Santa Anita for Thursday 16 October 2013

Can't remember the last time that we had the same clarity rating for the whole race card.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  The Twelfth Man   new trainer and a more accomplished one than his previous conditioner........new jock too........also a more accomplished one......debut was good for this filly........and its  a good sign that she steps up a level today......says she exited her debut in good or better shape

4  Coolington   finally drops to where she might have belonged all along.........last race fits and it is disguised to some extent in that she scrapped the paint on a day it was dull inside

2  Boss Cat   useful somewhat decent mc debut at Del Mar and claimed by Glatt in the race..........decent work regiment since and it is at SA.......and trainer Mark Glatt is better than average 1st start following a claim

race 2    average clarity

6  Jules Journey  not really a sprinter but did manage a 3rd in only sprint down the SA hill grass course........but consistently fires and the field is loaded with early gas and he will be sitting far back..........should be flying late

2  Rangi   very consistent sort and well proven on the SA hill although he tossed a clunker in last.....needs a rebound.........2 months off and a decent work tab........seems likely to bounce back to some extent

1  Bettys Bambino   2 wins and a 3rd in 3 races down the hill......a bit short fig wise on the hill but comes off of an easy win where he got away with a pedestrian pace and wired rather easily.......likely will need to take back here which he is capable of doing........shot at the circle of joy once again if he does

race 3    average clarity

6  Kafister   gelding has proven he can run well fresh and his trainer is fairly decent with laid up runners.........and then there is his record at SA ( 4 3 1 0).......and look who wants the mount......Mr. Bejarano

5  Senor Rain   claimed 5 races back for $25K so running today for $20K doesn't bug me much.......decent history at the distance and at SA......nice lifetime record as well on the main track (26 7 9 3)

3  Oligarch   working super and at SA seemingly out of nowhere........and drops........fits very well if he runs to his a.m. prowess

race 4    average clarity

1  Number Five   exits two consecutive fast heats on the grass and at a distance......good post to snatch a grounding saving stalk or mid pack position......drops some........the one to beat if he has held form

3  Tosheen   three year old gelding likely gets what he needs and that is the lead.........last at 1 1/16th isn't bad and the cut back in distance should help his chances

6  Sir Macho   not much since Spawr claimed but his two lifetime best races were racing off of 6 to 8 weeks rest.........7 weeks since his last......sharp recent 6F drill......Smith sticks around........dangerous

5  Magna Warrior

race 5    average clarity

7  Heat the Rocks   good MSW debut and it is disguised somewhat by running 3 wide on good rail day......did well to only get beat by 4L.........two very remeasuring drills since.....more seems likely today and more with a better journey will be tough

4  Patsy G and Me   GG invader dueled in a suicidal pace and predictably tired.....shows up in the Yakteen barn and he has been able to work 3X over the SA surface.....not much speed in here so he has a decent shot to be loose on the lead and thus dangerous

6  Chexcess   poor trip in MSW debut running too wide on the turn..........two bullet works (albeit over at Bsr) since.......new jock up for today........sub trainer Mora is off to a good start pitching in for the temporally busted O'Neill

3  Niassa

Long-shot consideration:   2  High Intensity   decent debut 2 back......so so in last in a funky looking trip........needs a rebound and maybe a little more.......trainer has been firing better than his fall SA record indicates

race 6    average clarity

NOTE:   13  Sizzling Joe   has a decent shot if he draws into the field from the AE list

4  Fighter Squadron   strong wake-up in last and the turf effort is hidden by too wide of a trip..........and he has put in two improved drills since suggesting the grass muscled him up..........might be sitting on a strong effort.....rider is slumping......might jump start things here

8  Trelawny   consistent grass cutter especially on the SA grass drops back to the level that Diodoro claimed him for.....trainer has had a great 2014 and can keep the good times rolling here

2  Swift Eagle   away since mid August but hasn't missed a bit in the a.m. since........drops........should be in the hunt from the get go in an affair without an abundance of speed and with the rail 30 feet out which often favors front runners

6  Greeley Awesome

race 7     average clarity

1  Steel Lady   after 2 straight good 2nd's in two lifetime races both run at Dmr this filly shipped to SA and popped one powerful race.......strong fig......strong pace........won by 9 1/2............yikes

5  Bonus Spin   late runner seems best at SA and seemingly gets plenty of speed types to help aid her put in a strong late run.......away since late July put a.m. prowess says she is meant and ready

9  Seeking Shamrocks   fell off in last.......what we want is her effort two back which is very strong.......1st on the SA surface but trains as if the transition won't be a hindrance

8  My Monat

race 8    average clarity

1  A B C Me Awesome   nowheresville in debut on the Del Mar synthetic......good race at Lrc in 2nd lifetime start........work tab since hints she has held her form at worst and at best she might move forward.......should be in the race from the get go

7  Stored Attaq   4 lifetime races stack up like this:  2 good races on conventional dirt........2 bad races on the AW.........convention dirt today

8  Hollywood Royalty   good looking work series for this Canani 1st timer and why not start her at the bottom mc level as she went for only $4,500 at sale

9  Ina Mina

10  Bold Decision

4  Indian Proof
