Santa Anita for Friday 11 March 2016

Rain is in the forecast and is predicated to start about the time the 2nd race is about to go off. That might make for a difficult day. Hopefully the track dries out for Saturday as it is an excellent card both in quality and in handicapping clarity.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Filly On Fire   last three races fit so it seems like a good claim by Papaprodromou......and I sure like the rider change he makes to Prat as I am not to big a fan of Blanc in dirt sprint races

4  Missy Mouse   another just snatched at the claiming box by Vladimir Cerin and the conditioner is better than average 1st out following a claim........sure like that he is able retain the meets leading rider in Bejarano

6  Amberella  back to apprentice rider Lopez who has had some success on this six-year-old mare.......vastly better work since this mare's last which was dull........rebound seems likely and at a price

race 2    below average clarity

(if stays on the grass   4-2-5-6)

4  Doodetta   nice history down the majestic SA hill grass course (4 1 1 2).........blocked in tight on the rail in the stretch in latest or would have won down the hill at one claiming level higher.....the meets top jock will be out to make amends..

race 2    below average clarity

(if moved to the main track   2-4-6-7-5)

2  Q' Viva   last two races when running at  6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt fit solidly here and both were carded for the dirt as opposed to moved turf to dirt.......thus they made for tougher fields

race 3    average clarity

5  Pica  take a look at this lady in conventional dirt sprint races when wearing blinkers (3 2 1 0)......her last is disguised by being caught 3 wide only one length off of a strong set of fractions......did quite well to hang on for 2nd at today's same level....she should be a major player

4  Dancinthenightaway   decent shot at getting loose here and her record when loose is stout .........3 wins and a 2nd in 4 starts when.....right guy for the task at hand in speed ride Maldonado

3  Lost Bus   don't have a clue where her last came from as it was so much her best ever winning a Grade 2 at 64 to 1 in 121:3........dislike the word "bounce" but it sure might apply here........but if she doesn't she wins this

race 4    average clarity

6  Short Memories   brutal trip in debut.......settled down in 2nd lifetime start with a smooth since her last are quite a bit improved and suggest she is feeling good........cut back of one half furlong appears to be a plus

7  Tinderette  takes that ever dangerous drop from MSW racing to the bottom MC level available.....and her a.m. work hints she can run much better than she has shown in two dull lifetime races

3  Lady's Discretion   not much support at the windows in MC 40K she likely needed the effort.....drops one level and retains Desormeaux who has teamed up successfully numerous times with buddy Bob Hess in the past

2  Dis Smart Cat

race 5    average clarity

4  Syndicated   last 3 races fit and 2 of them are hidden by tough trips especially his last where he broke tardy from the tough 1 post at 6 1/2F and checked a couple of lengths on the turn......better post today and drops for Jacobson

1  Trelawny   double barrel action from Jacobson as he just claimed this gelding off of a long layoff and he puts his go to guy (so far) in Bejarano....last fits and if he manages more 2nd out after the layoff he might be the one I should have placed on top

8  Wildfire Kid   often the best time to drop is off of long layoffs especially for someone like Miyadi who doesn't show you much in his a.m. preparation with his stock.......seems dangerous

9  John's Journey

Long-shot consideration:   5  Close to the Edge    not much speed signed up (capable of rating too) for a 5 1/2F race and this nine-year old has some......and he has trained of late as if he has discovered the "fountain of youth".....decent history on the SA dirt......trainer is solid 3rd run following layoffs which is the case today

race 6    average clarity

(if stays on the grass   1-4-2-9-14)

1  Map Room   best back to back drills (and only 5 days apart) to finish off the a.m. preparation for a Proctor 1st timer in many a moon........rather convinced this is a nice three-year old debut runner

race 6    below average clarity

(if moved to the main track    4-9-1-13-2)

4  Jimmy Shoes   O'Neill seems to mean business with this 1st time starter with three straight very solid gate works......decent pedigree to handle an off track......and I believe this colt has some early gas

race 7    average clarity

3  Warrensdollarsigns   overwhelming stat to take into consideration in this affair.......Miyadi is 6 for his last 12 dropping off of a win and with the other 6 hitting the board......this mare won for 10K in for 8F today....hard not to put on top

12  Sugar Spice   5 for 9 at the distance and she added a new dimension last time out by winning from 2 lengths off of the pace........prior to that she was a need to lead type...... 3 scratches (so far) help her post position

2  Fast Magoo   most likely leader in this affair with plenty of early speed types but at what cost........but if she gets a good rail day like she had two back her chances sure would be enhanced

11  Funny Gal

Long-shot consideration: 1  Lexie Arleen   improved since her somewhat dull last hints at a rebound....seems likely to get a nice ground saving mid pack or stalking trip.......beat our top choice 2 back albeit in only a 5F affair

race 8    average clarity

5  Denman's Call   very impressive 3rd in his 2nd lifetime start in a Grade 2 running a strong fig at 7F.......cut back of one furlong appears to be a plus.....seems very tough if he holds form

1  Gold Rush Dancer   very consistent (5 2 2 1) on conventional dirt albeit vs. easier at Emd.......but his prolonged work regiment since arriving at SA in mid Jan. is very solid for her new trainer Vann Belvoir......believe he fits fine

4  Mt Veeder    2 for 2 sprinting for Baffert and he won a 75K Stakes like today in Sept. at Lrc in a stout 109:1 which is quite fast for a 2 yr. old in Sept..........and he gets the attention of Bejarano and his agent

race 9    average clarity

6  Easy Going Evening   no action on the board whatsoever 16 to 1 in a 6 horse field) in her MC75K debut for D'Amato and company strongly suggests the race was a gimme.......drops to the bottom and makes a major league rider upgrade to Maldonado who is 5 for his last 10 with 3 others in the money over the last two months with the trainer.....full throttle go today

2  Pridelander   works for this 1st starter sure seem good enough to compete in this soft looking group of maiden claiming competitors....especially if I am all wet about my assessment of the top pick-a-roo

8  Nakoma   beat 4 of 8 foes in her MC debut and did so breaking a little slow and running wide.........decent work since....needs a forward move and might provide one

5  Latina Mo

3  Silent Gambler

4  Cogent
