Santa Anita for Sunday 5 June 2016

Don't miss out on purchasing full card selections for Belmont Stakes on June 11th. 13 race card with the smallest purse on the card $90,000. Six Grade 1 races - two Grade 2 races - one Grade 3 race. Full card selections will be sent to your email on Friday evening.

Good card today. Let's call it a 7 on the 1 to 10 scale of things

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Hunt   talk about on the right end of the learning curve........and he sure is a smooth looking runner on the majestic SA hill course.......jock's been rather "smooth" as well since returning from injury

5  Act   scratched out of Saturday for this..........way short fig wise vs. others in here but he sure appears to be on a loose lead and with Stevens milking the pace.....lone mount on the card for the Hall of Fame jockey

3  Toowindytohaulrox   very solid down the hill with a Grade 3 win.......a Grade 2 3rd...... and a record of ( 6 2 1 3) overall.......but the race shape doesn't appear to be very favorable for his way out of it early style

race 2    above average clarity

6  Giant Expectations   hard to believe this youngster has not graduated yet as he sure has run 4 strong lifetime races where he has had troubled trips in all of them.......some of his own making and some not......blinkers on today to help him focus

3  Arrogate   solid better than par effort in his MSW at Lrc in mid April.......4 fast and tightly spaced drills in May seemingly has him all cranked up again.......expensive purchase appears fully ready and the owners didn't shell out over 1/2 Mil to be a sprinter.....should be a major player

2  Ziconic   strong improvement in last for this Zenyatta baby.......yet another with a solid effort/number......placed 3rd mostly because this deep closer had a solid pace to close into in his last and he might not here

race 3    average clarity

1  Little Mustard   4 of his 7 lifetime starts sure fit well vs. this weak looking group.....fell off in latest but wisely given some time off to get things together.....retains the red-hot Prat.....should be a major factor here despite not the best of posts

5  Donjiislucky   solid improvement in latest 1st time out with Steve Knapp as the trainer.....back in micro rest of only 6 days....has a shot if he can cope with the rigors of such a brief break

6  Lucky Tommy   appears to be running into shape and might move forward again.......would have considered as the 2nd choice if I wasn't concerned about his ability to run as far as 7F

2  Bistro Lights

race 4    average clarity

2  Shysheisnot   seems likely to get the same stalk position which nearly led to victory in her last which was also down the in 1 & 7 (both weak speed types) bang heads and he eventual takes over the lead and tries to hold off the Calvary charge

6  Doodetta  popped his best ever down the hill in last overcoming some trouble and still winning....that was his 1st endeavor following the Miller bullet work since hints he has held form

3  With a Twist   ultra consistent grass runner but in routes........last at GG is quite strong and against better........can he sprint as well......Mike Smith and his agent likely think so

5  Fruity

race 5    average clarity

6  Bundeslige   Baffert doesn't debut many maiden claimers but amazingly he has an even higher win percentage with them than his MSW 1st timers .......seems ready at 1st asking and doesn't face much

2  Asian Sun   two lifetime off track efforts fit.....his only fast track effort does not.......but than again his "fast" effort was at Lrc......the off track races were at SA.....maybe it is the track and not the track condition

4  Jason X L   not much so far in two lifetime races.......but he was pounded at the windows in his last.....blinkers off and Bejarano on......deserving of one more chance?

1  Chanito

race 6    average clarity

9  Blackjackcat   nasty trip in MSW dirt debut running wide up on a solid pace......did awfully well to only get beat by 2 1/2 lengths for the win...........see ya Quinonez.......hello Mike Smith.....1st on the turf today for this three-year old  but he owns a pedigree that should handle it

5  Giant Influence    dueled in a strong set of fractions and still almost won his debut in the same race as our top pick.......and like our top choice he is bred to handle the green carpet

6  Scuderia   nice awakening in 2nd lifetime start in his 1st on the sod in a race down the hill.....last might do the trick but a move forward would be nice

2  Airlite

race 7    average clarity

10  Dustin's Passion   race lacks speed and this gelding has you know Pedroza will be all out to get it........dangerous gate to wire contender

1  Misdeed   earned a solid adjusted for being wide fig in latest which was at a route........two impressive drills since.....should come flying late with plenty of endurance coming off of route races

6  Celebrity Status   seems likely to sit 2nd or 3rd (maybe even lead) in a race that appears to favor those close up in the early stages

3  Black Tie

Long-shot consideration:   5  Warren's Rail Bird   last sprint which was two races back was a fast heat of 8K claimers fact although this fellow ran 5th his effort was better than par.....might come flying late at a monster of a price with the light weight bug boy up

race 8    above average clarity

1  Annie's Candy  had to face Nyquist 3 times and actually out ran him once despite losing by a head.......seems best at SA and sure is training as if the long hiatus from the game won't be a problem

6  Who's Out   when last seen in August he fired a 7+ length win earning a strong number and like our top pick-a-roo he sure is working as if he is meant and ready fresh off of the bench

3  Navy Hymn   2nd-2nd-2nd-1st-1st-1st-1st to start career and recently he sure is getting good fast successfully stepping up the class ladder......can he do it again

race 9    below average clarity

3  Image of Joplin   has run well off of breaks in the past and he sure has been facing tougher.......lone race done the hill is OK........only mount of the day for Talamo.......seems dangerous if he is ready fresh and the fact Joe is here for one mount in the nightcap hints he is

4  Rangi   following a long hiatus from racing Rangi appears to be rounding into form........and he is back in relatively short rest and with Raffy sticking around.......seems like a good sign of health........when he is right he has brilliant early money earner down the hill in this group

8  Infinite Magic   like the trainer change for today and with the trainer change comes a new rider in Prat who has been dynamite with his turf mounts.....a pleasure to watch his ability

7  Pray Hard

6  Atta Boy Pete

9  Eddie's Travel
