Santa Anita for Sunday 18 January 2015

Only one morning line favorite as our top selection today that being in the last race. Remember there is racing tomorrow.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

7  Seek A Star   cut back in distance should help this filly finish up well today and that appears to be a good thing in this field that seems rather weak

3  Spy Girl   seems like the best early gas in the field and if the jock keeps the fractions reasonable she might last the 6 1/2F

4  Tale Of Papa Nick   not my favorite jock with a 1st timer is aboard but this Richard Baltas MSW debut runner seems cranked up and ready to roll........come on Antongeorgi

5  Jean Edward

race 2    average clarity

1  Wild In The Saddle   laid up since 7 Sept but returns with a rider upgrade and sure is training as if she is fully fit for her return to the race wars.........last win came fresh off of the bench just like today

3  Wasted At Midnight   jock takes over two Baffert runners and Bob B is his meal ticket to say the least...........handles the track and might be best at 6 1/2 panels

6  Kool Kat   decent running off of short rest which is the case today......and short rest off of a turf route might be an especially good scenario for today's sprint on the dirt

race 3    average clarity

3  Gallant Charm   best routing on conventional dirt and takes a small drop.....race 3 back which was on the dirt at SA is quite strong and was run turf to dirt......turf race in last

1  Mahalo Arturo   sprinter steps up in claiming 1st out following the Aguirre claim and attempts a route.......owns some significant early speed but still might need to shake free of a few others in this race or take back as he did 3 races back......last race fig/effort is solid but he needs to prove he can run long

8  Matzoh Ball Magic   last two efforts fit fine when you adjust your thinking for the trouble and pace this gelding encountered in his last two (7 or 8L in both).......win-less jockey needs to be a bit more clever

6  Thesheetsguy

race 4    average clarity

2  Coded Message   like this pattern for a mc 1ster: flash some fast works and then build some foundation with some slow 6F drills........showed she has ability........then....... build her up with some less than exciting longer drills to keep the claiming vultures at bay

7  Holy Ascension   trainers cold......riders cold........but the filly does seem to be improving and her recent bullet 3F work hints she might be up for her very best

14 AE  She Got Away   bad trips in all three lifetime races.......ironically my Santucci adjusted for trouble figs  all worked out to be par efforts and par looks good here provided her new jock gives her a cleaner trip

5  Big Wave Betty

6  Thingy

race 5   average clarity

4  May B   very solid 1st on the SA dirt in last.....wide up on a decent pace and still drew off in the stretch......bullet work since.......seems poised for as good a run as his last and May B better

2  Door's Open   in decent form and now he gets to race on his favorite surface (3 wins in 6 starts at SA) and maybe his best distance (6 2 2 0)

3  Kafister   good sign top gun Bejarano sticks around off of this gelding's 1st time off of the board in six SA starts effort.........back in short rest for today and his history running off of short rest is good

7  Louden's Grey

race 6    average clarity

5  Mad Melinda   debut was unimpressive but the route grass race sure appears to have muscled this filly up because her work regiment since is vastly improved.........rather sure more horse today.......to what degree is the ? mark

1  Charming Starlet   best ever was her lone turf route.....and today she gets a better grass jock aboard than the rider who was up that day........good post.......decent drills at GG.......should be a player here

2  Versatility   first timer has good enough drills to be a factor in her MSW debut........but maybe more importantly draws Stevens to ride........likely has some ability and if she doesn't show it today we will see it down the road

8  Onedewoman

race 7    average clarity

4  Clem Juice   bet hard in both lifetime starts.....nice wake in last with the blinkers put on.........solid drills since......same or better is likely today if she can manage one more furlong.......good trainer/rider team

3  Take Back Spring   wide trip in last hides things a bit.....and I like that this filly is not up for a tag today hinting she might be on a rebound of sorts

9  Racing For Chasen   seems like a decent claim of an improving horse by Alfredo Marquez.......good sign that he gets Desormeaux to stay on the filly as he has ridden her for all 4 of her lifetime starts to date

2  Natalie's Wonder

race 8    average clarity

5  Lady Of Gold   poor trips in last 3 or could have won anyone of those races.........race two back at only one furlong less was especially strong hinting 1 1/2 miles will be to her liking

1  Scooter Bird   screaming out for 1 1/2 miles or further........very impressive in her lone race at 1 1/2 miles as she won for fun and did it from far back in an affair with a lackluster pace (had the one post that day as well)

3  Shesheisnot   controlling speed in this affair and that is a dangerous proposition with Bejarano up

2  Kitten's Point

race 9    average clarity

11  Practical   best ever and fits big here was run fresh off of the bench last year in March on a drop......fresh off the bench once again today and drops (even more)...........same effort (maybe even 85%) as last year's race should get him to circle of joy

3  Warren's Sunny Boy   rider upgrade for today and showing more in the a.m. this go around......seems likely in for a forward move to some degree.........should be a factor late

9  Military Justice   1st timer sure appears to be training well enough at Bsr to be ready to roll in his debut.......mom has tossed one winner from one starter and that runner was also a Stakes winner

5  Indian Monkey

8  Senor Pegasus

4  Chapo
