Santa Anita for Thursday 24 March 2016

Less than 6 days to take advantage of the early bird sign-up for Kentucky Derby Day full card selections (or save a bundle and purchase all 5 special pubs for 2016) and save 5 dollars.

Seems like an average Thursday card to start the new weeks of racing.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Anda   on the improve with every start and his last is somewhat disguised because of the very strong pace he had to deal with especially for a MC2oK......and very sharp of late in the a.m.....should be tough from the get go and formidable if he can handle the challenge of his 1st route

6  Selection   turf sprint tune-up.....full throttle go routing on the dirt......last 3 route dirt races fit.....does tend to hang in the stretch

2  Walking On Water   decent efforts in all three lifetime starts which were all sprints.....1st long with an OK pedigree to handle one.......1st out following the Miller claim and Miller has won at a 24% clip 1st out following a claim with his last 170......not to shabby

1  Feynman

race 2    below average clarity

2  Warrensdollarsigns   solid gate to wire win in last and seems likely to grab the front end once again today......sharp recent 4F work.......should be the one to overcome

5  I'm No Patsy   last two efforts route to sprint easily stand out as her best two efforts in 5 2016 races.......route in her last........a sprint today.........and with a rider upgrade,,,,,,,,seems likely to get a nice stalking trip

3  Smooth Talker   believe O'Neill didn't like what he saw following the 16K claim on Feb 5th.......so....... he has given this mare some time off and put in a decent series of works......and drops one level.......dangerous

race 3    average clarity

2  Faithfully  last fits fine but the effort this Baffert trainee put forth two back would make him awfully stout here.........the meets top gun stays aboard

5  Georgia Blue    nice forward move in 2nd lifetime start........and the fact that his latest was run at 7F bodes well for his chances of handling the eight panels this afternoon

3  Shazara   broke slow and then checked a couple of lengths in dirt MSW debut........showed plenty of life after that......trainer is oh so much more dangerous with 2nd time starters........see ya Smith.......say hello to the other elder statesman in Stevens

1  Dancing Ava

race 4    average clarity

8  Flaming Vixen   MC debut 2 back is much better than appears in print and probably was the impetus for her placement in a MSW race in her 2nd start......in her debut she broke slowly and was way back with a slow pace up front but she sure closed extremely well......been away since Sept. but working as if she is as good as new with maybe some more speed put into her......major leagur rider upgrade

2  All for Charity   decent MC debut at today's level way back in May at today's level.....returns with a much more successful trainer at the helm and can't be claimed.....so the incentive for being ready fresh is significant

4  The Cat's Leavin   solid work regiment for this Headley 1st timer and Mr. Headley is quite dangerous with MC 1st timers.....this filly likely has some early gas with Maldonado getting the mount

3  No Minimums

race 5    average clarity

9  Amboseli   beat 11 of 12 foes in her debut in France which happened to be a key race........beat 14 0f 15 foes in an 8 month layoff run in France last July and again in a key race........1st race in the USA today is off a 4 1/2 month layoff........not sure she is ready but if she is she is the one to beat here

10  Dressed to a T   on the right end of the learning curve and the positive trend seems likely to continue as she just worked a vastly improve drill which was a near bullet 6F 112:3 only 6 days ago........feeling awfully good

3  Gift of a Star   fired decent efforts in all five lifetime races with her very best in her last with the switch to T C Baze from Blanc.......Baze remains up today.......Ron (Hall of Fame) McAnally has yet to win but 7 of his 9 starters have been in the money

7  Hiking

race 6    average clarity

6  Malibu Rum Run   on the improve with every start for Hollendorfer and company and her preparatory 5F drill on 18 March hints the trend stays intact this afternoon........very tough here if I am correct in my assessment

3  Esmeralda Belle   fairly competitive in all 4 lifetime races last Sprint/Summer in MSW affairs......returns off of a long layoff in a 50K maiden claimer.....drop makes sense and Jorge Periban has won with 3 of his last 10 MSW to MC

9  Redeeming Quality   decent MC debut at today's level.......should fit just fine if this four-year old filly builds upon the effort

1  Basie Boots

race 7    average clarity

4  Tough But Nice   solid time in winning his latest but what really impressed me was how soft of a hand ride he won with.........1st at a route today but owns a pedigree that should handle the one mile distance....hard not to place in the top spot

3  Go Long   could have won the version of this race in his latest on 19 Feb. if he wasn't blocked so badly in the stretch.......Kent Deormeaux with be out to make amends to his brother Keith today

9  Warden of the West   N.Y. invader is 2 for 2 on fast rated dirt.......shows up in the Truman barn and the meetings top gun accepts the mount.......sure seems dangerous in his 1st start some 2500 miles from his old home

7  Mineyerownmalone

race 8    average clarity

1  Armored Car   1st out following the O'Neill claim in last and his new trainer might have the trump card for this gelding as this fellow made a significant move forward on the dirt .........and the effort is disguised as this gelding dueled in solid pace on a dull inside......did extremely well to hang on for 2nd.......smartly steps up and gets 1st time Bejarano.......back to the grass for this fellow which he does handle....should be in the mix from the get go

5  Mostinterestingman    decent MSW debut on the grass especially considering this Mullins runner went off at 27 to 1 in an 8 horse field....that suggests this 4 yr old wasn't all the wound up for his debut and should be more fit for today's high-priced maiden claimer

4  Specimen   useful layoff sprint run at GG in last finally getting out of the gate decently in his 3rd lifetime start...........3 nice endurance building 5F works since.......attempts a route today at SA and he has a pedigree that screams "the longer the better".......takes a logical drop out of MSW racing......dangerous

3  Spitfire

8  Alaskan Cruise

6  Et Toi
