Santa Anita for Friday 20 February 2015

If races 4, 6, 7, & 8 (part of the pick six sequence) on the card are dominated by Cassidy or Hollendorfer runners it will be alright with yours truly as Cassidy is our top pick twice and 2nd pick once while Hollendorfer is our top pick twice and 3rd pick once.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Selection   trainer is off to a good start at the SA meeting and the drop out of MSW racing makes sense as this colt has only earned "chump change" ($12K) in 6 starts......race 2 back would crush these

5  A Colt Following   dueled on a dull rail in latest.....did well to hang on for third.......hasn't missed a beat in the a.m. since.......same or more seems likely this afternoon

3  Unusually Big   another Proctor (trains our top choice) runner with at shot to graduate......very tightly spaced a.m. work (5 works in 21 days) might have this gelding very muscled up for his 1st at a route which he is bred to handle OK

7  Sterling Wager

race 2    average clarity

5  Appealing Tale   crushed his foes the last two times this Peter Miller charge ran in alw races.........that's the case today for this gelding who sure has been facing better of late

2  Fly Lexis Fly   another Miller entry here........seems best on conventional dirt even though he does have something to prove on SA dirt.......obvious sprint turf tightener in layoff run in last......solid mile drill since.......all set for this afternoon to handle one mile

1  Magic Mark   no shot routing on the sod in last as he dueled in one nasty set of fractions.........4 for 6 on the SA main track and just popped a solid 2nd best of 20 6F work.......danger city

race 3    above average clarity

3  Cacica   toss out last two endeavors (nasty pace in sprint and doesn't care for route racing)........race 3 back down the majestic SA hill grass course is solid.......and today we get a significant rider upgrade.......Matt Chew is off to a good start at the meeting......seems like a major player

7  Majestic Minister   faced tougher in last in open $40K claiming to get eligible for this starter alw move......layoff last down the hill is decent........likely to move forward 2nd out after a layoff.......and back to Bejarano.......seems poised for best

4  Grey Girl Gone   laid off since June when she woke up with a solid race in her 2nd lifetime start.......but working as if she might be ready.........and she likely will take to the grass as two of her siblings won on the sod

6  Kantina Kowgirl

race 4    below average clarity

6  Miserable Blue   1st time starter seems well prepared to compete at a high level in her mc debut and if she is this appears to be a good spot as her competition is rider/trainer combo

3  Just Bookin   improved sort and her last move forward is somewhat disguised.......better ride by the struggling apprentice combined with the same effort as her latest and she might be the one to beat

4  Fab Four Forever   not too hot in layoff last but her debut back in June fits and is hidden by a bad trip........deserves another shot 2nd out after the layoff

2  Office Chatter

Long-shot consideration:   7  May I Leave   new trainer takes over this filly who has shown little in 2 lifetime starts.......and her new conditioner Jorge Periban has gotten her to work well at Bsr........especially the 6F 2 turn work on Feb 2nd at Bsr in 113:3

race 5   below average clarity

7  Something Unusual   takes a logical drop in claiming ( hasn't won since June of 2013) following 2 efforts that fit fine here.....and his trainer is decent 3rd out after layoffs which is the case today

1  Sizzlin' Joe   seems to be in good form right now and his recent a.m. work suggests he has held it

2  Tigah   a ton here if I am wrong in my assessment..........seems very alarming that Palma and company drop back to $32K claiming following a $50K win 1st out after their claim.......and he has only worked his new shooter once in 5 weeks since his win and the drill is dull.....we shall see

5  Compari

race 6    above average clarity

7  Taste Like Candy   Hollendorfer filly faces easier today and especially easier than she faced in her two lifetime one mile dirt races......and her 2nd place finish in her last was flattered when the winner of the race came back to win a Grade 2 in her next

1  Full Ransom   impressive layoff sprint run in latest which was her 1st ever on the real dirt.......loves the one mile distance on the mile on the dirt will likely be right up her rider/trainer combo

6  Magnificent Shirl   another Hollendorfer entry.........who runs on conventional dirt for the 1st time in her life........not impossible in this spot if she handles so pedigree for it

2  Wild In The Saddle

race 7    average clarity

1  Buymeabond   historically speaking back in short rest has been a plus for this five year old gelding......short rest today and drops back in claiming following a protected race......5 for 12 at the distance.....seems well meant this afternoon

7  Gab Power   seven year old has rebounded in form nicely and he seemingly just worked his best drill in many a moon (46:4 bullet).......late runner might sit closer off of that speed drill.....and that seems significant in this spot which likely will yield a slow pace up front.......and then there is that switch to Mr Bejarano

5  Ice Cream Truck   finally gets back to a one mile grass race where he is 1 for 1.........0 for 6 at other turf's not rocket science

8  Sinfully

race 8    average clarity

1  Fabulous Fit   nothing special about the fig earned in was an easy 5L win......and.......often horses coming off of such a stress free effort often move forward in their next start........recent near bullet 5F work for this mare supports the notion

9  Peppy Bolly   poor trip in last hides a forward move on the step up in claiming.......and another step up the claiming ladder for today says she exited the race in good shape......Carava runner seems to be on a rebound of sorts

5  Faith Proof   here is the comment for her last start where we selected her as our tepid 3rd choice as the odds on favorite and she ran poorly: obviously a ton here if she doesn't "blow a gasket"...........she keeps being suspiciously put up for sale at a bargain price and crushing her foes..........seems like a 60/40 proposition that she has another solid effort left in I am a little paranoid once more selecting her 3rd...... mostly because Miller has gotten her to work OK since up odds on failure
