Decent looking card today to start one of the biggest race weeks of the year at Santa Anita

Best of luck as always!

race 1    above average clarity

2  Larry Birdstone   with the layoff one mile race under his belt this Philip D'Amato four year old gelding should primed to handle his drop into mid priced maiden claiming.......1st time blinkers as well today and the trainer 39% win with his last 18 "1st time blinkers"

6  Derby Glass   showed plenty of life on the SA dirt in his maiden 40K  debut two races back.........and then showed that he can handle two turns in a MSW grass race (which was likely over his head) in his 2nd lifetime race......back to mc40K (where he started) for 3rd lifetime start.......and Ellis is solid turf to dirt and 2nd time at a route

3  Bula Bula   drop from MSW racing to maiden claiming and..........a major league rider upgrade should really help this Marty Jones runner.......still we might need his effort two back which would likely get the job done here

7  Village Kitten

race 2    below average clarity

1  Cinematic Cat   tepid top choice in a difficult race to decipher........big wake up in last back to sprinting and with the blinkers off and the fronts on.........repeat of the effort with a slightly better trip and back to back wins might be in the cards

5  Flat Gone   likely will sit in the rear of the race once again and be in the mix late especially if the speedsters crank it up a bit early

2  Public Policy   last sure fits and decent a.m. work since.......but........I am a touch leery of his ability to get the extra 1/2 furlong without flattening out.......or.......I would have selected him higher

4  Watch It Buster

race 3    above average clarity

6  Wandering Heart   Donald Warren won with a turf route 5 yr old 1st timer (I believe as our 3rd choice) last week and the works were very similar to the works for this six yr old 1st timer..........and like the nice price winner last week this runner catches a soft looking bunch

1  Charming Starlet   made a breakthrough in her latest fig/effort wise running better than par........ albeit in a turf sprint........still has something to prove in a turf route......but......... if she can repeat her last in today's one mile turf race she might be the one to beat

3  High Intensity   nice forward move 1st time at a route (on the dirt) in last..........1st time on the sod but she owns a decent pedigree to handle the green carpet.....seems dangerous

5  Thermodynamics

race 4    average clarity

5  Preordained   we had this Jorge Periban runner as our top selection at 26 to 1 in his last and he could have won for fun but he had a painful trip by an ice cold apprentice.......new jock today but unfortunately this fellow won't be 27 to 1 this time......same effort with a decent trip and he should be tough

9  Moonlight Meeting   takes the ever dangerous drop from MSW racing to maiden claiming and as a 1st time gelding.......and I like that Kent Desormeaux lands here and that he accepted only one other mount on the card which was for his brother

8  El Monterey   last fits OK (not the best of trips) but what we really want is his mc debut effort (very bad trip) two races back.........and today we get a rider upgrade

3  Jacob's Bluebird

race 5   average clarity

1  Twentyfive to Life   feel strongly that this four year old filly has been pointed for today for if you plug her race into her work regiment you have this these work intervals starting on 28 Dec.:   7 days - 6 days -8 days -7 days -6 days -6 days and raced 6F-8 days-6 days-6 days = fit with racing experience and ready for what she is bred for

6  Doris Johnson   even effort in her last in her 1st effort on the grass.......and she did show that she moves just fine on the sod.......seems set 2nd out following the layoff to attempt a turf route which she owns an adequate pedigree to handle

4  Cee's Tizzy Belle   trainer is decent fresh and the horse is decent fresh......but the trainer sure has been in a prolonged slump......or.......would have rated higher than 3rd selection

7  Spanish Queen

race 6    average clarity

6  Grazen Sky   improving by leaps and bounds with each and every start.....last would be tough.....more would be icing on the already sweet cake

5  Comanche Ruler   predictably ran poorly at a  route but his breeding suggested it could be a problem.......back to a sprint today........strong sprint two back and well hidden by running a bit wide up near the front on a good rail day

1  Run Like a Million   not the best of starts in his last but what we want is his effort shown in his debut which was at GG two races back........and his recent a.m. prowess hints he can run just as well on the SA surface

8  Kluszewski

race 7    average clarity

6  Royal Temptress   here is the career for this four year old filly so far:  good race - bad race - good race - bad race - good race (and down the hill) - bad race - ??????

4  Heavens Stairway   back to T C Baze who is 2 for 2 on this Marty (cold) Jones five year old mare who owns 4 wins in 10 lifetime starts and all four wins are on the hill......that'll do

1  Mark of a Gem   blocked in the stretch or could have won this level on Feb 8th.......might be quite a bit left in the tank for today not being able to run fully down the stretch in her last.....we shall see

7  Magic Lily

race 8    average clarity

4  Time for Angie   very stout running on main track surfaces at 6 furlongs or less........can't be claimed in this spot so it is a great spot to be ready fresh off of the bench.......and then there is that plus of being a late runner in a field loaded with speed

6  In Dad's Honor   lone lifetime win came the only time in which this filly was up for a tag........up for a tag today and training as if the ever dangerous Ron Ellis has her ready to roll.......and then there is that plus of being a late runner in a field loaded with speed

13  Best By Far   beat the boys stepping up the ladder in two straight abbreviated sprint races at LA......and she has handled 6F in the past (6 1 2 0).......trainer Tom Bazley has a gaudy win percentage of 43%

12  Acategoryfivestorm

1  Twelve Folds

2  Mahalo Princess
