Del Mar for Thursday 12 November 2015

OK race card to start the new week of racing at Del Mar.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Picasso's Mandolin   solid MSW debut and the a.m. prowess since suggests similar or better will occur in his 2nd lifetime start.........and Ron Ellis is quite a bit more dangerous with 2nd time starters

4  Seattle Serenade   rather sure this very expensive 1st time starter is ready to roll off of an extremely impressive work regiment over at LA........and it is Mike Smith's lone mount of the day......almost always a good sign for the choosy rider

2  Statesman   little shot to strut his stuff in MSW debut as he was stuck on a dull rail up on the pace which does just about anyone in........ not to mention a youngster........continues to train like he owns some ability.....should be in the mix from the get go

race 2   average clarity

6  Tell Her Yes   trainer defies gravity with 36% winners in 2015 from 89 starters.......last 3 one mile races on main track surfaces are very strong for this bottom level.......and this three-year old filly is 3 for 5 at the distance

2  Mudge   carries ten lbs less today and is the best of the late runners in a field that should yield a lively pace up front......good rider/trainer combo in Lopez/Miyadi

3  Flyin for a Livin   seems to be in an every other mode and today she is on the good end of the pendulum

race 3   average clarity

7  Sweet Invention   1ster only cost $42K in June so starting for $62.5K doesn't bother me........sure seems more than ready as Hendricks has put 4 straight 6F drills (only spaced 6 days apart) into his debut runner......and the last work appears to be her best......rather sure she is meant and ready

1  Straight N Strong   both lifetime sprint races fit.......just claimed by Marquez and he adds blinkers likely to help his filly maintain her focus longer......and we get a positive switch in jocks (at least of late) from a somewhat cold Baze to a fairly hot Quinonez

5  Sweet Queen   Gallagher has a very dismal record with 1st time starters but this filly is working too well to ignore

3  Patience Lady

race 4    above average clarity

4  Greyson and John   blinkers on in latest and the equipment change vaulted this colt forward.......placed well to win and the jock is hot..........Kent D is 9X in the exacta in 14 mounts at the meeting..........should be tough

5  Courageous Dave   all three lifetime starts fit with few reasons not to believe she can run a 4th .......solid rider/trainer combo

3  Brownie Finale   race two back fits both in final time and pace......clunker in last but might not have liked the 103 degree heat that day.......if so.......rebound city today

2  Ready Cat

race 5    average clarity

1  Asian Sun   believe his dirt sprint MSW debut was a tune-up for today's 2nd lifetime start going two turns on the turf.......bred to run all day and mom has produced a turf winner......good post and good turf rider

2  Tough It Out   D'A is heating up (15 5 2 2) with his last 15 starters.......and he changes jocks from a slightly cold one in Talamo to a red-hot one in Gonzalez.......1st at a route and 1st on the turf but owns a decent pedigree to handle both.......sprint - sprint - route scenario for 3rd lifetime start

9  Speedin With Eddie   not much speed in this affair and this youngster has some.....that helps his chances from the outer-most post to clear most or maybe all by turn 1......1st turf and 1st at a route but that is the case for everyone in this MSW Cal-bred affair

8  Gio Mio

Long-shot consideration:   3  Packin Heat   MSW dirt debut is better than appears in print.......and ........2nd and 3rd came back to win........and he owns a good grass pedigree as well as a good route pedigree

race 6    below average clarity

3  One Last Shot   best lifetime race was his lone effort on the dirt and it was at Del Mar and at today's 5 1/2F.......that effort/fig fits well in this spot......and considering it was his MSW debut you would think there is some upside following two route grass races

1  Uptown Twirl   both lifetime races at SA fit solidly .......only other lifetime race was at Del Mar and it doesn' race at Dmr might not tell the full story......we likely will find out today

6  My Dynamo    fired a very impressive effort 2 back in her MSW debut......caught wide fairly close to a brutal pace and still managed to win......might be a good thing to run off of 10 weeks rest considering how well this filly preformed in her debut.........dangerous

race 7    average clarity

2  Holy Lute   best credentials sprinting on the turf in this field including the 5F configuration at Dmr......scratched out of the BC turf sprint because of a technical issue....lands here vs. significantly easier

1  El Nino Trouble   mostly has been a route speed horse in his career but he also shows speed when he does sprint......away since April but returns with some sizzling drills and returns as a 1st time gelding........O'Neill/ Bejarano combo has been hot the last couple of weeks

8  Richard's Boy   consistent sort and especially so on the turf where he is 3 for 4........should sit on or near the front end in an affair that appears to favor those who have some early speed......and Peter Miller does awfully well with speed types

6  Di Giorgio

race 8    average clarity

10  Cordiality   like the change in apprentice riders.....and I like the step up in claiming price.....both suggest this Art Sherman filly will move forward for the 3rd straight time....and if she does she should be tough

6  Tiz Pleasant   3 straight 2nd place finishes......but........Bejarano sticks around and her latest was better....... seemed to appreciate taking back some and having a target.....helped her guess is (and I hope) that will be today's tactic

7  Betty's Joy   Herbert Bacon has done well with limited starters in 2015 and he is 2 for his last 6 with MC 1st at LA seem rather good.....dangerous

2  Black Clover

11  Princess Kendra

5  Ten Dollar Note
