Santa Anita for Saturday 22 August 2015

Decent Saturday card handicapping wise. Great card today quality wise.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

4  Dream Team   expensive Baffert 1st timer looks all cranked up and ready to roll.......mom has tossed 6 winners from 6 starters 4 of which were able to win at two

3  Clickjab   best ever was his latest which was his 1st venture on conventional dirt.......6 1/2 furlongs seems like a good fit

6  Colonial Power   nice forward move in 2nd lifetime start both in pace and final time.......had a rider upgrade for 2nd lifetime start and gets another upgrade for today's 3rd lifetime start

race 2    average clarity

9  Knock Em Flat   scratched from a tougher race last Thursday for this affair.....good history at one mile on conventional dirt......any of his last 4 races fit fine here

5  I Don't Care Who   decent chance there is enough speed in this affair to flatter his late running style.......very strong race 3 back ........the last time.......hot riding Bejarano was aboard

3  Rocked Twice   drop........and back to the dirt (which he seems to prefer)....... might wake him up

8  Sea Preacher   claimed way back in early Feb.....off since but is working well enough to be dangerous fresh

race 3    average clarity

3  Air Pocket   both lifetime grass races are very solid........better than par when adjusted for trouble MSW affairs........should be able to get a nice stalk position likely saving some ground at least thru turn 1

5  Dylan Ward   consistently competitive grass runner but definitely likes to hang........so.........blinkers on for the 1st time ever makes plenty of sense......it might help his focus and keep him stopping we he gets close to the front

2  Another House   showed life in MSW debut which was a turf route race at Lrl........and Tom Proctor is much more dangerous with 2nd time starters

9  Junior G Man   really getting sharp in the a,m.........Art Sherman bothers to ship......sitting on a move forward

race 4    below average clarity

1  Turnover   lone race run on conventional dirt stands out as very much his best.......and he appears to have the best early gas in the race.....big step up but definitely fits well here if he duplicates his lone "dirt" effort

5  Kobe's Back   bad gate horse sure does crank it up late despite some bad starts......and he seems at his best at today's 7 panels

race 5    above average clarity

1  Got Even   training as if the 4 month break has done some good......best distance for him is one mile.....needs the lead and has a good chance of getting it here

2  Perfect Set   last two races sure fit well......nice mid pack or stalking style should fit here.....seems likely to sit 1st or 2nd and save some ground......should be tough

7  Grazen Sky   seems at his best around two turns.......back to two turns today........should be motoring late

3  Airfoil      needed last as he had little a.m.preparation prior to the race.....likely to show more.....to what degree is the ? mark

race 6   below average clarity

6  Boyett   nice wake up in last.......has a good history for Bejarano......likes the lead but rated just off of the pace in latest and almost won losing by only a nose........being able to rate gives top jock some options

10  Twentytwentyvision    hard to argue with 2 wins and 2 2nd's in 4 lifetime grass races........been lucky with his post positions until today or would have been top pick

8  Soi Phet   big wake up in last at 32 to 1 odds......fits if he builds upon the effort

3  Poshsky   solid wake up in last........five year old has had multiple excuses in his last 10 running lines when he hasn't preformed well finish wise

Long-shot consideration:   1  Maltes   layoff last really wasn't that bad considering the extended hiatus from racing and the fact it was his 1st ever in the good old U S of A.......works since his race are improved.......seems likely to move forward

race 7    average clarity

NOTE:  AE 12  Devoted One  has a shot if draws into the field from the also eligible list

1  Tiz a Tommy Town   solid in both lifetime races.......and look at the rider upgrade for today - average jockey to Rosario with his stout National reputation and deservedly so

5  Fabulous   exits a very fast heat (albeit in the slop) where getting beat by 9 3/4L was nearly a par like effort........solid 2 drills drills.....and Eurton is much better with 2nd time starters

7  Annie's Curls   also exits a fast heat where his 4th place finish was close to par........blinkers on and Bejarano stays on......more has a shot of concurring.......and more would make his a major factor

2  She's On the Line   might benefit from her last a decent turf route.......turf might have muscled her up for a return to the dirt today

race 8    average clarity

2  Ganesh   very consistent when running in marathon grass races......and sure is working as if top conditioner Richard Mandella has him fully fit and ready off of a 3 month break

4  Big John B   seems to be rounding into form......2 for 2 last summer on the new Del Mar grass course and both races were at today's distance.....and one of the races won last years version of this Grade 2 race

8  Finnegans Wake   don't count this fellow out on firm turf.......last 6 firm turf endeavors (6 4 2 0)......and all those races were Grade 1 or Grade 2 affairs

1  Ashleyluvssugar   fell off in his last.......previous two races are solid for the Grade 2 level.......needs a rebound

race 9    average clarity

3  Bayern   needs the lead (or totally folds) to preform at a very high level and seems likely to get it here as Stevens likes to stalk with Beholder......1st time Bejarano.......top jock has had only one mount for Baffert over the last two months but it was a win

9  Beholder   unreal record on conventional dirt (14 11 2 0) and working terrifically......but......I am leery of her getting to 12 furlongs.......but if she doesn't have a problem with the added distance she is likely to beat the guys

8  Hoppertunity   will be waiting in the wings if our top two press each other too hard (1 1/4 is a long way to go if the fractions are too fast)

5  Red Vine   vastly improved since switching to the dirt.......Clement is very dangerous when he ships long distance.....and NYC to Del Mar qualifies for long distance

race 10    average clarity

8  Roy H   very impressive in all three lifetime starts which were all grass sprints........had about 5L of trouble in a 5F grass race in his last and still only lost by 1/2 length....that is impressive

3  Mischief Clem   away since mid Feb but finished off a nice work series with a near bullet very fast 5F drill..........and Hess doesn't push his stock too hard.....seems very sharp....good rider/trainer team

7  Labour   last was strong especially considering Smith had to cope with the outer most 10 post.......better post today for Hall of Fame jock

2  Mal Verde   laid up since Jan but training as if he is ready.........might be best in turf sprints ......not impossible with a clever ground saving trip

race 11    average clarity

8  Second Proposal    big layoff run in last.....very good sign that Kruljac jacks him up 3 claiming levels......last fits......2 lbs less to carry today and might be able to move forward 2nd out after the layoff

7  Buckleberry Grey   nicely improved since O'Neill claimed 3 races back.........last is better than appears in print.....wide up on a hot pace.....did well to grab 2nd

10  Kafister   small drop helps......seems to like to start from outside posts ......5 for 11 at today's 6F distance

4  Saint Prado   claimed by Stute and he just got this fellow to pop a sizzling best of 71 bullet 4F work......Stute might have the trump card for this horse

5  Mike Man's Gold   been racing over his head.....drop should help

9  Eddie's First   last win came 5 back at today's 32K level.........sharp a.m. work at L.A........not impossible
