Santa Anita for Thursday 5 February 2015

OK card at Santa Anita this afternoon. Let's call it a 6.5 on the 1 to 10 scale of things.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Warren's Purrfect   3 of her last 4 races sure look solid fig/effort wise versus this soft looking group.......trainer has been kind of cold but might jump start things here

5  Sweet Taboo   MSW debut 2 back at Lrc is better than appears in print.......MSW turf route in last looks like nothing more than an endurance building public work-out.........to..........drop and go fit enough to handle today's bottom level route dirt maiden claimer

7  Private Marina  seems to own the best early gas in this affair and that is often a dangerous thing in these bottom level maiden claiming route races

2  Hot and Pleasing

race 2    above average clarity

3  Pat the Bear   likely a bad top pick if this three year old only loves the slop as his last on it is very strong..............good final time and he set a very powerful set of fractions.........see ya if he produces 85 % (or more) of his last........has the potential to be a very good claim by Miller

5  Great Lou  2 for 2 lifetime sprinting and won the races by 4 1/2 lengths at SA & 5 1/4 lengths at Dmr........and today we get a rider upgrade......such a deal

4  Pocketball   fell off some in last effort/fig wise but still managed to win.......fits OK if he rebounds a little and/or he sits behind our top two picks and they knock heads with one another

race 3    average clarity

3  Hoop of Colour    GB invader is proven at the 1 1/4 distance..........trainer is a stellar 29% with his last 70 shippers from overseas.......and the works hint this filly is ready to roll

2  Kadesha   only race of late that is impressive is her 1 3/8th's mile grass effort 2 back.....that effort bodes well for today's 1 1/4 grass affair........good trainer/rider combo in Hess/Desormeaux

7  Hug and a Kiss   races in France run last Spring & Summer sure would make her tough here.......been away since July but Simon Callaghan has his new shooter training fairly well with a prolonged series of weekly drills........filly ran well fresh in both 2013 and 2014

1  Diaminda

race 4    average clarity

5  Vow Me Over   4 of 5 career races (albeit on the turf and synthetic) fit solidly here..........filly has been based at SA so she is likely well tuned to handle it's conventional dirt surface..........good sign the meets top gun sticks with the Glatt runner

2  Oui Bear   broke slow and ran a little wide in MSW debut which was run at SA on the grass at today's distance.....the race was needed and she drops a little......R Mandella is 7 of his last 21 MSW to maiden claiming.............filly seems dangerous

4  Sweet Renata   bet very hard in MSW debut (4-5) and didn't show much........maybe blinkers on for today will help........deserves another chance?

3  Stella Moon

race 5   average clarity

6  Doctor Glynis   2 of 3 lifetime races down the Santa Anita hill turf course fit well here including her latest where she sat fairly close to a brutal pace and still was able to snatch 2nd in a decent time for the level for the given day........stays at the $25K level and retains Bejarano

8  Sprague River   decent wake-up effort in her latest in a sprint at GG........gets a rider upgrade for today.........only race on the SA hill wasn't bad and it was against much tougher than she faces today

2  Loan Savant   dropped down in last and the effort doesn't look so good at 1st glance.......but the filly was caught wide and more importantly sat too far off of a lackluster pace to be able to close well in the stretch.......drops again.......only race down the SA hill is OK

1  Acategoryfivestorm

race 6    average clarity

10  Guy Code   2 wins and a close 2nd in three races since the blinkers were removed........all three races are better than par for today's level..........Espinoza is 2 for 2 on the three year old gelding and wisely sticks with the youngster today

8  Run Like a Million   impressive 5 1/2L wining MSW debut at GG......colt was able to work 10 days after his debut and put in a total of 4 drills since his debut which was run just 5 1/2 weeks ago......that hint's the Hollendorfer runner exited his race in great condition.......seems like a ton if he handles the "dirt" as well as he did the AW

1  Big Swag   won for fun in his MSW debut run in late May......away since but he sure is working as if he is ready to roll "fresh" once again.......same trainer and same rider

9  Richard's Way

race 7    average clarity

NOTE:  AE no. 10 Joe's Blazing Aaron has a decent shot if he draws into the field

6  Sofast     shipped in from France in 2013 with some big credentials but was eased in a Grade 1.........off since but is working exceptional well........in fact the best works in many a moon for a Gary Mandella runner.......almost all of her races in France fit solidly at today's  softer nw2 alw level

5  Talco   good efforts overseas but he didn't run in any Graded races in France........all 4 races in the U S of A were grade 1 or 2's (yikes)........sometimes it is one step at a time........finally the colt is put in an alw race where maybe the connections should have placed him in all along for a little red, white and blue confidence builder

7  Helm   seems best on the AW but his only two turn grass race is her best of 3 grass races and the effort is somewhat hidden by a wide trip........stout trainer & stout rider at the helm

4  Bailoutbobby

race 8    average clarity

6  Autumn Twilight   showed decent life in MSW debut at Golden Gate back in late December........and she sure is training as if the equipment change to blinkers on has made her significantly better......just popped a sizzling 58 flat bullet drill just one week ago and did it on the SA surface

2  Thermodynamics   so so run on the slop in last.....but of course you can overlook that........MSW debut 2 back  on a fast track was impressive and hidden by a green trip.......Gary ageless Stevens stays with the filly for a 3rd straight race

4  Alwazabridesmaid   Hollendorfer 1st time starter has worked out of the gate 7 times.....either his new shooter has a problem with the gate or the fabulous trainer wants him fully ready to roll in his debut........we shall see

9  Medicine Butte

12  Lucy in Diamonds

10  Scuti de Patuti
