Santa Anita for Sunday 13 March 2016

OK card to finish off a good week of racing (and results) although I made a brutal last-minute change switching my top selection in The Big Cap to the 2nd selection and he of course he won and paid great. Last minute changes that cost you hurt but then again seldom does one think about the last minute changes for the better that are successful. If you play this game long enough it all kind of evens out it the end................ but............... it sure doesn't feel that way.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Jazzy Cat   lone race was run almost a year ago and it was a near miss in a fast heat of MC30K runners........outside of one gap in his work regiment this Mullins runner seems ready for the rise in class to the MSW ranks.....likely only needs a little more than he displayed last year

1  Tribal Fighter   broke about 8 slow from the metal monster in his MSW debut and then showed plenty of life rushing up down the back-stretch.....see ya Delgadillo.....hello Bejarano......nice preparatory work series to boot

3  Plain Wrap   no support whatsoever at the windows (32 to 1 in a 7 horse field) in debut and still managed 2nd in his MSW debut.......likely fitter today.......Delgadillo lands here

2  Son of a Royal

race 2    average clarity

7  Let the Girl Go   away since August but owns some significant early speed and she is working as if she is returning as an improved filly likely with some additional staying power

4  Warren's Honey Be   not much in last at 6 1/2 furlongs but a solid effort 2 back at today's 5 1/2 furlongs......recent decent 4F drill at SA hints she will rebound to some degree.....fits fine if she does

6  Plus Perfect   works for this Palma 1st timer starter seem dangerous.....very low percentage rider aboard but not when he rides for Palma

9  Back Street Cat

race 3    above average clarity

(if on the turf 1-2-3)

1  Dressed in Hermes   so much the best grass runner in this field that he would have to go off form or get the trip from you know where to not take down this small Stakes race

race 3    average clarity

(if off the turf  5-4-1)

5  Sorryaboutnothing   hated the blinkers put on in last.......race 3 back his only mile dirt race without blinkers is solid here and disguised by a tough trip with about 7L of trip trouble

race 4    average clarity

5  The Custodian   easy to toss out latest as this fellow wants no part of two turn racing......back to 7 furlongs today which is a better fit.....and drops with a very impressive 7F work put in since his last......should be a major player

4  Where's Bubba   needs the lead to perform well so far but he has a decent (seemingly about a 50% chance) of getting it......solid speed bullet drill put in.....trainer has had a very good meeting

7  Gambler's Roll   another who likely needs the front end.....actually believe this fellow has more early speed than our 2nd pick but the bug boy has only one win at the meeting......but.......on the other hand it was for today's trainer

9  Warren's Wesley

race 5   above average clarity

3  Alwazabridesmaid   seems to love the SA surface and she sure responded to the blinkers being put on in her latest..........repeat of that effort takes down this open company F & M nw alw race

2  Black Beauty   believe this Bonde four-year old filly is the speed of the speed in this affair......good move putting speed jock Maldonado back up as he is 1 for 1 on the filly whereas other riders are 0 for 6

6  Conquest Flatterme   caught in a buzz saw in her latest with the wining time being a stellar 108:4.......running a 10 beaten length 3rd wasn't bad......and today we get a major league upgrade

4  Wild At Heart

race 6    average clarity

4  Kill Shot   not too much on the turf......finally gets back on the dirt and at his favorite distance (5 2 2 0)........performs well with ample time between starts and finally gets it.......and drops a notch......trainer has been firing on all cylinders

3  Oligarch   seems like now or never for this declining eight year old......last might have been nothing more than an endurance building muscle him run on the grass as only the sod can do sometimes......we shall see

7  Apollo   big wake up in latest and the effort is disguised by a bad trip........and likely feeling even better for Carava to step him up one notch and bring him back in short rest for a 2nd straight race

1  Serbian Syclone

race 7    average clarity

7  Inexcess Time   Walter Solis has started few at the meeting but most of them have fired rather well.......last two races run were also at seven panels and both fit well in today's lower level spot........works are very solid over at LA especially considering the level of racing

6  My Ole Bud   back in only 8 days off of a vastly improved MC graduating run is somewhat bothersome.....but if this gelding can hold form he should be dominate from the get go and be awfully tough to wheel in

3  Wrightwood   new trainer takes over and maybe with the agreement (this is often the case with a trainer switch) that his new shooter must compete where he can win (now) or no deal........lookout if that is the case......bug boy has won 3 of his last 4 teaming up with Cerin

4  Rolo Tamaci

race 8   below average clarity

3  Power Foot   appreciates the 12 furlong distance on the grass and seems likely to sit in a nice ground saving mid pack position......and he gets a significant rider upgrade.....hard not to see him being in the mix late when push comes to shove

2  Quick Casablanca  very solid in both his marathon races especially the one run at Santa Anita.......and both are better than appear in print......runs all day long and a little give to the turf (slower projected final time) should benefit his chances of getting up in time

7  Havanna Belle   filly gets in light and she should be forwardly placed.......good ride by Blanc in her last at 1 1/2 on the turf winning vs easier......but the fig was decent........wouldn't take much of a forward move to be part of this

11  Big John B

race 9    average clarity

7  Navy Hymm   laid up since August.......but.......blinkers off.....1st time gelding........1st time Bejarano which is quite the rider upgrade.......all strongly suggests that this O"Neill three year old racing for the lowest MC level of his life is very well-meant in his return to the wonderful world that is Thoroughbred racing

8  Deputy Dane   another 1st time gelding with at top trainer at the helm........and the works sure have been vastly improved of late hinting the ultimate equipment change has been successful and that much more will occur today for this D;Amato youngster

4  Six S Street   don't know why in the heck Yakteen is using one of the lowest percentage riders on the grounds but this 1st timer is training too well to ignore......late rider change would be nice.......if not....... come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Felipe

11  Gone With It

1  El Koreano

3  I Am the Colonel
