Santa Anita for Thursday 30 June 2016

Decent card today with some crazy race conditions to draw as many entries as possible without the help of having a grass course to run on.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    above average clarity

2  Eight Spokes   seems highly likely to sit in a nice stalk position behind our 2nd selection.......such a deal with Bejarano the one in the drivers seat who can get first crack at the 1 horse

1  Atta Boy Pete   race lacks speed and he sure appears to be the most likely to be loose and lonely on the front end.....he has been flattening out of late and the 6 1/2F offered here might be a little further than he wants for his best.....but then again....... Maldonado loves the front end

3  Pulmarack   should be motoring late especially if he receives more pace than anticipated which should come from our top two choices and maybe the 4 horse

race 2    above average clarity

5  Kay Kay   only 6 1/2 beaten lengths to the best filly in the universe in Songbird in her latest.........that'll do

1  Emmzy   very impressive in her last in her 1st ever going a route of ground.......that effort like our top selection is better than par for today's given level......Mike Smith remains aboard and it is his lone mount on the card

2  My Foolish Hart    good-looking new shooter from Chicago for Ed Moger......filly appears to be a fit here if she can run as well on the lightning fast SA dirt as she did on the slow off track she graduated on at Haw.....have my doubts as that's a tough transition but you never know

race 3    average clarity

3  May B   bad trip in last kept this six-year-old from winning his 4th straight (cheap horse went off a ridiculously 1 to 9)......speed jock Maldonado will be out to make amends........gelding has 3 wins and 1 2nd in 4 starts "at the distance"

2  Peacenik   this is a good example Bill Spawr at his best.......laid up claimer (following a claim way back in November) is working like a higher class animal and his fresh body (despite being a 9-year-old) is all set to pop a big effort

5  Four Gaels   very sharp right now at LA and he sure knows how to compete as he has been in the exacta 17 out 26 lifetime.......5 1/2F seems doable.......decent post.......deserving of this shot at the "big track"......high % trainer

race 4    above average clarity

5  Lord Snow   disappointed in his two lifetime races last summer/fall......but he seemingly is returning to the race wars as a vastly improved runner if his stout a.m. prowess in worth a hoot......Glatt is dynamite with laid up sprinters......route here but still appears very ready and dangerous

4  Trinitas Soldier   easy to toss out his last which was run on a sloppy track......previous two races are strong for today's lower level......been away almost 3 months but Periban has his maiden training awfully well

3  Benardjfortunato    smartly steps up following a wide trip 2nd at a couple of levels lower.....sharp 3F speed work since......seems likely to sit much closer to the front and might even get loose......so.....dangerous

race 5    average clarity

5  Blue Over You   Spawr starts very few MSW debut runners.......but.....he has won 2 of his last 6 and has this two-year old filly training as if she is meant and ready to roll......and mom has tossed 3 winners from 3 starters

7  Alpenhorn   Cal-bred filly took on the boys in mid April in her MSW debut and almost beat them in solid final time.......would easily have been top selection if her work regiment since wasn't a little sporadic

9  Start to Finish   take a look at two of this debut runner's works.......23 May bullet 4F work at SA......and her near bullet gate work at SA one week ago on 23 June.....she has talent and might be ready to display it today

2  Scavenger Hunt

race 6    average clarity

6  American League   last 4 efforts run on conventional dirt all fit and his last 3 are disguised.......his latest is the most hidden of them all as he dueled inside on a very bad rail day at Lrc and predictably cashed it in.....and he runs as a 1st time gelding today and with the blinkers......so how are his recent works?......answer:  impressive and then some

2  Tough But Nice  has slipped some recently but I believe a rebound is in the cards as whereas he worked a series of 4F works prior to his last endeavor he now has been able to put in 3 5F works hinting he is doing better.....and if he is.......lookout

3  Glory Bound   fits the condition of this race very well if he can manage the transition of switching from a steady diet of route racing to a sprint......at least today's sprint is at the extended sprint distance of 7F

race 7    average clarity

4  Spirit Rules   needs the lead and sure appears to be the front-runner in this spot.....most likely his route grass race in latest was nothing more of an endurance building tune-up for today....last win (4 races back) was loose on the lead at today's 6 1/2F distance

2  Kenjisstorm   seems quite likely to sit in a nice stalk position ready to pounce on our top selection if he falters.......very stout of late in the a.m.....and Stevens wants the mount......hmmm

7  Texas Two Step   likely sharp running off of his 1st ever (and quite good) grass race......recent bullet breeze at Slr supports the notion......should be motoring late if he gets an adequate pace in which to close into

5  Pay the Fine

race 8    below average clarity

1  Goliath's Girl   last fits and the works since strongly suggest that the same or better will occur this afternoon ......and the highest percentage post in sprints at SA this meet is?   the one post... ......somebody should remind the folks on TVG  (who consistently overstate the fear of the one hole in sprints) of that stat......and it seems to me that barns (not mentioning any names) that draw it with their 1st timers in races past 5 1/2F often give their horse's a race which only perpetuates the over blown fear of it......with that said.........I might have put the jinx on this filly

8  Too Much Drama  Dan Blacker got his 1st win in 2016 the other day and he now has a shot at making his win percentage respectable (as in 2 for 21) with this filly who showed life in her MC debut and now drops a couple of levels

7  Cogent   much better running off of short rest.......83 to 1 tune-up in last......back in 13 days......much better effort today is highly likely......to what degree is the ? mark

2  Silver Oak

5  Snobby Brummie

6   Lisa's Joy
