Santa Anita for Sunday 19 April 2015

Better than average card today.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

4  Gold Chaser   all 3 lifetime sprint races at SA are good efforts and his only race at SA at today's 6 1/2 furlong distance was a win......switch back to Prat seems like a plus....should be closing fast late especially if our 2nd and 3rd picks duel for the lead

5  Rocket Heat   lead type only to date seems the most likely to snatch the front end with our 3rd choice as his likely competition for it.......gate to wire shot

2  Next Right   likely feeling awfully good coming off of an easy 14L win.......but can he rate........danger city if he can

race 2    average clarity

7   Flat Footed Mama   laid up Baffert filly went off at 11 to 1 in an 8 horse field in her layoff last after winning by 6L when last seem in November.........that says the "fresh" run was needed and that more is likely to occur today

4  Water Issues   lone lifetime win came sprint to route following a layoff albeit in a dirt race........layoff turf sprint in latest - turf route today.......seems well meant and it is a plus that the hottest jock at SA the last couple of weeks stays aboard

6  Thermodynamics   stepped on the turf for the 1st time in her last and she won......good works since......has room to move forward

1  Warren's Jen Fizz   appreciates route racing......so........sprint - sprint - route scenario seems dangerous.....good post.......good rider

race 3    average clarity

6  Queen of the Hill   mare owns a good history at Santa Anita.......nice win fresh off of the bench in last at today's bottom of the barrel level.......good work since.......seems likely to fire at least as good an effort as her last and maybe even more

8  Jetbird   trainer Javier Sierra and company were a little too ambitious in their placement of this mare following the $8K claim.......away since late Feb but training as if the rest has done her some good.......and she is back in an 8K race.....rebound seems likely

3  Rich in Tradition   race 2 back fits......so does the abbreviated sprint distance.......bug boy is 1 for 1 on the six-year-old mare

2  Addendum   needs to wake up some.....maybe blinkers off for today can help to make that happen

race 4    average clarity

9  Jett'n to Maui   not much in MSW debut way back in Sept.......but takes that magical drop from MSW racing to maiden claiming and he is training impressively at Dxd.......new trainer has been tricky/dangerous

6  Sterling Wager   last two sprints this gelding ran are good for today's level......would have been top selection if I wasn't concerned about him flattening out at the extended sprint distance of 7F.......he has been flat late in all three 5 1/2 sprints

1  Setthebigboysfree   on the improve with every start.....sharp recent drills hint the trend continues

8  Ranger School   trainer is very dangerous 3rd out after layoffs which is the case here......impressive 5/8ths drill on 10 April.......best ever likely today

race 5   average clarity

2  Brother Soldier   on the improve since Richard Baltas took over the training duties last Dec........remains very sharp in the a.m.........deservedly steps up into allowance racing

6  Got Even   needs the lead and seems likely to get it......history at today's distance isn't bad (7 1 0 3).......rider upgrade.......Peter Miller has had a very nice meeting

7  Head South   might be feeling really good.....just popped a very impressive 4F bullet work just 6 days ago......2 for 3 with Desormeaux

3  My Jealous   keeps improving.....needs the trend to continue.......2 for 4 with Iggy up

race 6    below average clarity

8  Conquest Curlgirl   impressive a.m. work for this Casse 1st timer who sure is bred nicely........mom has tossed 6 winners from 7 starters two of which were Stakes winners

4  Sweet and Fuzzy    another 1st timer who seems ready to roll in her debut.......and Hollendorfer is very stout with filly 1st timers........just worked 5F 3 days ago.....you usually don't do that to give your 1st starter a race or two

6  This Is War   both lifetime starts are just OK.......recent a.m. works hint her 3rd start will be better than "just OK".....not impossible to win this war

7  Tiz Josselyn   dangerous looking work regiment for this Tom Proctor 1st timer....trainer seems overdo for a good one

race 7    average clarity

6  Pure Tactics   handles the SA hill grass course just fine.......big one mile run on the sod in last both in final time and pace......back in 2 weeks......seems poised for a top effort

2   Home Run Kitten   very consistent grass runner especially at SA (10 4 2 3).........2 for 3 on the hill......has been facing better where he has hit the board in three straight....should be a major player here

5  Holy Lute   2 for 2 on the hill.....back to Smith.....needs best ever if our top two run their race

8  Sweet Swap   ultra consistent sort and he has plenty of experience on the hill.......3 for 4 with Talamo........dangerous even as 4th choice

race 8    average clarity

7  Marla Hooch   seems like a good claim by Mullins of a filly who has found new life since switching to route racing......major league rider upgrade from struggling apprentice to a red-hot veteran

2  Light Striker   beat softer in last but by 10L and the fig earned fits here.......rider upgrade today......stout trainer in Ron Ellis......seems likely to handle the step up 2nd out after the claim

6  French Alps   keeps stepping up and winning (4 straight) at GG.......1st ever at SA is the ? mark (did win lone conventional dirt race elsewhere)

4  Rosewhitenblue   improved since Machowsky took over the training duties.....not out of this

race 9    average clarity

1  Charming Starlet   best one mile on the grass ever in her last.....best 6 1/2 on the grass ever two back.....and seems better at 6 1/2 furlongs down the grassy hill....potential for career best today

4  Desiresoftheheart   very strong work regiment for this Don Warren 1st timer........and the conditioner is better than average getting a 1ster to fire a big effort on the lawn in their debut

3  Big Move   1st timer gets M Smith........and Yakteen seldom gets Smith to ride......and the works hint that this filly is ready and dangerous

8  Scuti de Patuti  woke up in last 1st on the hill....works since more can occur this afternoon back on the hill

2  Redo It    tough trip in last hides a wake up which was on the hill....still....likely needs a little more

11  Warren's Honey Bee   sporadic but life in this 1st timers drills....might be dangerous.....rider/trainer have upset the apple cart in the past
