race 1    average clarity

2  Gladding   two strong points here: Sadler wanted this eight year old back in his barn.......and......the gelding isn't eligible to be are quite impressive........believe his legs feel good and Sadler has him ready to take advantage of the non-claiming situation

5  Carlot Cowboy   sharp recent 4F work especially for a guy like Spawr who doesn't push his stock that hard.......seems likely to get a nice mid pack position in race where the pace should be lively........Spawr is often at his best 3rd out after a layoff which is the case here

4  Thesheetsguy   3 for 4 in route races with today's rider Rafael Bejarano aboard and all of those races fit fine at today's level

race 2    average clarity

4  Senor Rain   Glatt sure knew what is was doing with this gelding who hit rock bottom the day Glatt claimed him for for $8K (6th beaten 10L)........he stepped him up 2 levels off of such a dismal effort and rebounded with an impressive 7F win.......steps up 2 more levels today and 7F........and Glatt is solid with "claim repeaters"

7  Nextdoorneighbor   been on quite a roll for an extended period of time.......somewhat due to toss a clunker but I don't see it yet as he worked a nice 5 furlongs at Slr one week ago

2  Sacred Ovation   best early speed in this affair.....what track will the maintenance crew at SA give us today?........the rail was biased 2 days go......this fellow will be nasty tough if we get that.....or......the more fair track like yesterday where 7F might do this fellow in.......or the dead rail we saw for an extended period of time a couple of weeks ago that would do this guy in for sure........I'll say it again: with the same weather day in and day out at SA how on earth can't you keep the track more consistent (very hard to play the 1st race pick 5) Can you imagine if the crew had to maintain a Midwest or Eastern track. Until this meeting I greatly appreciated the fair playing surfaces in S Cal ever since the day I started to cover the circuit about 6 years ago.

6  Congregationlist

race 3    below average clarity

3  So Elite  good spot for an improving invader from GG who is proven on conventional dirt.........high % trainer in Mathis.........eight year old should be in the mix from the get go

1  Smart Ellis   last two dirt races fit just OK for the level but if our top pick doesn't run well......OK might be good enough to handle this miserable looking bunch

2  Trucial State   not much in last......need his effort two races back which might make him the one to overcome........switch to the struggling bug boy and his 7 lbs off

6  Timeless Indy

race 4    below average clarity

1  Bench Warant   2 for 2 on the sod with both races being down the majestic Santa Anita hill grass course........1st at a route on the turf but likely will handle it as his only dirt route fits rather well......was only beaten by 8L by Dortmund in a Grade 1 which is no easy task

7  Soul Driver   all five of his lifetime route races fit pretty well here especially his latest turf endeavor........and today the colt gets Hall of Fame rider Gary Stevens on his back......such a deal

2  Daddy D T   like our 2nd choice this three year old has shown that he fits fine in all of his 5 lifetime route races 4 of which were on the grass...........and his trainer is starting to heat things up some of late

3  Joshy Josh

race 5   average clarity

7  Explicable   Baffert 1st timer sure appears meant and ready with 3 of her last 4 works being out of the gate....and 3 of the works being at has tossed 4 winners from 4 starters........should be Baffert tough

3  Mahee   doubt all that cranked up for her debut as she went off at odds of 19 to 1 for Mulhall......and the a.m. work since is sizzling.......more seems likely today..........very dangerous

10  Vivacious Beauty   strong effort off of a very long layoff in latest and the race is somewhat hidden.......dueled on a slightly dull rail and still hung on for 3rd........stout trainer/rider combo of Cassidy/Gonzalez

4  Hard Night's Day

Long-shot consideration:   8  All That Glitters    not much in MSW debut but Hollendorfer is awfully good with young fillies and the works since this one's debut are improved.....and he draws the sharp riding Kent Desormeaux

race 6    below average clarity

7  Princess Ashlyn   should welcome a switch to the sod in her 3rd lifetime start today as she is nicely bred to handle it.......can get a good stalk position in this spot and that is somewhat hidden

3  Class Divine   very strong work regiment for this Cliff Sise 1st timer......and mom has tossed 7 winners from 7 starers 2 of which won on the turf......fairly sure this filly is ready to rock and roll in her debut

2  Ivana Beat Yabad   drop out of MSW racing should help today in her 3rd lifetime start........blinkers on for today and the equipment change to "blinkers on" is one of Peter Eurton's stronger stats

8  Vow Me Over

Long-shot consideration:  6  L. A. Magic  what ever happened to the Gary Stute barn........the trainer sure seems overdo to awaken.......maybe it happens here at a giant price.......filly is wonderfully bred for the grass and sports a work regiment that suggest's she is fit and ready in her 2nd lifetime race and 1st on the sod

race 7    average clarity

7  Imwiththeblonde   Sadler has been getting the job done of late and he sure has this laid up mare working as though she is ready to roll fresh off of the bench......and in the ultimate fresh race - her debut - she ran an extremely fast race....should be in the mix from the get go

4  Master The Blues   has faced higher levels of racing in last 6 races and not embarrassed herself........last two times up for a tag were her last two wins including once for $40K which is the tag she is up for the switch back to Dersormeaux

8  My Monet   likes SA.....likes the distance (3 2 1 0).......and 1st time with the meets leading rider aboard)..........ignore last as she ran on a dull rail in decent pace and rightfully tired as most in her shoes did on the card that day

9  Crushed Velvet

Long-shot consideration:  1  Rovenna   not sure if Machowsky has this filly ready off of a much needed 5+ month hiatus but if he does she has a ton of talent and appreciates conventional dirt with 4 wins in 6 races on it......and I believe she will go off higher than 8 to 1 ML

race 8    average clarity

8  Finnegans Wake   Miller's starting to make a good trainer in Dale Romans look bad as if sure has turned this six year old into one tough grass runner.........very impressive to get him to win at  3 different Grade 2 race distances: 1 1/8th - 1 1/4 - 1 1/2.....and Espinoza is 4 for 4 on the gelding.......4 straight is tough but the a.m. work hints it is doable

4  Power Foot    very talented when he brings his "A game" .......bit of trouble in last or might have challanged our top pick for the top prize.........rider upgrade (although slumping of late but not for Drysdale) as the once very talented K Fallon  sure was unimpressive in S Cal

6  Joes Blazing Aaron   finished up last fall in NY strongly....then in his layoff run in S Cal 3 weeks ago he set the nastiest of paces and still stuck around for a close 3rd at 1 1/4 on the sod........should be fit and ready for today's significant challange

1  Raise Your Gaze

race 9    average clarity

12  Bandido Too   big effort in 3rd lifetime start and the effort is hidden........3rd out after a layoff today and 1st time Bejarano......hmmmm

14  Captain Carchy   has never missed the board sprinting at Santa Anita.......improving of late and has shown that 7F is to his liking and it won't be to many in here........7F is definitely a "specialty" sprint distance if there ever was one

5  Spin Forty   laid up since August but returns as a 1st time gelding with a decent work tab for his 3rd lifetime start.....and.....he takes that ever dangerous drop out of MSW racing........MSW debut is better than appears on paper to boot

9  Captain G

7  Rodeado

10  Pax Tecum
