Santa Anita for Saturday 26 December 2015

Opening day at the Great Race Place is often full of quality horses and large fields and today is no exception.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Moonlight Meeting   Miller likely claimed this gelding with SA in mind as the four-year old is 3 for 5 at SA and 0 for 7 elsewhere......sharp 3 work series has all primed and ready to roll

5  Secret Ovation    double barrel action here for Miller with another running 1st following the claim.......should be loose with our top choice stalking.....digs in nicely when challenged in the stretch

1  El Nino Terrible   good time to do a multi-level drop.......as in following a voided claim.......worked well enough to overcome what ails him?.......we shall see

3  Airfoil

race 2    average clarity

12  Little Mustard   subtle improvement in latest with a well disguised 3 1/2 lengths of trip adjustment........hot trainer the last 3 or 4 months especially when Gutierrez is aboard his stock

7  Bobby Z   decent work tab for this Miyadi 1st time starter.......seems significant that he is able to get Rosario to ride......and it also seems significant he has recently been a trainer scratch twice.......shopping for a good spot/post most likely

5  Gambler's Wish   pressed a brutally fast quarter in last leaving him gasping for air.......decent shot to open up a loose lead today and if he gets a reasonable set of fractions.........he..................might......................go.....................all.....................the......................way

10  Da Brooklyn Kid

race 3    below average clarity

6  Asian's Way   very good-looking work tab and it is at SA.....especially impressed by the bullet 6F work on Dec 2nd.......mom has tossed 2 winners from 2 starters and both were able to win at 2

7  Cobia   Tom Proctor 1ster put in a very nice series of solid 4F works at Fai and then some easier longer endurance building works after that....only mount of the day for Nakatani...,....seems significant

1  Escapee   best early gas of those who have raced and the blinkers go back on today.......Baffert is dynamite with "blinks back on" ........and........"route to sprint" which is also the case here......jock upgrade to Mr Bejarano

10  Josie The E F Five

Long-shot consideration:   4  Everqueen   showed good speed for 4F and then fell apart in MSW debut.......returns nearly 4 months later with a much more accomplished trainer in control.........works look good......dangerous change of barns play

race 4    average clarity

12  No Silent   consistent hard trying sort seems at his best down the SA hill grass course........owns a nice mid pack running style down the hill which is usually an advantage.......retains Stevens who was aboard for a Grade 3 win down the hill two races back

1  Richard's Boy   4 for 5 lifetime on the grass and a perfect 2 for 2 down the hill.....should be in the mix from the get go........and Peter Miller is one tough conditioner with sprinter speed types on the sod or on the dirt

7  Alert Bay   in love with the SA grass course (5 4 0 1)........two of those wins were in Grade 2 affairs.......1st down the hill is a small question mark

9  Holy Lute

Long-shot consideration:   11  Somethings Unusual   very strong consistent turn moves down the hill for this price shot .....has blown some late leads down the hill but most of those races he carried 5 lbs more than today.......not impossible with a clever ride by Van Dyke who knows him well

race 5    average clarity

3  Danzing Candy   very eventful MSW debut.....broke bad - rushed - checked - ran wide.....stellar effort to only get beat 6 3/4.......upgrade to Smith for 2nd lifetime start..........two sharp drills since his debut......showed the energy of a Stakes horse

4  Mr. Coker   rather sure this Hollendorfer 1st timer is very ready to rock and roll in his MSW debut off of copious 6F works some of which are stout........should be more than fit to handle 7F in his debut into the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing

11  An Khe Pass   another Holendorfer 1st timer that appears dangerous and he draws one of the Big Apple's better jocks

5  Oppidum

Long-shot consideration:   7 Prince of Arabia   James Cassidy 2nd time starter went off 30 to 1 in MSW debut and showed life......the fact he went off so high hints he wasn't all the cranked up and meant in his MSW.........might be now

race 6    average clarity

10  Om  by far the best turf credentials in this affair....and you have to like the fact he chased for the 1st time and still preformed well in his last running 2nd in a Grade 1........if you wager on this guy:   sit....cross your legs.....concentrate/focus...... and chant......ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

6  Mister Brightside   good history on firm grass both in GB and the USA......blocked and checked about 4L or might have caught Om in his last.....new jock today.....Mr Stakes (as in Mike Smith) and with 4 lbs off

7  Acceptance   speed type will appreciate the cut back in distance of one furlong and 4 less lbs to carry........dangerous especailly if Stevens takes back once again with Om

3  Crittenden

race 7    above average clarity

6  Ben's Duchess   very consistent three-year old filly for Sadler who has been stout with young filly sprinters over the years.......lone race at seven panels is much better than appears in print and might be the most impressive race of her career........hard to imagine she can work any better.......highly likely to be a major player

3  Cavorting   5 for 6 sprinting with her lone blemish (and a small one at that) coming in the Breeders Cup F & M sprint........top East Coast connections in McLaughlin and Ortiz Jr.......that'll do

2  Hot City Girl   likes to sit on or near the lead and that appears likely here......Linda Rice is a very impressive 32% with her last 34 Graded Stakes runners many of which were shippers

9  Moyo Honey

race 8   above average clarity

4  Runhappy   6 for 6 sprinting and all his wins outside of his BC Sprint win were by daylight......trains like he runs........as in something very special......lone race at 7F was run in 120:2 at Sar......yikes

2  Marketing   crushed his foes in both lifetime races and continues to show in the morning that he deserves a shot versus the best.......McLaughlin has always been stout when he ships......7F should be a good fit having won at 6 1/2F and a one turn mile

7  Lord Nelson   Baffert is awfully good at getting laid up sprinters to fire their very best 1st out following a layoff and the a.m. prowess displayed by Lord Nelson hints he is more than ready.......and you have to like this fellow's lone Graded win came at SA in a Grade 2 and with today's rider up

5  El Kabier

race 9   average clarity

4  Tale of Life    basically has been fresh 3X in his career.....debut in Nov 2014 in France........1st out for 2015 in Ireland...........and 1st race in USA in Sept.........2 wins and a 2nd in those 3 races.......not as long a break between starts today but two months will do especially with one of the best trainers in the USA at the helm in Motion

2  Dreaming of Gold   sprint tune-up in last (couldn't have been more dead on the board).......should be a full throttle go 2nd out after the trainer change to Hollendorfer.....seems likely to get a nice mid pack ground saving trip at least thru turn one.....and that is 1/2 the battle

9  Second Summer   last wasn't bad but what we want is his effort 2 back where he was ambitiously placed in a Grade 2 and ran wide.....earned a better than par adjusted Santucci fig for the nw alw level..............1 1/8 looks like a plus....stout trainer-rider team
