Santa Anita for Sunday 27 September 2015

In celebration of the return of major league racing to Southern California we are offering both days of the Breeders Cup at Keeneland (one of my favorite racetracks) Oct 30th and 31st for $33.95 The 53% savings ends Sept 30th.

Average looking card today. Be back with you on Thursday.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    above average clarity

1  Roo's Valentine   impressive debut.....4 wide up on the pace and still managed to only get beat be 1/2 length.......3 reassuring works since.......decent chance another strong effort is still in the tank

3  Hurricane Callie   on the improve with every start and if she can move forward once again she is the one to overcome

5  Californiasunshine    36 to 1 in MSW debut hints this Drysdale filly wasn't all that cranked up for her debut....so.....it's logical to believe she will show quite a bit more today......and she will need to to have a shot versus our top two selections

race 2    average clarity

6  Formally Wild   solid run 1st ever on the dirt in last.......and a very reassuring 4F (1st time working at SA) work since......same as last or better seems likely this afternoon

7  Cougar Country   ran as well as our top choice in his latest......hoping the jock/connections take back some or I think the extra 1/2 furlong will hurt

5  Top Drawer   somewhat suspicious drop considering he ran  a nice 2nd at 25K 1st run following the Palma claim.....but.....he sure fits solidly if he has remained in decent physical condition.....switch to Bejarano hints that he has

1  Keegers   his last race appears to be a successful tune-up as the 4F work since the layoff run is very impressive......more seems likely today......how much more is the question

race 3    average clarity

6  Kenjiislucky   seems like a good pick up of a decent Midwest claimer for Diodoro and company.......and the high percentage conditioner has him working as if he means business with him 1st time out in S Cal

5  A Colt Following   likes SA quite a lot so I like that the barn passed on running him at Lrc.......drops multiple levels and Bonde is quite dangerous when he does

7  Justonemorething   consistent sort deservedly steps up following his lifetime best effort.....like that the barn takes the weight off and places him at 18K as it tells me he exited his rest in decent shape and the connections mean business once again today

1  Whiskey Wild   hidden effort in last.....ran wide on a rail biased day.....would high placed higher if he showed more prowess in the a.m.......but then again works aren't everything

race 4    below average clarity

3  Mor Spirit    expensive two-year old in training purchase last March is working as if Baffert's assembly line has another 1st timer ready to roll......mom has tossed 4 winners from 5 starters and 3 of them preciously were able to graduate at two

8  Student Body Left    another Baffert 1st time starter cranked and seemingly ready for his MSW debut as well

2  Street Vision   exits a fast heat of MSW runners where an 8L beaten 4th was a decent effort........only needs an improvement of a couple of lengths to fire a better than par effort this afternoon

5  Urlacher   beat our 3rd choice by 3/4's of a length.......so......pretty much the same scenario for this fellow as our 3rd selection

race 5    average clarity

9  Horizonalyspeakin   love when a one-dimensional speed type successfully rates and wins for the 1st time as this five-year old did........and he is very sharp in the a.m.......seems poised for another solid effort

3  You Know I Know   at his best running on the sod at the distance of one mile.......and the trainer K. Desormeaux is stout 2nd out following a claim which is the case here

5  Husband's Folly   been facing better and not producing (at least on the turf) so the drop makes sense......should fit fine at today's $40K level

1  Buymeabond   seems sharp and just claimed back by Carava........6 for 14 at the distance on the grass........might handle the 2 claiming level rise

race 6    average clarity

1  Ashleyluvssugar   like that Stevens stays up as it hints that this successful Graded Stakes runner is feeling OK and likely will be very tougher in this non Graded small Stakes race (as opposed to:  he has slipped some and thus seeks softer company)

5  Texas Ryno   blinkers on has really improved this colt for Carla Gaines......1 1/4 turf distance should be a good fit......sharp reassuring recent drill

9  Kulik Lodge   3 for 4 with M Smith up.......and all of those efforts were on the sod........sure like his pedigree to handle the 1 1/4 distance

2  Danas Best   has a shot to sit close up and save ground in a race that might be awfully kind to those in the hunt early as there is a lack of speed in this affair

Long-shot consideration   6 Class Leader   obviously placed over his head in last.......in fact it was rather impressive to only lose by 14 lengths to superstar Beholder and finish only 5 3/4's behind 2nd place finisher Catch a Flight.....1st on the grass but sure owns a very good pedigree for it

race 7    below average clarity

5  Vegas Strip   good history in conventional dirt sprints (4 1 2 1).....away since Nov. but very cranked up and seemingly ready to roll for Baffert and company.....20 to 1 ML for a Baffert runner.....such a deal

3  Sir Samson   a ton if he brings his "A game" (like 1 Feb 15) off of the long layoff......works hint that he might

4  Shelton Pass   exits a fast MSW heat which he won by 9L......pace was very slow which obviously helped him but it also likely made for a stress-less run and in all likelihood left plenty in the tank for today's higher level

11  Gangnam Guy   2 for 2 on the dirt since the blinkers were removed......in all likelihood he needs a little more than his last.....stout a.m. work hints he might provide it

race 8    average clarity

5  Twentytwentyvision   very solid consistent grass horse beat some nice horses running 2nd 2 races back in a Grade 1.....followed that up with a win vs. softer but earned a strong fig in the race.....and he carries 5 lbs less today than he did earning that fig

6  Talco   another impressive turf horse.....talented and consistent........(6 3 3 0) all on the grass in last six races.....would have won 2nd straight Graded race in last if not for a slightly tardy start and a wide trip

7  Avanzare   won his last two (both G2's) having to cope with the difficult outer-most post at one mile on the grass.....better post today and Hall of Fame jock stays aboard for the fourth straight time

1  Poshsky   popped lifetime best in latest only losing to our top choice by 1/2 length running 2nd.........not sure he likes the SA turf as much as the Dmr turf but if he does he is not out of this

Long-shot consideration:  2 Hot Hot Hot   seemingly needs to lead and might be able to get it here.......lone route turf race is very strong pace & number wise and was run two races back.........and 1st time D'Amato is a dangerous thing to boot

race 9    average clarity

6  Afleet Domination   route fit and drops out of MSW racing for start number 3........easy to put on top

4  Sugar Buzz   decent mc debut so O'Neill might have made a good claim......1st at a route but owns a good pedigree for it.........jock upgrade to Mr. Bejarano from a slumping Maldonado

7  Palamon   solid forward move in 2nd lifetime start.....1st at a route today and with a decent pedigree for one

1  Storm Quest   not much in mc sprint debut......but......lookout if the race was "exercise" as this fellow is bred to run all day long and might have always been pointed to today's route race

8  Nusret   bet to favorite in both lifetime starts..........deserves one more shot?

2  Keepin It Lucky   best of what remains
