Del Mar for Sunday 30 November 2014

Decent card to finish the brief Del Mar meeting. Los Alamitos opens up on Thursday. We will be ready.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Valentine Boy   solid move forward in latest running a little wide on a day the rail was a highway........reassuring work since..........and (5 2 1 2) at today's distance

5  Deep Play   gelding runs well when he can sit close to the lead in route races.....this of course is a sprint but a sprint without much speed........so.........he might be able to sit close..........7 lb apprentice up might help his early speed

4  Craving Carats   blinkers off I believe to take back.......not a bad strategy with a drop down with some health issues....... jock can feel the horse out and if all is OK let him out in the stretch......hot rider/trainer combo with both trainer and rider in the lead for "titles" going into closing day

7  Let's Get Crackin

race 2    average clarity

1  Spy Girl   very strong effort/fig both pace and final time wise when last seen in mid September......1st on the sod but bred nicely for it........showed he can run well "fresh" in Sept.......likely ready to roll here as well

4  Forest Chatter   good MSW debut back in August running a 4 beaten length 4th in a solid field.......decent grass pedigree........work regiment since that August debut is solid.........Hall of Fame jock wisely sticks with the R Mandella runner

8  Act   both sprints down the SA hill turf course are par like efforts...........and has versatility as one effort was on the lead and the other effort was off the pace.....that gives Van Dyke options

2  Seattle Salt

race 3    average clarity

6  Prime Issue   very powerful adjusted for trouble/pace/position/bias figs in 2 of his last 3 races and the other race was still better than par a little.......so for me the only ? mark is the 1 1/2 marathon distance......so so pedigree for it but if Hollendorfer thinks he can get the distance that is good enough for little old me

2  Indian Nate   four year old is very good running off of short rest.....so with that in mind his last sure appears to be a turf tightener to muscle up and be at his best today 8 days later.....marathon distance is a ? mark

5  Perfect Set   likes Dmr and was just claimed by Art Sherman off of a decent race (which is somewhat hidden by running wide on a good inside day) and he sure is bred to appreciate the 12 furlongs

3  Mistaken Identity

race 4    average clarity

5  Lucky J Lane   very consistent grass horse and his best which is awfully powerful here was his lone race at today's 1 1/8th mile distance.....and he had a brutal trip in the race......did extremely well to only get beat by 3/4 of a length for the win

13  Tigah   nice move forward in last......claimed by Miller and Miller has had one nice meeting.........1st at 1 1/8th but the distance appears to be a good fit when examining his running lines

10  Christopher Street   likes the distance.........and his last was quite impressive in that he closed fast down the stretch and did it into a lackluster pace being set by the front runners.......runs well with ample time between races and gets it here

2  Number Five

race 5    average clarity

1  He's A Bling   Proctor still is looking for his 1st win at the meet but might get it here as his three year old gelding sure appears loose and loose with a capable bug boy (and his 5 lbs off) in the saddle.........TX bred but he has a decent pedigree to get 1 mile

6  Prospector Alley   only went for $60K at sale so the drop from MSW into mdn40K claiming doesn't bother me much......turf route fit.......only race on the AW which was run in Ireland seems OK........good rider/trainer

3  Yes Yes Yes   another dropping from MSW racing into mdn40K........seems dangerous and would have rated higher if Mike Smith didn't have such a dismal record on the horse......he never has hit the board in 5 mounts on the Eurton runner.......4 of 5 on the board with other jocks......horse & rider don't see eye to eye ???

4  Spring Action

Long-shot consideration:   8  Crane Lodge   big awakening in latest and totally hidden by a brutal trip.....shuffled 4  and ran very wide......and sat too far back off of a pedestrian pace........with all that being beaten by 7L was a good effort....and a good work regiment since......very dangerous

race 6    average clarity

2  Soul Driver   solid 1st on the grass win in last......checked early and ran a little wide and handled 1 1/8th in his 1st route.....not an easy task for a two year old.......2nd place finisher in his race came back to win impressively as our top pick yesterday.......solid series of 4 works should have this youngster well prepared for today's Grade 3 challenge

6  Daddy D T    wide trip in B C turf or might have upset the apple cart at 17 to 1.......decent a.m. work since........repeat of his last with a better trip and he will be very tough

9  Papacoolpapacool   Mullins trains our top pick and also trains this two year old gelding........and the gelding has fired in all three lifetime races and the works in preparation for today are most impressive........rather sure this fellow is ready for his lifetime best today.......difficult post but owns tactical speed for Talamo to work with

10  Conquest Typhoon

race 7    average clarity

3  Heir Of Storm   like the step up out of claiming and back in allowance racing.......blinkers back on so his exceptional early speed should return and if it does he's likely loose here and thus dangerous

8  Midnight Hawk   toss out return off the layoff race in last as he had a brutal trip from the get go and wisely wasn't pushed much by Smith.....continues to train sharply.....rebound seems likely......and if it occurs he should get a nice dangerous stalk position

2  Ferocious    on the right end of the learning curve........away since May but working like he is ready and he is proven "fresh"......dangerous improving Ellis runner

7  My Slew

Long-shot consideration:   1  Alberts Hope   no where in 2 dirt races at SA........3 very impressive races on AW surfaces two of which were at Del Mar.....so Puype might need this gelding to run big today and he will likely pull out all stops to have him at a peak as this is the last AW race for him in S Cal

race 8    above average clarity

3  La Tia   very solid lead type only invader draws Rosario so he must be feeling great......sure seems loose and only has one mile in which to cope with

5  Discreet Marq   ultra consistent grass runner seems likely to get a good stalk position behind our top pick in what likely will be a reasonable pace........like Rosario in to ride our top choice it also seems significant that Ortiz comes in to ride for Clement and company

1  Queen Of The Sand   last was sure decent but what we want and likely need is his effort two races back where he ran exceeding wide in a Grade 1 and was most impressive to only get beat by 4L

2  Strathnaver

race 9    average clarity

4  Firing Line   pounded by the bettors in MSW debut last and really ran a big effort breaking slow and running wide and still only got beat by1/2L........and 3 very impressive drills since.....seems very tough here if Smith breaks him cleanly today

10  Vicious   44 to 1 in MSW debut screams tune-up for this well bred colt (and solid sprint breeding)........nice work series since.....and whereas Harty isn't too hot with 1st timers he is quite dangerous with 2nd time starters

2  Clever Move  last appears to be a muscle him up turf tightening debut for this Grayson runner as the works since are solid......clever move........rather sure this youngster shows much more today

3  Blue Harbor

6  Anytime Anyplace

1  Run Henry Run
