Los Alamitos for Thursday 3 July 2014

Always exciting on opening day when a racetrack is new or reworked as Los Alamitos has been so as to be able to run major league Thoroughbreds. Should be a very interesting 2 weeks of racing until racing starts up at Del Mar.

race 1    slightly above average clarity

3  I'm No Patsy   fits the race condition very nicely........has been facing better than these and seems as if she owns the most early gas in this a sharp reassuring drill on June 19th

5  Fiesta Express   hit the skids in her last couple of the time off seems like a wise move......race 3 back would be very solid here.......major player if she can rebound to it

2  Kid Rollins   off pace sort is consistent and that is always a plus....but she is a little short on ability/figs versus the first two likely needs them not to bring their respective "A games"

race 2    average clarity

1  Take Back Spring   not much in two lifetime starts.......but......blinkers off for today......and sure is working like a vastly improved individual.........feel strongly this filly vaults forward today in her 3rd lifetime start

9  Desert Thief   fell off in 2nd lifetime start following a decent MSW debut.......blinkers on and just worked her best drill to date one week ago......rebound city today

8  Sweet Mz. Poppet   decent forward move in 2nd lifetime start......likely will need another move in the right direction once again today albeit only a small one........speed filly does get a switch to a top gate jock in Maldonado

4  Brazilian Barbeque

race 3    average clarity

6  Twenty Six Acts   terrific works at Tampa.........backed off some since arriving at SA.........trainer (and same owner) had a strong winning run with a 1st timer last week at SA.......dangerous debut runner

1  Citizenship   Baffert runner has been away from the game since November of 2012 but is working as if she is ready to roll just as she was in firing her lifetime best (of 3) in her MSW debut

4  Art of War   Paula Capestro 1st timer is working well enough to possibly be a factor in her MSW debut....trainer is 1 for her last 8 with MSW 1sters and the win return significant

race 4    average clarity

9  Regally Soul    solid layoff run in latest.......two strong efforts/figs late last summer.......seems poised to fire similar today 2nd out following the long hiatus from the game

8  Derringer   sure fits the race condition.........75 % of his career efforts fit well in this our top pick this colt had a good return to the race wars in his last off of a long layoff......reassuring drill since.......seems likely to be a major player here

2  Star Rocker   ultra consistent sort......and so is the trainer.......might get a nice mid pack ground saving trip behind a lively pace.......dangerous

11  Too Fast To Pass

race 5    slightly above average clarity

NOTE:  12 American Style  fits if draws in from the AE list

5  Chattering Class   best by far when running at today's abbreviated 5 1/2 furlong distance.......good gate horse should be in it from the get go

6  Storm the Heaven   laid up since fall but takes that ever dangerous drop from MSW racing into bottom level maiden claiming.....decent work tab.......and decent early speed........seems fairly likely to be factor at the mdn20K level

1  Voluntary   bit short on figs but......switch back to Maldonado might get quite a bit more out of this three year old gelding....also the cut back in distance appears to be a plus

9  Angel Charge

race 6   average clarity

1  Justamitch   very solid 5F time at Otp......claimed my Steven Myadi who finished up the SA meeting on a mini roll.....back quick.....but....... off of only a 5F race which usually isn't as tough to do than at more conventional sprints distances

5  Time for a Hug   awfully big drop down here for a horse that polished off the "Chrome" in his MSW since June but he is working decently......obviously fits if his physical condition has remained intact......toss a coin

9  Shining Son   last three sprint run fit........and today we get a rider upgrade....late runner seemingly gets ample pace up front to flatter his late kick

2  Johnny Reb

race 7   average clarity

9  Storm fighter   3 for 3 at at one mile or 1 1/16th mile on the as if he is well prepared for today's endeavor at one mile......speed is his's speed doing so far at the new oval?

3  Rousing Sermon   seems at his best stalking the lead and he can be in that position here starting from the 3 post......toss out the grass race in his last as his action on it said he didn't care for recent drill........rebound city

8  Tiz a Minister   might be enough pace in this affair for this deep closer to be a factor late.........seems well prepared in the a.m. off of the 5+ month I commented with our top choice how is speed doing so far?

5  Full Dancer

Long-shot consideration:   2  Soi Phet   owns some back numbers that fit and might have really muscled up winning a turf mile with 129 lbs on his back in his last

race 8    average clarity

6  Bea's Bench   no signs that this filly liked the turf in starts no. 2 and 3......maiden debut on the SA dirt is par like for today's level and hidden by 4L of subtle trip little 4F drill hints this filly is still in decent shape

9  Katy's Plum   maiden voyage for 10 lbs. apprentice and I believe the bug has a shot here as the mount is coming off of a grass race where the filly beat 1/2 the field in a 1 1/16th race.....legged up and likely will have something left for the stretch when many in here will be gasping for air and/or feeling the pain

2  Sheza Eyeopener   blinkers on the most likely to get a loose lead......shot to wire if the jock slows things down as she has needed a soft pace to stick around in the past

10  Itsherprerogative

1  Thames Valley

7  Cheeseonaroll
