Santa Anita for Saturday 28 March 2015

Only 2 days left to save $5.00 when you purchase full card selections for the Kentucky Derby day. As in the past the selections will be sent in your email the night before at approximately 4 p.m Pacific time.

Different format for at least awhile as I want to give comments for every horse which means only the top two choices will have full comments and the rest of the runners will have abbreviated comments. After a full week like this I would appreciate any feedback you could give.

Thanks, your handicapper,

Rich Santucci

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

4  See Through   seems well prepared in the morning for her 1st ever in a maiden claimer.......has been in the money 5 of 8 in MSW racing so she sure seems to be good enough to be formidable in a maiden claimer.....1st on conventional dirt but bred well for it

5  Twinkle Toes   two straight decent sprint races in a row and she sure owns a pedigree that screams out "route racing".....we shall find out today if that is the case

7  Kristinite   drops out of MSW racing......might be on the front end of things here......dangerous

1  Atomicseventynine   no betting whatsoever in both lifetime MSW races......drops.....dangerous scenario 1st at a route

race 2    below average clarity

2  Take Back Spring   1 for 1 at a route......0 for 10 sprinting......seems like the right move to place her back in a two turn race......and likely the reason Mulhall claimed this filly for in her latest

6  Racing For Chasen   takes a logical and significant drop in claiming.......seems likely to be in a nice mid pack position position behind the 1, 4 and 5......Perez knows this filly well

5  Aquacita   blinkers on and light weight bug boy up.......lone lifetime win was the only time this filly was loose (albeit in a sprint)..........decent shot to be loose in a route here

race 3    average clarity

6  Grandson At Last  SCRATCHED OUT OF RACE   little shot in either of his lifetime races.......one where the pace was quite nasty and the other stuck inside up on the pace on a dull rail.......good post here and Danny Velasquez is solid with maiden claimers.......historically by far one of his best trainer stats

9  Player's Charm   prolonged tightly spaced work regiment strongly suggests Walter Solis means business here off of the long layoff with his three year old gelding who is up for the lowest claiming tag of his career........fits very well here if he is fit and ready

8  Coach John   decent maiden debut.......reassuring 5F work since.......jock struggles in S Cal or would have rated higher

3  Domingo Cat   suspicious looking drop of multiple levels....but then again he only went for $5K at sale as a yearling

race 4    average clarity

1  Anniversary Kitty   all three lifetime turf sprint endeavors are impressive......could have made it 3 for 3 in turf sprints if not for a very wide trip on the hill in her last.....switching jocks back to Garcia who has given decent rides on this filly in his two mounts on her

7  Artistic Charm   over the years when Simon Callagham uses top echelon riders with his 1st time overseas invaders they are ready.....when he doesn't it's a gimme.......and here he is using Bejarano....."top echelon" to say the least

8  Ameliatheaviator   deep closer made an impressive late turn of foot down the hill in her latest despite a semi-soft pace up front

3  Fantastic Mizz   no wins but 5 for 5 in the money down the hill.....decent history route to sprint

race 5   average clarity

8  Codacious   solid in both lifetime races and both of her races are better than appear in print........and we get a monumental rider upgrade (especially on a young developing horse) from Steiner to Bejarano......that'll do

9  Major Rager   decent work regiment for this Krujac 1st timer over at LA.......especailly like the back to back 5F gate works under one minute flat

6  Ain't She Pretty   Hollendorfer 1ster is also working well at LA..... and....... being ready with young fillies is right up his alley

11  Twentyfive To Life   might be muscled up running today off of a grass route.......especially with her setting a good pace

race 6   above average clarity

10  Venetian Mask   powerful debut in at Prx in May of 2014......likely hurt in his 2nd lifetime race at Belmont......off since.......returns in the ever dangerous Hollendorfer barn and is working as if Jerry and company have picked up one nice colt....rather sure this fellow is ready to roll

7  Frensham   dropped in class and was up for a tag and he sure ran a strong race.....not so hot of a runner at repeating but he should be a major player here if he does.......Gutierrez knows this fellow inside and out

11  Bam Bam   very nice runner in Brazil in 2014.........finished the year beating 13 of 14 Grade 1 foes........dangerous

12  Kafister   "A game" fits in this spot if our top choice doesn't bring his

Long-shot consideration:   6  Kill Shot   tough trip in last so the jock wrapped up on him.......before his last he had a record of 2 wins and a 2nd in 3 SA races

race 7    average clarity

4  Handfull   just keeps getting better........and........ better ........and better...... and so Mr Hollendorfer ships her south to the big track..........loves the front end and has a good shot to get it here......1 to 2 odds at GG in a winning 40K.....most in here aren't winning for 25K

8  Grandiose Tactics   SCRATCHED OUT OF RACE  seems best on the dirt and would have easily been top pick if this was a dirt race.......but she sure has been facing better in her last two SA races and she has managed 2 2nd's & 2 3rd's in 5 lifetime grass races......and Sadler likely claimed her for this race

2  Jade With Fury   just claimed by Baltas and he sends his new filly long and her running lines sure suggest that's a good move

1  Soresca   Cassidy/Gonzalez very dangerous team especially for an improving filly

race 8    above average clarity

4  Bronzo   sure is bred to run all day long and he has been facing markedly better......as in.....the best in the USA.......impressive 7F work one week ago...........should be tough in this much easier spot

8  Sky Kingdom    Baffert wisely pointed his six year old for this spot as he is by far at his most formidable going the 1 1/2 marathon distance....won the 2013 edition of this race

1  Helm   that old overused saying applies here:  best of the rest

race 9    below average clarity

9  Selection    just claimed and the new trainer appears to have the trump card for this gelding as he working as if he has really improved this three year old......tough post but top jock and weak looking field

10  Pretentious   best lifetime race and a race that fits well here versus a weak looking bunch was the only time Hall of Fame jock Mike Smith rode......and ........he is up today

2  Nakamoto   dangerous speed and a good post.........should be in the race from the get go and might not quit

6  Professor Burns    sprint - sprint - route scenario......bred fine for this grass......trainer is due to wake up (20 0 1 1) .....ouch

3  Rockin Robin   proven on grass but needs better....recent 6F drill hints he might give it

1  Volume   have doubts ready for a top effort in this MSW debut but trouble if he is
