Del Mar for Sunday 16 November 2014

Best of luck as always!

Good card today. Let's call it a 7 on the proverbial 1 to 10 scale.

race 1    average clarity

4  Acute    nice steady improvement since Mulhall claimed 4 races back and switching to sprint racing with her new shooter......last versus a better field of $8K claimers fits......another forward move would be icing on the cake

3  Pursuitofparadise   stats look awfully good with this runner......likes Dmr.......likes 6 1/2F.......trainer is strong 1st following a claim........and the trainer is strong with 46-90 days off

5  J and J Express    keeps dropping and not winning but this Belvoir seven year old mare showed signs of life in her last and faces 2 levels softer today

8  Smil'n From Above

race 2    average clarity

1  Light The City   powerful races in both lifetime starts and this Hollendorfer two year old filly is bred to appreciate the extra furlong and sure has runaway in the late stretch versus her competition at 6F

3  Into Oblivion   lone win in 3 races to date came in her only race at Dmr and it was her MSW debut and quite the impressive effort.........turf route in last didn't work out so well but it should help this filly get the 7 panels

5  Xoxo    two year old filly has displayed sizzling early speed in her two lifetime races........blinkers off today most likely to slow her down a little.......and........she sure put in a strong 5F drill at Slr hinting the equipment change is a plus......dangerous trainer/jockey combo especially with a speed horse

race 3    above average clarity

1  Steam Play    sensational 110:3 handling from the gate work for this Baffert 1st timer.....most likely one very nice prospect

3  Force   best set of drills for a Mark Casse maiden debut runner in California that I can recall.........New York bred likely will be a force in this race

6  Serbian Syclone   when you get caught 4 wide up on the pace in debut you have every right to cash it in.....that is what happened to this Peter Miller runner........jock will be out to make amends today in career start no. 2 for this two year old colt

4  Lost in D Shuffle

race 4    above average clarity

7  Kozani   all three lifetime one mile grass races fit solidly here and the last two are disguised by bad trips........doubt this is a tune-up off of the layoff or Diodoro would have protected him in a non claiming affair

2  Tosheen    seemingly never sharper and likely will attempt to shake free from the 1 and the 7 horse and wire the field

5  Sudden Rumor   best credentials of the off pace runners in the race.......late running threat if this D'Amato runner gets enough pace up front to flatter his late run down the stretch

6  Public Policy

race 5    average clarity

10  Smokey's Legacy   best at Dmr and most likely the last chance to take advantage of it's AW surface so back to mdn20K where he started his career.......off pace runner gets ample pace to close into....stout rider/trainer team ( and they are friends too)

3  Eleven Zip   likes the5 1/2F distance as he flattens too much running anything further than 5 1/2F......handles the Dmr AW........mid pack runner might get a nice ground saving position from the 3 post with plenty of speed up front

8  Militant  seems best of the speed types and the cut back of 1 1/2 furlongs sure appears to be a major plus

9  Boss Cat

race 6    average clarity

4  Sir Barclay   trainer Vann Belvoir loves to win using the turf to AW angle......turf non-claiming race in last........all weather race today

7  Dynamo Dixie   shipper winds up in the Glatt barn.........tree year old is 3 for 6 at the distance.......and 4 for 7 on the GG AW.......and most that handle the synthetic at GG also appreciate the Dmr AW

5  Mosso   near miss at 72 to 1 in last was needless to say quite the awakening......love the sharp work since......quite reassuring.........might have legged up from such a solid improvement in time/effort.......lookout if he did

8  W. Giles

Long-shot consideration:   1  Rosie's Hurricane   Boise racing star is tough to gauge where he belongs......but one thing for sure he knows how to compete......and it wouldn't be the 1st time in S Cal that a small circuit runner upset the apple cart

race 7    above average clarity

3  Wild At Best   so so effort in lone lifetime race which was way back in Feb.........shows up in  a much more accomplished barn this time around and Hollendorfer sure has him training as if she's 100% ready........rather convinced this filly is vastly improved

9  Fast Magoo   very good early speed.......running off of a muscled her up grass race down the SA hill......and the cut back in distance seems like a plus......a trifecta of positives

2  Radiant Journey

4  Flyin For A Livin

race 8    below average clarity

NOTE:   AE no. 10 Well Measured has a shot here if he draws into the field

7  John's Journey   big wake up in last and vastly improved works since.......believe this gelding is sitting on his best ever today

6  Eddies Turn    unreal race once on the grass that would crush here.....but so so efforts in other grass races...........can her connections get that race out of him today is the question

4  He's On His Toes   I've been waiting for this decent sprinter on the main track to get his shot sprinting on the grass as he is bred well for it.....so much so he might be quit a bit better on it.....we shall see

5  Smart Journey

Long-shot consideration:    2  Sir Kip   somewhat decent obscure grass pedigree for this gelding........ at least for sprinting on the sod......sharp right now and fast early.........kind of cheap but cheap horses can win 5 furlong grass races

race 9    average clarity

7  Tough Sunday   19 to 1 in MSW debut hints this Steven Myadi colt needed his debut and yet his debut was decent and disguised by a bad trip........so if he wasn't all that cranked up lookout today as a move forward with a better trip would make him tough here

8  Dr. Suer   fairly decent mc debut last.......blinkers on and improved drills and steps up into MSW racing.......all good a good signs the equipment change and the race under his belt has improved him

4  Swiss Silver   wide trip 2nd two back and it was at today's 6 1/2F distance........not much in last but his a.m. prowess since is markedly improved........rebound seems likely today and at a distance he has shown he can handle

10  Price Of Glory

3  Neveradoubt

6  Swiiss Brew
