Santa Anita for Sunday 22 February 2015

Card seems OK for today especially if the dirt racing surface remains the same. Be back at it on Thursday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Mosso   been in every other mode and the race 2 back fits.......quite solid lately in the a.m. which supports the notion of a rebound for today

4  Echo Zulu    way in over his head in last trying the turf for the 1st time following the claim......back where belongs......would have been top choice if speed types weren't falling apart in the stretch so much these days at SA

5  W. Giles   claimed for 20K.......in for 14K.......fits if there is some "horse left"........has worked twice over the 4 weeks since the claim......60/40 that he is healthy enough to compete at a high level here

Long-shot consideration:  1 Oh Brother Go   best two lifetime races in his 11 race career were the only 2 races he ran with Periban as the trainer......back to Periban today and the drills at Bsr hint he definitely has the trump card for this fellow

race 2    above average clarity

5  Fiftyshadesoffun   decent layoff run in last (sprinting) her 2nd lifetime start and 1st for Puype.......sure seems set up for today's route race which she is bred to handle

1  Bernier   like so many trainers Blake Heap is dangerous sprint - sprint - route........and that is the scenario here for this runner's 3rd lifetime race.......pedigree is fine to handle the two turns

8  Private Marina   not impossible if the fronts are on but her chances sure seem enhanced if they are off as she ran without them for the 1st time ever in her latest and she moved forward quite a bit......get those binoculars out for the post parade

4  Grandma Connie

race 3    below average clarity

6  Larocco   back to Periban who has gotten the most out of this filly and he wisely takes the blinkers off as her races with them on are dismal.........impressive 6F (two turn work) at Bsr on 2 Feb (1:12:1)

4  She's Flush   late running filly should love the way the track at SA is playing if of course it doesn't change today........sure hope it doesn't as I am handicapping (for the most part) for it to remain the same

3  A. P. Pepper   doesn't care for the sod much.....so with that in mind her last sure appears to be a turf tightener for day's dirt race......seems to fire to some degree when placed in sprints

race 4    average clarity

8  War Destiny   strong forward move in last his 2nd lifetime start......sharp series of 5 works since.......Sadler is all business today for the 1st on the sod for this gelding......five year old owns a solid pedigree for it

3  Barbary Coast   best set of drills for a Robert Hess 1st time starter in many many a moon......believe this colt can run some (at least on the dirt) and hopefully he will take to the sod.......average pedigree for it

6  Dead Easy   five year old gelding seems best with 4 or 5 weeks between races and gets it today......and......his latest off of 8 weeks isn't too shabby.......seems poised for top effort today

7  Uptown Rythem

race 5   average clarity

8  Z Besha    Baffert 2nd time starter was absolutely full of run in the late stages of his MSW debut.......and.........he went off 14 to 1 in a 7 horse field field.........so.......it is highly likely he surprised Baffert and company to some degree.......should be fully fit for today

6  Air Pocket   nicely bred Bob Baffert 1st time starter seems cranked up and ready to roll for his MSW debut.........what's new?

1  Ketos   very sharp set of drills for this Sadler 1st time starter strongly hints he is meant and ready.......but......he needs to overcome a tough post in which to start for a debuting youngster

3  Win The Space

race 6    average clarity

2  Papacoolpapacool    switches from a cold trainer in Mullins to a hot one in D'Amato.......and the drills hint the change in conditioners has improved this three year old gelding who is 1 for 1 at SA on the turf (and at today's distance of one mile)

3  Daddy D T   all three lifetime mile grass races fit very well here......hasn't gotten the best of trips in those races.........new jock up for today might help......but........ the trainer/rider are a cold 1 of their last 18 as a team......if I knew this fellow was going to get a decent trip today he would easily have been top choice

8  Broughton Kitten   bad start and a wide 2nd turn hurt this colt's chances in his latest grass race which was run 2 back.......different jock today and Martin Garcia is riding quite well following a slow start at the SA meeting

6  Stormy Liberal

race 7    average clarity

1  Arlington House   on the improve with each and every race.....broke her maiden in her last (1st time Bejarano) winning going away at the wire in a route........very reassuring work tab since........same or better today

6  Follow Me Crew   might be a good claim as this youngster broke his maiden for fun with a 7L win.......1st at a route but bred well to handle one........seems early for a 3 yr old to face older at a route but his last is too strong to ignore.....and Gary Stevens is up for Alfredo Marquez......that sure seems significant

9  Gold Chaser   lone route race back in June is better than appears in print......might be sitting on a strong route dirt race coming off a solid turf sprint down the hill

5  Silent Ruler

Long-shot consideration:   2  Warren's T. Baze   both lifetime races on the dirt fit OK and his a.m. work since his last is improved and somewhat subtle in it's improvement

race 8    below average clarity

2  Winning Prize   proven fresh and working as if Drysdale has him ready.......and 2 for 2 when today's jock Bejarano has been aboard.......won quite easy in those two efforts to boot

3  U S Citizen   expensive claim by Miller and company of a sharp 6 yr. old gelding right now........might get a nice stalk or mid pack position behind a lively pace.......dangerous

4  Distinctiv Passion  best early speed on the grounds.........he will most likely be loose on the lead once again but be best rate some as 6 1/2 furlongs might be a little too far if he doesn't

7  Hey Dude

race 9    average clarity

6  Borealis Breeze   new trainer for today in Kitchingman.........three year old maiden is a 1st time gelding for today.......and........a recent bullet drill hints the operation did some good.......scratched out of a race yesterday for this spot

9  Bossmon   GG invader takes that ever dangerous drop from MSW to maiden claiming........very dangerous successful rider/trainer combo in T C Baze/Blaine Wright

8  Captain G   nice wake up in 2nd lifetime start and 1st at a route......and drops one level today.......would have been top pick if the bug boy wasn't only 1 for 32 for the SA meeting

4  Yoked

1  Chuck's Chuckle

2  Julia's Summer
