Santa Anita for Sunday 19 June 2016

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there! Stay cool both literally and figuratively speaking!

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

8  Secreto Primero   got himself eligible in his last for this affair in a maiden breaking win and luckily wasn't claimed (well most likely luckily)......should be in the hunt from the get go

2  Bronzino   goofy spot in last as this French bred four year old is not bred whatsoever for the dirt....back to the grass.....let's hope his dirt race didn't beat him up too much as his lone U S of A grass effort sure fits well

1  New Summit   nice awakening in last with 1st time blinkers in a race down the hill.......distance is a ? mark but not so much with an impressive 111:3H drill put in one week ago

5  All Star Parade

Long-shot consideration:   3  Red Car Mac    trained well prior to debut which was only so so.......and trained well after his MSW debut and won as our top choice......continues to train like he has talent and might have learned a lot in his last with his win......and...... I like his pedigree to handle the sod....the distance is more of the ? mark

race 2   below average clarity

1  Grass and Cactus   both efforts at Tup fit fine number wise here......and he lands in barn that is rather hot these days following a prolonged slump

7  I'd Be Sad an Blue   wide run in last or could have been much closer at the wire in his last which was his 2nd lifetime start.......gelded and blinkers on for today and with an improved drill put in just 4 days ago......last fits and the changes might have improved him

5  Amazing Love   dangerous looking 1ster for Myadi and company as his last 5F gate drill is rather decent for an early summer maiden claiming 2 year old debut runner

6  Mo Soul

race 3    average clarity

4  Long Hot Summer    ultra consistent racing on the grass or the AW (7 4 2 0 1) trainer combo and that combo seems even more significant here as Talamo has been up for all 8 lifetime starts for this D'A runner who is appropriately named for today

8  Singing Kitty   best with today's rider Bejarano on firm grass and......and at her best at today's 8 furlongs .....hard not to see her as a major player in this spot

7  My Year Is a Day   Blanc to Prat on a D'Amato runner.......sure like that change......layoff sprint tune-up in last should have her ready for a top effort at a route this afternoon

6  Off the Road

race 4    average clarity

7  Sweetwater Gal   exits an extremely fast MSW where she broke a little tardy and ran a little too wide........that effort despite being beat 11L fits here...... and .......since Ellis is vastly better with 2nd time starters more can be expected today

4  Holiday Movie   like the small drop down from MSW racing to MC75K ........and she appears to be better suited to a sprint.....3 reassuring 5F works since her last hints she has remained in form

5  Audacious Angel   another dropping out of MSW races......6 1/2F seems like a very good fit......and I almost always like when Bejarano rides for Truman

3  Royal Flush Babe

race 5    average clarity

5  Spanish Hombre   both lifetime sprint races (and run at SA) fit solidly here.....and it appear his turf endeavor in his latest muscled him up .........if his bullet 4F drill is worth a hoot

2  Cee the Preacher   pounded at the windows in his 2nd lifetime start and 1st with blinkers but ran poorly...... likely getting hurt in the race as was laid up after......trying blinkers once again today and the works are very good........hmmm

1  Yes Master   strong race at today's MC40K level way back in since and he is not eligible to be claimed so it is highly likely he has returned ready to roll......rider upgrade......very dangerous

4  Alaskan Cruise  (tie for 4th)

7  Rideo    (tie for 4th)

race 6    average clarity

1  Cover Song   expensive purchase won like a good thing in her 2nd lifetime start and 1st on the grass and did so off of a 10 month layoff......1st at a route and is she ever bred to be better "long"  than short.....Gaines could use a quality runner in her barn and might have one here

8  Patriotic Diamond   tons of talent when this Cal-bred brings her "A game"...... and she is likely the one to overcome if she does......1st time running for Cassidy who has won 2 of his last dozen when that is the case

3  Not Now Carolyn   might be speed of the speed and lookout if she is as the cut back in distance should help her "staying power" even if the fractions are fairly fast

9  Sweet Queen

race 7    average clarity

3  Ain't Misbehavin   seems like a good claim and a smart step up of multiple levels by trainer Steven Miyadi as this four year old ran an extremely solid race in an 8K last out.....and he draws Prat

2  No Contingency   small drop helps (20K down to 16K) as does his high level of early speed which appears to be the best in this field

4  Justonemorething   might sit pretty stalking the lead from the 2 or 3 does the rail appear today so far because in the past when the temp is above 100 degrees at SA the rail has quite often been a little dull

5  My Samurai Warrior

race 8    average clarity

(NOTE:   last turf race at SA until the Fall)

1  Lady Valeur   2 for 2 on firm turf racing at today's 9 furlong distance.....and those two wins were by an average of over 3 lengths and with more assigned weight than today.....that'll do

6  Be Mine   also 2 for 2 on firm turf but at shorter distances.....but.....she retains Prat on her back and she sure acts as if the longer distance will be to her liking......and she has the right turf trainer in the "D'A" to get the job done

4  Decked Out   1 for 1 at the distance on the grass and by my book she just popped her best work of her life and for a trainer in Desormeaux who doesn't push them too hard in the mornings

3  Stays in Vegas

race 9    average clarity

5  Cheap O Charlie   all three lifetime dirt sprint races when not wearing blinkers are a fit in this MC20K.......and I like the route to sprint scenario......should have improved endurance when push comes to shove

13  Bundesliga   stewards scratch on 5 June but this Baffert 1st timer worked decently since.....but he went over to LA for the work.....that suggests Baffert wanted to hide this drill from the SA clockers/trainers to some degree......hard to tell if that is a good thing or a bad thing.....we shall see

9  Dig For Gold   useful debut in last and it is better than appears in print.....gelded since and a rider upgrade......surely has the right to improve today and that is a dangerous thing if he gets a better trip

7  My Son John

12  Make A Million

11  Big Bad Batman
