Santa Anita for Sunday 8 February 2015

Average card this afternoon. Be back with you on Thursday for the start of 5 consecutive days of racing.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Blooming Hannah   2 of her last 3 races are better than par for today's lower level.......trainer has been chilly so it might be time to get into drop mode

3  Summer Veil   MSW debut on the grass seems like nothing more than a leg her up grass tightener to drop and go a little muscled up as sometimes only the grass can do........and.........Puype is quite dangerous MSW to mc

6  Herecomescat   sure like the tightly spaced drills (every 6 days) for a Proctor 1st timer.......Proctor laid low for quite some time but his stock is firing for the most part now

4  Queen Cactus

race 2    below average clarity

4  Camryn Kate   good rider/trainer combo........six year old mare appreciates sitting in the stalk position and she seems likely to get that position here

2  Royal Temptress   strong late runner has a bit of a challenge here in that outside of our 3rd choice there isn't much speed in this race.......still she seems dangerous even if a moderate pace develops and of course very dangerous if more pace occurs than I anticipate

1  Mark of a Gem    a.m. work for this (off since July) five year old hints she is ready and if she is she sure seems like the lone speed here......and she handles the unique SA hill grass course quite well

3  Onna Bugeisa

race 3    above average clarity

5  Never Ends   trainer has been firing on all cylinders........debut for this filly was very solid running 2nd in a fast heat with big gaps behind her supporting the time/effort......same fits......more would only be icing on the already sweet cake

8  Wild At Heart   wide sprint closers did awfully well yesterday and this R Mandelle 2nd time starter sure would benefit from a similar outside condition .......MSW debut was good and with a gap of 9L behind her 2nd place finish to 3rd

6  By The Shore   Tom Proctor 1st time starter has flashed some nice drills including some fast 3F works that hint she has some early gas.......and the 4 gate works suggest the stout conditioner means business in this youngster's debut

2  Miss Centerfold

race 4    average clarity

5  Radiant Journey   done little wrong in 3 lifetime starts and did it on 3 different surfaces......so.....I doubt his 1st on the SA dirt will be a hindrance.......can get a nice outside stalk position which has been the place to be the last couple of days

3  Yana   likes SA.......likes 6F..........recent works are improved.....might have legged up on the slop off of a runway win......slop can be detrimental to a horse but sometimes it is similar to the grass in the way it can muscle up a runner

4  Twelve Folds   likes 6 to 8 weeks between starts and gets it........capable of big things when she brings her "A game"........recent a.m. work and the aforementioned time interval hint that she might bring her A game

8  Zulu's Petals

race 5   average clarity

5  Conquest Artura   maiden was only beaten by 2 1/4L in a Grade 3......she is back in a MSW affair today and with a very fine work tab including a best of 38 bullet 5/8ths work to finish things up

2  Scandal   away 2 months but she is working as if R Mandella has her meant and ready following a little re-freshening.......impressive close from too far off a slow pace in her latest......dangerous late runner

3  Redheads Rule   decent turf sprint down the hill in her last which was her 2nd lifetime start.......bred well to get the distance and her trainer Peter Miller has been rather hot

12  Vendita

13  AE Autumn Flower

race 6    average clarity

5  Quality Plan   all 3 lifetime sprints fit well at today's lower level and his last at SA is disguised by a bad trip......broke slightly slow - checked a couple - ran wide on an inside biased day........gelded since......if the surgery settles this fellow down and he puts in the same effort as his last he........will......be......tough

2  Casual Attire   away 17 months off of a promising 2 race career and shows up in a new barn........doubt this is a tune-up or Peter Miller would have put this gelding in a non-claiming affair and not trained him so hard.......1st on conventional dirt but bred OK for it

8  Night Badger   lifetime best and a good fit here was his run 3rd out following a layoff........and that is the scenario here........jock could use a win

1  Rambling House

race 7    average clarity

10  Sir Barclay   seems like a good snatch at the claiming box by Hess.......sure like the work tab since the claim and the fact that Hess uses his go to guy in Desormeaux.......rather sure the trainer has a good handle on his new shooter

6  Rolo Tamaci   will likely need his lifetime best in start no. 3 today.......and I believe he will provide it as he appears to be developing nicely.......and then there is that deadly combo of Bejarano/Baltas

2  I B Mike   seems like an intelligent claim by Mark Glatt as this GG runner is 3 for 3 on conventional dirt surfaces.......and he just popped arguably his best ever on an AW surface

8  Frensham

race 8    average clarity

6  Global Hottie   very solid state-bred filly has 4 wins and a 2nd in 6 lifetime starts including a strong win on the AW at Bhp......and most that like the Bhp AW take to the sod.......and the pedigree for this Baffert filly is very good for the turf

5  Fanticola     another very consistent runner who has never missed the board in 8 lifetime grass races including 3 down the hill......highly likely to give a good account of herself once again this afternoon

3  Sky Treasure   deep closer has the right jock for the job in Nakatani who seems best riding off pace grass runners.......last (and which was down the hill) fits fine

9  Birdlover

race 9    below average clarity

4  This Time I Win   nice forward move in 2nd lifetime race......and.........his off pace style seems like a good fit versus a field that should yield a strong set of fractions

1  Molten Image   been away one week short of 2 years but his works over at LA suggest he is returning as good as new and he crushed his competition in his only lifetime race

8  Crimson Giant   vaulted forward in a shocker in his last.......might "bounce" badly but if he doesn't he can win this affair and win at a decent price........low percentage rider but he rides this fellow very well usually

7  Brother Soldier

6  Coolington

3 Head South
