Santa Anita for Saturday 13 June 2015

Like on Friday we have another decent looking card today. I was right about my assessment yesterday and feel another good day with our selections is in the cards for today provided we get another even racing surface and our fair share of good trips which we benefited from yesterday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Thermodynamics   progressing nicely since the blinkers were added 4 races back.....solid running a route of ground.....retains Hall of Fame jock in Gary Stevens

1  Wonderful Lie   best credentials in the race but she has been away 10 1/2 months.......good history fresh but unimpressive drills.....tough to tell if she is ready fresh once again

4  Big Book   won her MSW debut at 1st asking.......1st long for today's 2nd start.....decent pedigree for one and retains Bejarano......but trainer is only 1 for his last 18 1st at route

race 2    above average clarity

8  Distinctive B   takes the ever significant drop from top to bottom in the maiden ranks.....laid up since October but sent to James Cassidy impressively at GD

7  Artic Warrior   nice closing 2nd in latest despite a bad trip......broke a little slow and ran wide......change in jocks to the 7 lbs bug boy who gave this five-year old a better ride two races back

1  Coach John   dangerous speed and back 2nd out after a layoff.......shot to be loose and never look back

4  Soul Crusher   best of the rest......five year old needs a rebound to last summer's form....trainer is 0 for 20 and counting in 2015

race 3    average clarity

7  Hugh Knew    appreciates 4 to 6 weeks between starts and gets recent 5/8ths work.........back to Stevens who doesn't ride many $25K trainer.........filly is 2 for 5 on the hill - 0 for 15 elsewhere

3  Majestic Minister   last looks like a route gimme (placed over her head)  to build up her endurance........back in short rest to a level she can handle.....major league rider upgrade and a jock who owns the last two wins for this five-year old mare

2  Chilada   overdo drop......Doug O'Neill is very dangerous with these kind.....1st on the hill is a ? mark

6  Frandontjudge    just claimed by Victor Garcia who scored with over 1/3rd of his 1st outs following a claim.....race 3 back down the hill fits

race 4    average clarity

4  Castle   impressive MSW debut running wide and checking a length and still put in a good stretch run.......nice series of 4 works since...........colt seems to be doing well and should appreciate the extra 1/2 furlong

1  Hot Ore   solid run on the off track in MSW debut.......nice 4F improved drill six days ago........same or better seems likely in 2nd lifetime start

8  Ralis   another with a decent MSW debut.....definitely has a shot with a clever ride from a tough post at 5F

7  Cherokee Dynasty   plenty of endurance put into this 1st timer.......finished up work regiment with 3 straight gate works of five furlongs.......seems fit - meant - ready

race 5   above average clarity

5  Bal a Bali   12 for 13 lifetime in on the sod.......and 5 for 5 at the distance......also 4 for 4 in Grade 1 set of preparatory works for a R Mandella invader in many a moon produced a win.......and the works since continue to be stellar

3  Midnight Storm   powerful layoff run for this steadily improving D'Amato colt......solid series of a.m. work since......should go after the front and might never look back......looking to make it 4 for 4 on the grass and 2 for 2 in Graded races

4  Seek Again   one of my favorite trainers on the planet ships west with a stout late running Grade 1 winner who has been finding trouble race after race and finally tries another rider in Lezcano who has been red-hot teaming up with Mott the last 2 months (39% winners)

race 6    average clarity

9  Coolington   last two sprints (both wins) for this four-year old fit very well here......small drop in claiming (in for $9K in last) doesn't bother me much for a Peter I'm not afraid to lose a horse Miller runner

7  My Slew   obviously a very suspicious 2nd out after the claim drop in claiming.........but Mark Glatt has had some success with this kind the last couple months or so.......still.......flip a coin.....I hate these kind in a race

5  Relentless Heat   last fits and I think he is up to similar today......but.....sure likes to hang in main track races (23 0 7 2)

2  Warren's Rail Bird   not impossible and the trainer won his 1st race of the year in yesterday's nightcap going off at 12 to 1 as our 2nd choice

race 7    average clarity

7  Labour   very consistent grass runner in Argentina nearly scored in his 1st in the good old U S of A in his last......and his conditioner Mike Puype often is more dangerous 2nd time out with a new shooter in his barn

9  Bam Bam   finally gets to run on the grass in the USA........races in Brazil on the turf look quite stout for the nw level at SA.......would have been top pick if Lobo had a better record than (30 0 1 2) in 2015

4  Somethings Unusual   decent history down the hill since Mike McCarthy claimed and added the blinkers for his new shooter...has a shot at the circle of joy but seems to have a little less upside than our top two picks

2  Incline Village   best of the rest......likes the hill and tries hard.....still will likely need a great trip to take this

race 8    above average clarity

4  Beholder  (10 9 1 0) at Santa Anita.........very much the controlling speed in this spot.....yet.....very capable of rating just off of the pace if someone wants to press her a.m. work

5  Warren's Veneda   has turned into quite the consistent Grade 1 and Grade 2 runner......had her 3 race win snapped in last but was only beaten by a length for the win....sharper in the a.m. since......rebound seems likely

6  Wild in the Saddle   best of what's left.......leading rider and leading trainer at the helm

race 9    average clarity

7  Big Move   solid (big move) forward in 2nd lifetime race....and she just popped a very strong 5/8ths bullet drill........especailly so for a female state-bred maiden and she gets 1st time Bejarano

2  Dixie Tweet   Glatt is often at his most dangerous with laid up sprinters.....and the works hint this one is ready for a top effort fresh off of the bench.......1st on the hill is a ? mark

1  Unusual Storm   showed early speed and then tired some in her MSW debut which was on the dirt....nice pedigree to handle the grass.....not out of this if moves forward and her grass pedigree clicks in

3  Lily Kai   useful debut which was also down the SA hill turf course.....some shot here if she builds upon the effort

6  Take It Easyplease   38 to 1 in layoff run suggests the race was a public work-out......still she will need best ever today by quite a bit in her 4th lifetime start......seems like some chance will see it

8  Golden Mamba   work tab is decent......long-shot trainer/rider combo
