Santa Anita for Thursday 15 January 2015

Average looking card at best this afternoon to start five straight days of racing through Monday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Easter Fever   best ever was her only race at SA at 6F.......6F today and sharp in the a.m........back to the same $50K claiming price that Miller snatched her for 6 races back in her mc debut

3  Shh She's Ours   with the change in trainers (following a successful MSW winning debut way back in July) has come a switch in jocks from Puglisi to obvious upgrade.........set a nasty pace in the July race and still hung on......bit surprised this filly is up for a tag........but then again.......Mr. Smith wants the mount

2  High Profit     on the improve with every start and his latest effort is disguised by a slightly tardy start and running wide on a day the 1 and 2 path was a highway

race 2    average clarity

5  Kantina Kowgirl    wide trip on a rail bias hides a strong wake up effort in her latest..........and a very good sign that Mr. Bejarano sticks with the Vann Belvoir runner

7  She's Discreet   cut back in distance sure appears to be a positive especially with a low percentage apprentice aboard........five year old mare is decent out of the gate and owns a little early gas........hang on 10 lbs bug girl and you might get win number two

8  Midnight Dime   improving one small step at a time.......seems to be running into shape and if that is true she likely fits on today's drop into bottom level maiden claiming

3  L X Sunrise

race 3    average clarity

6  Stormy Liberal   by far the most proven grass runner in the field and a major league rider upgrade especially for a race down the hill.....and the colt is one for one on the hill

7  Diamond Majesty   this fellow is also one for one down the hill and he ran the race off of 4 1/2 month break..........only a 1 1/2 month break this time around........might be poised for better

3  Bench Warrant   solid efforts in all 3 lifetime races.......1st on the grass for today seems to be the question mark.........good on pop's side to handle the sod......not that great on ma's side to handle it.........might be a matter of how the genetic dominance falls

1  Jazzy Josh

race 4    below average clarity

2  Twenty Eleven   nice improvement first out following the Papaprodromou claim.....not only was the race run off of a 10 week layoff but it was run at twice the claiming price as her it seems like a good sign that his new trainer steps her up once again.........1st at a route but bred very well to handle the challenge .

1  Sidepocket Run   talk about an overdo drop into maiden claiming.........five year old mare often shows plenty of run but seems to find trouble her own trouble which has helped keep her out of the winners circle 18 times........drop into maiden claiming should really help......and 7 lbs less on her back today won't hurt either

6  Art of War   on the rebound and now drops.......hmmmmmmm..........last is very strong for today's level which makes me a touch leery of the drop into maiden claiming for the first time.........but............ if this filly is still in decent health I should have selected her on top

7  Sheza Dish

race 5   average clarity

5  Miss Ellany   made to order turf race for a speed turf horse and especially one that has won her last 3 when she was able to shake free and be loose on the lead......sure seems likely to be loose here

3  Fantastic Mizz   fairly consistent sort seems likely to sit in a nice stalk position in a race seemingly set for those close up early........should be a factor come crunch time

2  Love Blind   quite a few of her turf efforts fit number wise but selected as 3rd choice mainly because the pace scenario doesn't exactly fit her late running style

7  Lady Asano

race 6    average clarity

2  Dreamy Kid   projecting that the pace will be fairly hot for this route affair and if it is it can play into the hands of this deep closer running first time following the Bob Hess claim.......her last fits and it is somewhat hidden by running a bit wide on a strong inside day at Lrc on 18 December

5  American Act   long overdo drop to a level this win-less to 2014/15 six year old should handle.......that is if it is not too late........seems like a good sign that regular rider Garcia gets back aboard after not riding him in his last

4  Caramuru   last race and win was set up nicely for his off pace style with a lively pace up front........again he seemingly faces plenty of speed and if they knocks heads he will benefit like last outing from a lively pace

7  Take a Risk

race 7    average clarity

6  Luckbox Sam   ultra consistent since the blinkers became part of the arsenal for this Avila five year old gelding........and his last two efforts run are awfully strong and somewhat disguised

1  Lucky J Lane   gelding seems to find trouble........but......retains Bejarno and draws a good post........won his only race at one mile on the sod.......and he is 4 for 5 1st or 2nd overall on the green carpet despite some tough journeys

2  Synnin   two for two on the grass and both races saw Solis in the saddle........Solis remains aboard today for this Zucker runner who has made two consecutive solid 2nd turn moves since switching to the green carpet

7  Lucky Views

race 8    below average clarity

10  Matty's Tribute   tepid top pick owns the best early gas in the field especially if he repeats his latest......... and I doubt this time he will have to duel early like he did in her last

5  My Ole Bud   Mike Machowsky 1ster has put in copious furlongs of work for his maiden debut hinting he is meant and ready for his beginning effort into the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing

4  Pocketball   stepped up into MSW racing in his last and ran a decent 2nd and now pulls back into a maiden claimer........albeit a high priced one.........makes me only slightly leery..........but......... leery enough to place him as my 3rd selection

1  Magic Taste

2  Unusually Big

6  Pure Thunder
