Santa Anita for Saturday 11 October 2014

Nice Saturday card and with a decent pick 6 carryover.. Let's call the card a 7 on the 1 to 10 scale.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Hurricane Lake   claim back by Bonde and he might have the trump card for this gelding as he ran strong efforts in all three races that Bonde started him in.......and Bejarano sticks around with the change of trainers......almost always a good sign

3  Atascaderan   four year old is vastly improved since switching to route racing in his last two races.........and the gelding runs well off of short rest...........23 days off qualifies for "short rest"

2  Uncle Dick   been facing too tough so the drop seems necessary and likely a smart move to risk him being claimed so as to be able to compete for the win.........1st on the conventional dirt but his pedigree for it is OK

race 2    average clarity

2  Ocho Ocho Ocho   James Cassidy has a dismal win % with MSW 1st timers but this two year colt is working too well to be ignored........four straight bullet drills to finish off a.m. work

1  Desert Dynamo   Jeff Bonde 1st timer is also training sharply and he is very good at getting MSW 1st timers ready roll.....and he gets Mr. Bejarano to ride.......mom has tossed 3 winner with 3 starters and 2 precociously won at 2

3  Stand and Salute   decent MSW debut in a small Stakes race at SR.........decent work regiment since........most likely needs a small forward move  and that surely can occur with hard working Jerry Hollendorfer at the helm

8  Zendai

race 3    slightly above average clarity

6  Top Drawer   solid in both lifetime races and his last is somewhat hidden by being close to a hot pace and getting blocked about 3L on the turn........softer spot today

1  Cloudy River   nice forward move in 2nd lifetime endeavor and likely will need to progress again today to challenge our top pick.......good rider/trainer combo to get that accomplished

5  One More Roll   nicely improved with the blinkers on in last.......not impossible here if he manages to build off of the effort

race 4    average clarity

2  Polytechnicien    eight year old ran races at SA last Spring that would handle these quite easily..........big rebound race in last at GG 1st out for his new trainer Gil Matos.........and the rider/trainer (Frey/Matos) are as hot as it gets as a team over the last couple of months winning 6 of their last 8 and the other 2 hit the board.......yikes

5  Sizzlin' Joe  won 1st out following the O'Neill claim in last in a race run at GG....... sharp vastly improved recent a.m. work.......and the replacement trainer (Mora) for O'Neill (suspended for awhile) is on fire this week

7  Press Baron   nicely improved since Baltas claimed 3 races back......well placed for $50K and retains the meets top gun.......should be in the hunt for the circle of joy here

4  Stoney Fleece

race 5    slightly above average clarity

4  Alfa Bird   good MSW debut and training "lights out" on the SA main track since......and the conditioner Victor Garcia is off to a good start at the meeting......should be tough as nails here

3  Simon Kenton    away since lone start way back in Feb........training as if he is returning an improved individual for Richard Mandella with the blinkers being removed for today

5  He's A Bling   competitive in all 4 lifetime races but has been slightly flat when nearing the wire.......switch to Mike Smith can help him can over the maiden hump (no pun intended)

8  Cautious Giant

Long-shot consideration:   2  Starzilla   one race in 2012 is better than appears in print......one race in 2013 is also better than appears in print..........1st time gelding today for his 3rd lifetime start and the operation might settle him down and help him strut his stuff

race 6    slightly above average clarity

2  Luckbox Sam   vastly improved since the blinkers were added two races back both in pace and final time.....showed in the past that the SA turf is OK for him.....and this is 1st time he has run with blinkers on on the sod.....likely lone speed here giving him a big shot at wiring the field

6  Volkonsky   likes the 1 1/8th distance and seems likely to get a nice stalk position in a race lacking much speed........such a deal

9  Lucky J Lane   been very tough when up against Cal-breds and he is facing them today......blinkers back on (and 1st time turf with blinkers) for this Puype runner and Puype is 3 for his last 7 with "blinkers back on"

7  Unusually Green

race 7    below average clarity

8  Denotation   tepid top pick is a ton here if she rebounds to her effort 2 back 1st time running with the blinkers on.........tossed a clunker in last.........drops.........went bad or not seems to be the question.......owner owns a zillion horse's so why not drop is my conclusion but a conclusion with not much conviction

3  April Sky   bad trip in MSW debut is hidden to most......dueled in fast pace on a dull inside in a fast heat.....did well to only get beat by 10L........drops into maiden claiming........like our top pick she sure fits if her health has remained intact

9  Barbs Angel   both lifetime races fit OK here and she might do better than OK today being back in short rest of 9 days......which usually 1sn't a good thing but not for the likes of Barry Abrams

2  Wild Caroline

race 8    average clarity

5  Toledo Eddie   seems to be rebounding.......fits a ton here if the positive form reversal continues this afternoon......owns some big back numbers

8  Full Dancer   8 for 11 on conventional dirt.......and 3 for 4 at today's distance.........and 1st time Rafael Bejarano.........a trifecta of significant positives

1  Got Even    at his best on the SA main track......... speed of the speed here........but at what cost is the question mark

3  Rusty Road

race 9    average clarity

9  Tribal Spy   last three times this filly had 7 to 9 weeks between starts she won.........9 weeks since her last today and a very good looking work regiment......well proven on the SA hill grass course

11  Velvet Mesquite   hard to say much bad about a record of 4 wins in 5 races down the SA hill turf course.......toughest test of her career here by gets weight off and a Hall of Fame rider up

10 Go West Marie   seemingly in top form and I like her stalking style especially here where there really aren't too mans ES types ........and her only race down the SA hill is fairly solid

4  Qiaona

race 10    slightly above average clarity

4  Yes She's A Dancer   very strong efforts in last two races which were at Lrc and the latest effort was hidden.........stalked on a dull inside in a decent heat of MSW runners.........drops into maiden claiming of $40K and why not as she was put up for mdn50K 3 races back.......will be extremely tough if she has held form

7  Holy Ascension   two lifetime starts going off 49 to 1 and 43 to 1 in MSW affairs.........now drops into low priced maiden claiming for Callaghan......seen this picture before......gimme/gimme/go go go

11  Forest Trees   Peter Miller 1st time starter is training as if she is ready to roll......mom tossed 2 of 3 runners that were able to graduate a two

12  Lamist

6  Council Bet

5  Honey in Paradise
