Los Alamitos for Friday 4 July 2014

So So card today. Let's call it a 4 on the 1 to 10 scale.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Roper   eventful MSW debut on May 16th.......broke a little tardy and checked hard then ran a little wide......same effort with a decent trip and this Belvoir two year old should be tough in his 2nd lifetime start

7  Colorado Strong   drills at Slr seem solid enough for Colorado Stoned (no I mean Strong) to be ready to roll in his MSW debut........young trainer is capable with a 1st timer

4  Notorious   so so work tab for this Hollendorfer first starter but the trainer has been too hot with his babies to ignore....and if our top pick doesn't fire this isn't exactly a key looking group

5  McSwiss

race 2    average clarity

7  Wicked Heat   claim hasn't exactly panned out so Conlon and company drop back into maiden claiming and for $10K less than the purchase price......can be tough here as this three year old ran 2 solid 2nd's for maiden $30K

2  End of Time   decent move forward in latest at Santa Anita.......trains at LA and has always trained exceptionally well on it's surface especially for a cheap claimer.......and Maldonado might get the jump on the field and open up a lead

5  Uncle Luck   strong debut two races back.....new trainer today (Sherman to Deleon).....this race might be a route gimme as the trainer is weak historically 46-90 days off.......but if this gelding is fit and ready for his 1st ever at a route........and..........is up to a repeat effort of his debut......he might be the one to overcome

3  Kaepernick

race 3    slightly below average clarity

1  Half Dome Dude   handicapping 101.......the two speed horses press each other a little too hard.......so.....turn to the closer who you think is up to the best effort which happens to be the "Dude"

5  Newfound Gold   very consistent and just claimed by Bonde who puts up Maldonado and the rider might fit well with this speed horse who is capable of taking back a little if need be......very sharp 4F drill since Bonde took over bodes well for today

4  Courtside   fits well here if he brings his "A game"..... likely needs to avoid a duel with our 2nd pick one way or another

race 4    slightly below average clarity

1  Astutely   blinkers on for today and working sharply for a maiden 20K claimer........off since September but sure appears meant and ready....and....he sure fired a solid maiden debut at Bsr.........rather sure all systems go as they were last Fall in mdn30K debut

4  Three Point Luke   not much in MSW debut last November.....but like our top selection he is training awfully well for a mdn20K competitor.......another who I believe to be meant and ready fresh off of the bench

5  American Style   Patricia Harrington 1st timer is working well enough to possible be dangerous in his maiden debut......the last 1st starting maiden claimer for Pat H. popped at a big price

9  Tribal Flash

race 5    average clarity

6  Ultimate Holiday   connections likely had a handle on what they were getting as this filly was bought at sale in March......drills look good and the trainer has had a good 2014

1  Starlet O'Hara   just OK works by lofty Bob Baffert standards........but........with a much lower purse for MSW runners being offered at LA than what will be at Dmr "OK Baffert works" might be good enough

9  Shh She's Ours   the most impressive work tab by my standards is coming from this 1st timer......so why 3rd choice......might be a difficult (outer-most) nine post......and the jock historically has a low percentage with maiden runners.......still.....seems dangerous despite the weak stat

5  Midnight Candy

race 6   average clarity

6  My Slew   good spot for a seemingly sharp mid pack runner (who has done little wrong on conventional dirt surfaces) as it is likely some fast fractions will be cut setting up his stretch run

1  Teton County   crushed in his maiden claiming debut in fast time and he coasted home going away at the wire.......no shot in layoff last in a 5F Stakes grass race at GG as he broke slowly.........sharp bullet work at Bsr since

3  The Cleanors   poor history running past 6F....so ignore last at 6 1/2F......back to 6F where this Machowsky runner fired his lifetime best.......trainer has been hot of late so we likely will see the effort 2 back if he handles the new surface

5  Peacenik

race 7   average clarity

5  Magic Mark   Ellis charge has won 4 of 5 lifetime route races......and just keeps getting better.....last is par like and makes him the one to overcome.....and........any move in the right direction would make him very tough

3  War Academy   big race (and visually impressive) 7F to 1 1/16th route in the Spring of 2013.......nice 7F effort/win in last.......1 1/16th route today.......the game's not rocket science.....well at least most of the time

1  Old Time Hockey   six year old gelding has spent most of his 22 race career running on the sod..........but he might be at his best on the dirt.......today might answer that question

2  Handsome Mike

race 8    average clarity

3  Swiss Heart   fairly consistent late runner can fly on by a field of weak runners who don't finish up too well.......especially.........with the light weight bug boy aboard

5  Bellanza   morning glory pops those impressive works but has yet to fire in two lifetime starts.......but just worked "big" again ......might be her best work of her life (46:3H 1/36)......often a morning glory will turn things around when they can get the lead and that might happen here

11 AE   Mayie   tossed a clunker in last......two previous lifetime races fit solidly here.........seems like a good sign the red hot Talamo sticks around.......and Marty Jones seems to snapping out of a short dull period

8  La Brisa

4  Charger Girl

7  Amina Perfect

1  Reyna de Colima
