Santa Anita for Friday 16 January 2015

Seemingly a good card this afternoon. Definitely more interesting than yesterday. Let's call it a 7 on the 1 to 10 scale.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Magna Warrior   powerful win in last.........so much so that if he duplicates it here he should win.........but..........I am slightly leery that he exited the stout effort in good shape..........seems like a 50/50 proposition

6  Northern Contract   very solid and consistent at 5 1/2 or 6 furlongs........5 1/2F today (2 for 3).........T C Baze/ Diodoro have won 4 of their last 6 as a combination......invades from Tup where he won the last two times he was up for a $12,500 tag like today

1  Mr. Discipline   seems most likely to get the lead and that is often a dangerous proposition not only at 5 1/2F but also with Maldonado as the rider

race 2    above average clarity

5  Fascinating   consistent sort especially since the blinkers were added two races back.........and she sure appears to be the controlling speed in this affair

1  Gracie Ragazza    appreciates 6 weeks or more between starts and this go around the connections show patience and give it to her.........3 for 5 on conventional dirt...........0 for 3 on the AW...........sharp in the a.m............seems very likely to make a good account of herself this afternoon

3  Swiss Lake Yodeler   that classic cop-out in your daily newspaper......."best of the rest" ..........applies here

race 3    average clarity

7  Moving Desert    seems to be on a rebound of sorts........and.......owns some strong back numbers/efforts run in 2013........turf route to turf sprint is usually a good maneuver in a race down the majestic SA hill

1  Radiant Journey   done little wrong in two lifetime starts (2 1 1 0) one on the AW and one on the conventional dirt.........1st on the lawn but bred fairly well for it and it is seems like a good sign she has already handled 2 different surfaces

8  Fast Magoo   trainer has been cold the last couple of months but the works for this filly are hot.......Cerin did win a race yesterday and might continue to jump start things here with this laid up filly who has been competitive to some degree in all of her 6 lifetime starts

6  Anniversary Kitty

race 4    average clarity

5  Blooming Hannah   after a nice 2nd in her 2nd lifetime start at today's mc 75K level she stepped up into MSW racing and caught a tough field......so.......back where she fits much better.........and she shows a solid series of 4 drills spaced 7 days apart........a good sign she has stayed in good shape and likely will make a good account of herself today

4  Sound City    decent MSW debut for this Baltas runner yet she drops into maiden claiming........albeit high priced maiden claiming.......drop makes sense to me as she only went for $8K at sale

1  Beth's Bling   showed life in her MSW debut and the race has produced two next out winners......and Kathy Walsh is 3 for her last 9 MSW to maiden claiming and 4 others were able to hit the board.......that suggests it's highly likely that this filly is a "very live" precipitant this afternoon

race 5   average clarity

4  Polytechnician   GG invader ran some very strong one mile grass races last year at Santa Anita.........sharp trainer with grass runners in Gil Matos and he doesn't ship many so I imagine this nine year old has remained sharp following a couple of races versus a little to tough

1  Tigah   very consistent on the grass at mile.........nice post.........seems like a good move by Palma to leave Victor Espinoza aboard following his claim off of Peter Miller

2  Press Baron   six year old gelding seems at his best when Bejarano is aboard his back.....and Bejarano/Baltas have been a hot commodity the last couple of months having popped for 5 wins in their last 9 starts as a team

6  Horizontalyspeakin

Long-shot consideration:  7  Somethings Unusual   OK turf miler just ran his best ever down the SA hill grass course off of a year layoff and the effort is hidden by a 5 wide trip.........might feel real sharp for today's one mile turf affair

race 6    average clarity

3  Arlington House   on the improve with every start and his last improvement is hidden quite a bit........good sign Bonde steps him up a notch.......and......it's also a good sign Bejarano and his agent want the mount

7  Saint Dermot   Michael McCarthy is dangerous trainer 2nd out after a layoff which is the case here......combine that with the usually dangerous drop from MSW racing to maiden claiming.........and you likely have a solid contender

6  Kibou   very logical drop for this five year old maiden as he had one start in 2013 and one start in 2014.....and.....he didn't show much in either start.......the work series in preparation for start number 3 is solid ..........might a player for the 1st time versus softer today

5  Big Gregg

race 7    average clarity

6  Bobbi Grace   could have been 2 for 2 in the USA with better trips......and she crushed the boys at 6F on the sod in a race in Ireland last July.....that bodes very well for her chances in her 1st down the SA hill

10 Pankhurst   set a nasty pace in her 1st ever on the sod in a one mile affair.......these kind cutting back to 6 1/2 down the hill often do quite well in their next start..........on or near the lead

5  Sea Mona   Sadler is often at his best 2nd out after taking over the training duties of a given horse and that is the case here........1st down the SA hill grass course but her route turf running lines suggest she will appreciate the hill

2  Into Oblivion

race 8    average clarity

9  Wabel   impressive in both lifetime races...........1st at a route but bred well to appreciate one........and he sure has plenty of early gas to take control early........Baffert has been kind of cold but you know he won't stay that way very long

1  Cyrus Alexander   colt sure has been eating up some cash (at least on the win end of things) as he has gone off favorite in all 3 lifetime starts......in his supporters defense he could have graduated in his last with less of a wide trip......should be a major player once again but buyer beware as his fan club will likely be a force at the windows once again

4  Malibu Wood   solid forward move in his last his 2nd lifetime start and 1st on conventional dirt........his adjusted for trouble "Santucci" fig was better than par..........1st long for start number 3..........his pedigree is good to handle the new challenge of two turns

10  Selection

3  Blue Harbor

8  Nob Hill
