race 1    below average clarity

9  Sheer Talent   last might do the trick but if we get the effort displayed 3 races back he will be quite difficult to overcome

4  Take a Risk   last was impressive versus better and hidden by a trip that wasn't too hot.......broke tardy and checked hard on the 1st turn.....did well to only get beat by 5L......should be coming late

5  Tiz Futurity    not much has gone right for Pender and company with this runner  since they claimed this gelding 4 races back......but......they just got their new shooter to work an eye popping best of 90 5F bullet work......seems very dangerous

2  American Act

race 2    below average clarity

10  Tizapalooza   tepid top pick finally drops into maiden claiming following 4 consistent looking efforts that don't fit in MSW racing but do fit in this level of maiden claiming

5  Alfiero   loose on a dull rail with decent pace stopped this Ellis runner in his tracks in his debut........drops into softer today and would have been top choice if sharp trainer Ron Ellis wasn't 2 for his last 20 1st time in maiden claiming

6  Cat From Iraq   Art Sherman has a weak record with maiden claiming first timers but this gelding is training to well at LA to ignore

4  Imaginative

race 3    average clarity

3  Mighty Souper   like the Mark Casse youngsters that start their training elsewhere and are sent to him which is the case here.......displays strong work tab for a Casse 1st timer and sure is bred to take to the green carpet.......seems ready

4  Emyvale Court  solid debut down the hill and might not have been all that cranked up as she went off at odds of 22 to 1 for Tom Proctor........seems likely to show more today for the outstanding turf conditioner

7  Dad's Princess   doesn't seem to care for the SA dirt.....but sure has run strong efforts on the AW at Dmr........that and decent grass breeding hint at a big wake up this afternoon for this Cassidy three year old filly

8  By The Shore

race 4    average clarity

5  Never Ends   very power efforts/figs in both MSW starts.......and now we get a rider upgrade to the meetings top gun......that'll do..... as the Scottish caddies sarcastically like to say following a mediocre tee shot that is in play

7  Black Betsy   NY bred isn't training like one.........very impressive work regiment for this Richard Baltas 1st timer........might have be really good one......we shall see

9  Miss Centerfold    two 2nd place finishes in two lifetime races......been away since mid Nov but returns training better than ever.......likely needs more than she showed last Fall but she might give it

1  Sweet Promise

race 5    average clarity

3  Chasintheaces   ran a significant effort off of a layoff of 16 months last year..........away 9 months this time and training as if he is more than ready to do the same today........makes sense to be ready as racing seems to knock this fellow out and that it might be many months before he can run "big" again

8  May B   solid race 2 back.....needs a rebound to that effort..........recent a.m. prowess hints that we will see one

10  Pulling G's    two straight poor trips since arriving from NY where he displayed plenty of ability........switch in jocks to Espinoza who has won 3 of his last 6 riding for John Shirreffs

6  Cautious Giant

race 6    below average clarity

4  Circling   better than these if this laid up IRE invader is ready for Drysdale.........and the works hint she does Mike Smith and his agent wanting the mount

1  Hug And A Kiss   toss out her last which was her 1st in the good old U S of A as she sat near the rear in a pace-less affair and did well to close some and beat 1/2 the field......should be a major player today if she gets a more honest pace up front

7  Zanbo   most likely to get the lead (and can stalk and win as well) and with Bejarano at the controls.......that is a scary proposition

5  Dakota Kid

Long-shot consideration:   8  Jade With Envy   just claimed by Baltas and company and he wisely sends this mare "long" as her route races (turf & AW) are quite good.......and Baltas usually gets the most out of route runners

race 7    above average clarity

3  Dortmund   just ran a better effort/number than California Chrome or Shared Belief ran last winter in their three year old year and they were easily my top two choices to win the Kentucky Derby at that time......just a worked a very reassuring seven panels.....seems like a ton if he can find at least 85 to 90% of his last

2  Ocho Ocho Ocho   colt has done little wrong in three lifetime races........his 114:2 as a two year old at SA is most impressive.......needs best ever today and maybe our top choice not to be at his best......then.....he might upset the apple cart

6  Prospect Park   on the improve with every start especially since the blinkers were taken off.......colt hasn't raced since the 28th of Dec. but he has shown plenty in the a.m.......believe he fires his best ever what degree is the ? mark

7  Bolo

race 8    average clarity

4  Maybellene   sure like the turf pedigree for this Baffert three year old filly.......turf isn't Bob's forte but he sure got this filly to work solidly on the grass.......and........she has been able to run 3rd in a Grade 1 on the dirt......seems like she can be in the hunt from the get go and with Bejarano in the irons

2  She's A Big Winner   on the improve with every start.....solid win in 1:12:2 down the hill in on any day for a three year old filly in Feb.........1st at a route but bred fine to handle one........and she is a smooth looking runner to boot which should help her negotiate the two turns

5  Curlin's Fox   went off 3 to 5 in MSW debut (which was down the hill) and ran like one winning despite being shuffled back a length and running way too wide on the turn......continues to train like a very nice filly........and owns a very solid route pedigree

8  Bobbie Grace

race 9    average clarity

4  Conquest Two Step   absolutely appears to love the SA dirt........excellent shot to take this affair if two consecutive stellar efforts hasn't knocked him out any

1  Chitu   runs best with ample time off between starts and Baffert shows patience and gives it to him........needs a great ride from a difficult post at 7F......might be the one to beat if he gets it from Martin Garcia

3  Majestic City   Ron Ellis can be a "giant killer" at times and he sure has this laid up six year training as if he is ready........the stout trainer might be trying to make his two turn route runner a one turn sprinter which seems like a good idea if that is the case as this fellow flattens out too much when racing further than one mile

7  Wild Dude

race 10    above average clarity

(top 3 our a combined 17 for 24 at the distance)

8  Summer Front   5 for 8 at the distance and loves the very firm turf that S Cal racing has to offer.......and very impressive last Nov in the B C One Mile Turf.....ships in for Clement off of some ultra impressive work-outs....rather sure he will fire a big effort

3  Winning Prize    5 for 7 at the distance.....seems highly likely to get a ground saving trip most likely stalking the 4 horse.....back to Bejarano who is two for two on this stout six year old

7  Mega Heat   deservedly steps up as he is 7 for 9 at the distance and tries hard every time......Nakatani fits him well.......and the trainer is having his best meeting in quite some time

11  Za Approval

race 11    above average clarity

5  Shared Belief   could have been 11 for 11 if not for being badly roughed up in the B C Classic last Fall.....this Big Cap edition came up weak because few wanted to face this monster........will have to get a roughed up again or go bad in the race not to be very formidable here

4  Dynamic Sky   might be better on the AW/dirt than the grass and finally gets off of the green stuff......if that is so he should come flying in the late stages

13  Hard Aces   seems like the 'now" horse coming off of a strong dirt race at FG....and the works since indicate he has held form and might even be up to his best ever today

11  Bronzo

3  Sr. Quisqueyano
