Del Mar for Thursday 13 November 2014

Tough card to decipher. On the proverbial 1 to 10 scale let's call it a 3.5

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Bullwinkle Babe   stepped up in last from mdn40K to mdn75K and the connections knew what they were doing as this filly improved quite a bit and the effort is hidden.........ran wide on an inside condition and did it up near the 4F drill since......steps up again......1st on the grass is a ? mark

2  Dixie Tweet   1st grass race versus company MSW race two back fits well and it was on the lawn at today's distance......1st race since Aug 31st but training as if this filly is all set to compete at a high level for Mark Glatt and company

6  Omorfi Kopella   clean trip position wise in her MSW debut which was down the hill but she sat too far off a pedestrian pace.....did well to snatch 2nd in the late stages.......bred very nicely to handle the two turns

7  Flat Footed Mama

race 2    average clarity

3  Counting Days   believe Cerin and company are dropping this four year old to take advantage of the soon to be defunct synthetic surface at Dmr.......the only two races for this gelding on it are strong

6  Berlusconi   major league wake-up in latest both in pace and final time to break maiden........something to prove on the Dmr AW but if this gelding handles the synthetic and displays the same effort as his last he is likely the one to overcome

7  Designated   nice win in his lone effort at Dmr and it was at today's 1 1/16th distance........made a strong (but maybe a bit too early) 2nd turn move and still was able to hold it together to break his maiden.......toss out last as he sure doesn't appear to handle the SA dirt as well.......back on the soon to be no longer Del Mar AW

5  Prince of Paris

race 3    below average clarity

1  Mama's Trashed    rider upgrade and it is to a go to jock for the trainer.........Baze/Palmer have won 2 of their last 3 as a team and the other hit the board............two useful races for this filly and the best preparatory works of her career........likely sitting on her best ever and she ran 2nd in her last

10  Holy Ascension   best ever was her lone race at Dmr and it was her debut.........very sharp recent drills and back at Dmr........sure seems well prepared to run on the Del Mar synthetic which seems like a wise move as this is most likely her last opportunity ever to run on it's AW surface

2  Kat's Hurricane   handled Dmr fairly well in mc debut back in August......then on Oct 30th at SA she had little to no shot in her next start as she broke badly and ran wide (2nd to last most of the way) and the pace up front was very lackluster

5  Simply in Awe

Long-shot consideration:   12  Saint Marie   1st time on Lasix today and her recent a.m. work is improved......maiden debut two back at Del Mar is better than appears in print......tough post for a 5 1/2F race but lookout if Maldonado can position this filly favorably by the turn

race 4    below average clarity

8  Vow Me Over   on the improve with every start.........ran a solid 2nd in her latest which was at today's racing level and turf distance........don't see any reason why her development shouldn't continue today.........and she was only beaten by 1 1/4L in her latest

9  Doeling   blocked on the turn and the stretch or could have won her MSW debut in a race down the SA hill........bred fine for a turf route and Tom Proctor switches to one of his go to guys in Van Dyke......tough post to cope with at one mile on the sod or would have been top pick

6  Cool Moves   nice work regiment for this Avila 1st timer including a solid 4F drill on the turf and a couple of endurance building 6F & 7F works which obviously is a good thing when a two year old debuts at a mile

4  Satin Cinnamon

race 5    below average clarity

4  Sweet Pizazz   just claimed by Peter Miller and he might own the trump card for this three year old filly as he sure got his new runner to work markedly better.........and this filly seems best sprinting........6F here

3  Moscato Girl   suspicious drop 1st out after the claim because this three year old filly popped a number that is worthy of a move up in claiming not down.......but Spawr has been a little chilly the last few months and might be hungry for a win

2  She's Flush   consistent especially for a fairly low level claiming fact 6 of her last 7 racing endeavors fit well here by my book.......and she is 2 for 6 at Dmr while being 1 for 18 on other main track surfaces

6  Eddie's Girl

race 6    average clarity

1  Cloudy River   competitive in all three lifetime starts and sure has the best looking preparatory a.m. work of anyone in this field........such a deal

4  Wildcat Sailor  won debut at 15 to 1.......might have surprised his connections somewhat as they might not have had him fully cranked up for his debut.......should be "cranked up" now and might handle the higher level and make it 2 for 2

7  Eddie Could Go   decent maiden breaking win at Dmr last summer in his debut off of 75 days 111 days this time around and returns with a major league rider upgrade in Kieren Fallon

5  Global Magician

race 7    below average clarity

8  Winninginfashion    hellooooo turf........lifetime best in latest which was her first ever on the grass......set a very solid pace and barely got beat for the win (in a very fast heat) at today's same level.......speed jock will should be able to shake free once again as the speed of the speed and will be very tough if his filly can duplicate her latest

5  Tangelo   last was OK but if she duplicates the effort she would likely need everything to go right to win.........what we want is a rebound to her effort two back which is quite strong

7  Demonica   bet hard early in her last which was her 1st on the sod...........her connections sure had it right as she took to the turf quite nicely winning by 5 1/2 going away at the wire lengths.......she won loose on the lead but I doubt she gets loose here because our top choice can fly........hopefully Talamo stalks our top pick because challenging her early might be detrimental for both

3  Casey's Clem

Long-shot consideration:   1  Boller Bomb    wide trip in last hides a move forward........filly might sit in a nice stalk or mid pack position in what might develop into a hot pace up front with the 7, 8 & 11 all having significant early speed

race 8    average clarity

3  Vavoom   both lifetime route races including one at Dmr are better than par for today's level...........and his a.m. work hints that he has remained in good form.......sure fits solidly if he has

10  Burning   by far at her best on the Dmr AW so you know Peter Miller wants to win now as the Dmr AW surface will be a thing of the past after Nov 30th........1st time gelding for today and a nice 7F drill at Slr........seems like the surgery has done some good

9  Armensky   effort/fig 2 races back in maiden debut at Del Mar (albeit in a sprint) is basically a par for the level effort........1st at a route but Richard Baltas is stout 1st time at a route winning 31% of the time with his last 40 starters

8  True Visionary

6  Whole Lotta Run

4  Storm the Channel
