Del Mar for Sunday 9 August 2015

Seems like an average card handicapping wise. Be back with you on Wednesday. Don't miss out on a chance to buy full card selections at a discount for Arlington Park on Million day which is one great day of grass racing

Best of luck as always!

race 1    below average clarity

5  Forever a Fan   2 for 2 on the sod.....price shot won by 13L albeit in a cheap N Cal claimer.....stepped up a couple of claiming levels and won again in decent time.......likely needs a little more today but she has been given a couple of months off spending the time working weekly.....should be in the hunt from the get go

1  Thundering Gale   Hess has had success with the claims he makes for the ship and win deal offered at Dmr........last two races at Bel obviously fit but they were around one turn.....filly needs to avoid flattening late as she has in the past in two turn grass races

6  Jade With Envy   consistent sort in two turn grass races...... and .......one hot rider/trainer combo in Graham/Baltas who won two yesterday which I believe makes them 3 for 7 and with the other 4 hitting the board

4  Cleverly Beverly   7 lbs off today and her record at 1 1/16th on the turf stands out as compared to her overall record

race 2    above average clarity

3  New Summit   away since 25 Jan 15 but working well and all three lifetime races are quite a bit better than par especially when you adjust for trip

4  Homer Matt   career best and a very strong effort was his lone race on conventional dirt and it was his MSW debut......new conventional dirt at Del Mar

1  Chasing Kings   over the years Mandella almost always has his very expensive ($925K for this one) 1st time starters ready at 1st asking......good works and draws the meets top gun

race 3    above average clarity

2  Ben's Duchess   so so turf run in last.....back to the dirt where she nearly broke the 1:20 flat barrier for 7F........recent bullet drill......should be tough as nails

4  Dr. Fager's Gal   powerful forward move in latest on a "good" track.......was it the moisture or a general liking for the Dnr surface?............should find out today

1  Ramona's Wildcat    needs her very best here......recent improved work hints she might provide it especially with the meets leading trainer at the helm

race 4    average clarity

7  Atomic Rule   gelding has learned to relax and rate making him a much more dangerous runner......very aggressive impressive work regiment......not my favorite grass rider (like him in route dirt races) but he will have to do

4  Sizzling Joe   consistent sort.......2 for 6 at today's turf distance.......2 for 20 at other turf distances.....that'll do

2  China Prince   another who seems to appreciate today's distance turf or dirt......Nakatani is back in stout turf riding form after a small slump

3  Better Bet   Pedroza needs to shake off Flores and open up a lead and thus be dangerous.......that seems doable

race 5    below average clarity  (AE 11  Carlos Dangerous has a shot if draws in)

2  Counterplay   woke up with blinkers put on in his latest........fits if he benefited from the improved effort some and muscled up a little for even more today

6  Tribal War   so so MSW debut.....drops and with that effort under his belt  he should move forward this afternoon.......to what degree is the ? mark

1  If You Dream   trainer is 0 for his last 2 dozen with mc 1sters but this colt is working too well to ignore..... and seemingly faces a soft group in which to break into

9  Rickles   finally drops to where he can be competitive.......that is unless it is too late

Long-shot consideration:   8  Sorcerer's Wildcat   another trainer with a lousy record with 1st time starters but this two-year old is seemingly out working everyone in the field and the trainer is 1 for  2 at the meeting

race 6   below average clarity

8  Moyo Honey   two powerful dirt races both disguised by bad trips.....1st at a route and 1st on the green carpet......has an adequate pedigree for both

10  Holograeme   on the improve with every start.....toss out lone turf race as it was her MSW debut and she was without the blinkers that day.....mom has tossed 3 turf winners from 4 starters.....might be 4 for 4 after today

1  Majestic Heat   strong late runner gets a rider upgrade and a good post.....she should be motoring late......right in Nakatani's wheelhouse

5  Miss Gifted   might be a good claim by Sadler and company.....impressive recent 6F drill in preparation for today's race

Long-shot consideration:   3  Tiz Ladys Legs   obvious gimme/go win to break maiden in 2014.......same gimme/go situation in 2015

race 7    average clarity

4  Dreamy Art   very powerful MSW debut albeit in the slop......a ton here if she can run similar on a fast rated track today

10  Surfside Tiara   very solid MSW debut/time that was supported with a gap of 8L behind her 2nd place finished.....rider upgrade too

9  Treasuring   14 to 1 for a Baffert MSW debut runner strongly suggests the race was a tune-up (and a good one at that) and that more will occur in her 2nd lifetime start.......very dangerous

3  Albeit   might have disliked the gooo.....deserves another shot especially considering the red-hot connections

race 8    average clarity

6  Papacoolpapacool   very wide trip in last gave Mr Cool little shot........I doubt that will happen again as Stevens will be out to make amends

3  Om   won lone lifetime grass race rather easily.....and is working on the grass exceptionally well....... displaying good speed and endurance in the drills

9  Prospect Park   best animal in the race tries the sod for the 1st time and with a decent pedigree for it.....back to Desormeaux who owns both lifetime wins on this colt.....very dangerous

4  Over Par   red-hot connections (O'Neill/Reddam/Gutierrez) scratched this one out of a race yesterday versus easier where this fellow likely would have been favorite.....that's good enough for little old me

race 9    average clarity

13 AE  Lexie Arlene   seems like a good claim by Richard Freeman who does fairly well following one......like the rider change from one who is in a slump to one who is not

11  Amina Perfect   seems like a good claim by Miyadi who wins his fair share 1st out after a snatches a given horse.....and he makes a rider change.........a very positive one

3  Lazy Daisy May   seems best at six panels and she sure is training well for a low-level claimer at Slr.....should be a player

4  Peppy Bolly   drops precipitously to stop the win less at the meet pain..........or......... she is in baaaad shape

12  Lil Cheyenne    a rather decent stat for Glatt  is 3rd out after a layoff and that is the case here.....and Bejarano sticks around

9  It's Aine   on a downward spiral......needs a rebound

5  Rich In Tradition    last fits fine but doesn't repeat back to back good efforts too often....needs to break the mold......lookout is she does
