of setting nasty fractions and still sustaining thru the stretch.....few are

8  Tappingintherain   only race at today's 6 1/2F distance stands out as her best lifetime effort by far.........another who is laid up but working as if she is ready fresh.....not impossible if the pace up front is so hot that it greatly aids her closing style

5  Classy Ava   nice forward move in her 2nd lifetime race.......needs another move in the right direction today if our top choice and our 2nd choice fire the effort I think they will......fits if she does progress again

10  Dancinginthestreet

race 7    slightly above average clarity

3  Heat Du Jour   very sharp race in last and claimed by one stout trainer 1st out after a claim in Hollendorfer........last (albeit at a route) sure would be tough to beat and gets 4 lbs off here

7  Happybirthdaybaby   GG invader is 1 for 1 on the SA hill and the race was run 66 days fresh.........49 days fresh today.........and Hollendorfer trained as well......been running well versus better

5  Thermal Nermal    pushed out on the turn in last or would have won instead of finishing 5th......a little short of top two fig wise but 6 lbs off and returns in short rest.........might be feeling good to be entered back quick and willing to run versus tougher

4  Toppers Sunshine

race 8    average clarity

2  Coyotero   1st starter sure is training as if he is meant and ready and has only 5F to deal with.......should be tough with light weight bug boy aboard if he leaves the gate cleanly

1  Midnight Roar   another 1st timer working up to snuff to be ready 1st out of the box.....and his conditioner Blake Heap has been very hot of late

8  Philanderer   trained well prior to debut and only ran so so.....worked well since and drops a couple of levels in mdn claiming......definitely deserves another shot

4  Patriotic Lion

6  Dark Timbers

3  Alsace
