Santa Anita for Monday 18 January 2016

Up next Friday following today's OK race card

Best of luck as always!

race 1    above average clarity

2  Asian's Way   very impressive MSW debut both visually and time wise.......reassuring works since.....sold for only $37K last May........seems like a steal now

3  Decked Out   won for fun in her MSW debut in May at SA.......been ambitiously placed since in major Stakes affairs west of the Mississippi.....back home and back in an alw race.......fits well

5  Uptown Swirl   good early gas and now adds blinkers.......most likely to grab the lead.....that alone makes her dangerous

race 2    average clarity

5  Cool Green   improving sort should take to the turf as mom has tossed 3 grass winners from her other 3 starters including a Stakes winner........dirt route in latest is much better than appears in print running wide up on a hot pace......should be in the hunt from the opening bell

4  Heat   seems best running one mile on the grass......gets a small break (likely needed with 6 races in Fall) and working well.......should be a player

9  At Ease   shows plenty of energy when routing on the grass but sure likes to run wide when she draws outside jock today in apprentice David Lopez.....the kid is riding well.....lookout if he gets over and finds the 2 path or better on the 1st turn

7  Ace Deuce

race 3   average clarity

4  Tough Sunday   banking on the race collapsing to some degree........if it does this 2nd out after a layoff mid pack runner should be in the mix when it counts the most in........ at the wire

3  Bad Read Sanchez   seems to appreciate contact to the front end and should be able to accomplish that back in an alw race for the first time since winning his debut by 10L way back in June of 2014

2  Silent Bird   still a maiden but Glatt must like what he sees as it is very unusual for the trainer to run someone over their head......decent recent 4F drills hint we will see more early gas today

race 4    average clarity

7  Desert Express   by far at his best at today's 5 1/2 furlong distance.......all three lifetime races at the abbreviated sprint distance are better than appear in print.......and all three had a very low percentage jockey up.......not the case today

2  Bistro Light   toss out lone lifetime race which was a MSW turf race in April......not bred for the sod and the race had a solid field......returns in a bottom level claimer and with sharp a.m. work.......and Glatt is often ready and dangerous with laid up sprinters

6  My Ole Bud   sure has run well versus better.......definitely fits if he returns close to the same runner off of the 9 month to the scene 6% win 7 lbs bug is up

4  Attack

race 5    below average clarity

10  Brimstone   3 wins and a close 3rd in his last since being gelded....and he was washy on a cool day in his the break of 2 months seems like a wise move....and his a.m. work hints he has recovered from whatever was bothering him....should be in the hunt from the get go

7  Dreaming of Gold   all 4 lifetime endeavors at 1 1/8th on the grass suggest that another furlong will be to his liking.....and he sure is bred to run all day......Jerry H. is cold lately but you know that won't last long

3  Malko   if this French invader is ready both mentally and physically off of the 1/2 year layoff he should be a major player.......tough call if he is or not

12  China Girl Lover

race 6    average clarity

5  Mr. Coker   very strong MSW debut and continues to work like something special.......and he retains the meets top gun to date in Santiago Gonzalez

2  Twirling   improving work regiment for this well-bred Baffert 1st has tossed 3 winners from 3 starters including a Stakes winner......Baffert/Bejarano are starting to heat things up as a combo.....been rather strange that they haven't teamed up much over the last few years

4  Full of Hope   believe this Ellis 1st starter is meant and ready off of a nice work tab and a work tab that hints this colt will come from off of the pace with son-in-law Joe Talamo up.......can you sing  "Under Pressure" written by David Bowie

10  Inhibition

race 7    below average clarity

6  Inspired Wisdom   plenty of early speed in this affair to flatter his late running style.......1 for 1 at Santa Anita on the dirt......Jones has a decent history of getting back to back wins out of a claimer

3  Cougar Country   history with blinkers on when placed in sprints stands out (6 2 1 2)........and seems likely to get a nice mid pack or stalking ground saving trip

12  Eagle Rock   very solid effort 3 weeks back at today's same level.....would have been top choice if it wasn't for the nasty post (11 thru 13 in sprints yet to win 16 starts) that he has to cope with.......but than again Bejarano is at the controls

7  Roper

Long-shot consideration:   4  Awesome Leap   won maiden debut and ran 2nd off of a 4 month layoff in only two "fresh" efforts........11 months since his last and Sherman has him training as if he might be ready....fits if he is

race 8    average clarity

10  Chaulk O Lattey   shows up every time she runs on the turf and Bejarano takes her over a horse he won a Grade 3 on in her last......likes the distance and likes the SA sod.......hard to be more deserving of her 1st Grader race challenge

9  Stormy Lucy   best grass credentials in the race by far.....not top pick as one mile is not her favorite distance.....still......not out of this by any mean

7  Keri Belle   NY invader is (3 2 1 0) at the distance and 1 for 1 at SA which was run at today's one mile 5F work since shipping in from The Big Apple....seems ready

4  Theatre Star

race 9    below average clarity

6  Grand Command   Eurton has been breaking the mold historically speaking of late with 1st time starters.....not ready with them for most of his career he has been of late.....and the works for this 1st timer suggest he is meant and ready and has some early gas

9  Tribe of Gamblers   solid move forward in latest and it is somewhat hidden........reassuring 4F work since......steps up hints he has never felt better.....should have plenty in the tank when push comes to shove in late stretch coming off of a route

8  Star Express   consistent sort draws Bejarano hinting Sherlock has him at his best as Raffy seldom rides for the low percentage conditioner.....danger city

10  Blix Curve

5  Bobby Z

2  David Lopez
