Del Mar for Wednesday 27 July 2015

OK card today. Let's call it a 6.5 on the 1 to 10 scale of things.

My apologies for not responding to many of the non-essential emails since the start of Del Mar. This is because of the large fields and 5 days a week racing that cause me to get I get swamped. Thanks for your understanding and by all means keep sending those informative emails which for the most part I enjoy.

Best of luck as always!

race 1   below average clarity

1  Toomanytomatoes   should welcome a return to her favorite dirt surface......decent chance that 2 & 5 will go after the lead and "tomatoes" can sit in a nice ground saving stalk position

3  Quinnette   by far at her best on conventional dirt as she has been in the exacta 15 of 23 starts.......a little hidden in latest running 3 wide on a good rail day........not my favorite dirt rider but he has done well with this gal

5  Kristinite   drops.....likes Del Mar.......and owns a good history at the distance........but she might (I emphasis might) not be at her best this afteronnon as her history with more than 30 days off is not that good

race 2    average clarity

4  Amazing Love   two-year old colt broke about 3 slow in debut and then didn't show too much.........he broke 4 slow in his 2nd start and then showed some life closing into a very slow pace up front.......Prat stays up and why not as the Miyadi horses he has ridden have been live......should be tough if Prat gets him out of the gate better

2  Westmont   trapped on a slightly dull rail and checked on the turn in a somewhat hidden MSW debut ......drops into MC and gets a rider upgrade (I thinks).....sharp gate work at Dmr.......seems ready for a solid early speed effort

1  Enter the Code   MSW debut is better than appears in print and the trainer is horrendous with 1st time starters......drops and add blinkers.....very impressive gate work......and a major league jockey upgrade

8  Downside Up

race 3    average clarity

5  Diabolical Dame   deservedly gets out of New Mexico to take a shot at the toughest racing (these days) in the U S of A.........fantastic consistency ( 14 10 4 0) and she showed that she can handle Del Mar as she just worked a bullet 5F drill a week ago on the Dmr surface.......nice layoff easy 9L win in last vs easier......the perfect stress free layoff run.....she likely feels great for her 2nd out after a long layoff

3  Bendable   good final times and has an abundance of early speed.....and a very stout rider/trainer combo......solid shot to make it 3 for 3 lifetime especially if the "small circuit" invader is intimated by the top competition that exists in S Cal

1  Luminance   broke a couple slow and was still only 3L off the leaders in what was a brutal pace.....so she had a pace factor as well........not too shabby following an extended layoff from the game.......not out of this by any means with a better trip and logical forward move

7  Lily Pod

race 4    below average clarity

(AE 9  Rangi   has a shot if draws in from the AE list)

5  Jazzy Josh   good race last year at Dmr in a 5F turf race and if he is up for similar today he has a good chance to close from mid pack and close past them all

6  Go Vo   bad ride in his last in a race at CD at 5F on the grass and at the same claiming level......claimed by Hartman who is much better than average 1st out following a claim

2  Wildfire Kid    very consistent races 5F to 6 1/2F with blinkers........seems very sharp right now and would have been top choice if the bug boy didn't have such a dismal record on the sod.....although..... if an apprentice is ever going to break thru a bad turf history (0 for 23) on the sod it would be at the 5F distance

3  Sacred Ovation

race 5    average clarity

4  Leveler   exits two consecutive fast heats running 2nd and 3rd with not the best of trips......would have rated this race "above average clarity" if this was another sprint but it is at 8 furlongs and her pedigree is a little questionable as far as getting two turns is concerned.......definite has the right trainer to get the added distance out of her

2  Little Dume   nice forward move in second lifetime start......rider upgrade......unlike our top selection she owns solid route breeding......should be in the hunt from the get go

8  Sid the Squid   exits a very fast heat of mid priced maiden claimers.......Sherman smartly gets her out of MC for her 2nd starts and sends her a route which she is bred decently to handle.....and he retains Desormeaux......and these days Kent is one intelligent jock with a ton of riding ability

6  She's a Warrior

race 6    average clarity

1  Do the Dance   just fired lifetime best (and better than par for today's level) with a switch to 1st time Baze who does well with speed/stalkers on the sod......3 year old filly has won on the Del Mar sod.......nice series off 4 works in preparation for today's race.......rather sure she's ready for another strong effort

6  Papa Mambo   graduated in her last with not the best of work tabs  with 1st time blinkers.......but since then she has trained night and day better for one hot trainer in Koriner.........1st long and 1st on the turf......OK pedigree for both

7  Watch This Cat   seems best on firm turf and the turf should be plenty firm this afternoon......1 for 1 at today's 1 1/16th distance on firm turf......trainer/jock over the last two months are 8 for 27 win (30%) and 74% in the money

5  Lob City

race 7    average clarity

5  Tribal Fighter    talk about a three-year old that is maturing.....1st start: broke 8 slow and rushed showing good speed and tired of course.....2nd start:   blinkers put on - broke 2 slow and still was able to lead and win a very key race.......3rd start broke fine and wired winning an abbreviated 5F race by 6L......likely would have won by 10 or 12L if the race was 6F

10  Taman Guard   three-year old gelding has done little wrong in 3 lifetime starts......works at Del Mar are stellar as his MSW 108:3 debut at Lrc.....that hints that the SA dirt might not be his favorite circuit.....if that is the case he has some big league potential today

7  Mrazek   hard to argue about his prowess in S Cal (7 3 4 0) and he is one for one at Del Mar.....why rated 3rd then?.......Guttierez has been getting away with taking him 3 or 4 wide ( 4 races in a row) and if he does that he sure appears vulnerable

2  Smokey Image

Long-shot consideration:   9  Tough But Nice   has been getting beat of late by many in here but he sure appears to love the Dmr dirt crushing in his debut and now working lights out for his 2nd lifetime endeavor on it's surface.......and the rider knows him well having been aboard for all of his 8 lifetime races

race 8    average clarity

3  Money Makin Mike   nice works since the Knapp claimed.....and the trainer wisely takes the blinkers off as this fellow's last without them is strong.......Knapp has turned into a very strong conditioner these days 1st after a claim.........9 for his last 30 with a strong return for ones investment

4  Candy Cowboy   away from the game for 1 3/4 years........likely only a portion of what he was but he drops from MSW to mdn20K and has been gelded since his debut.......bred decently to get a route........Mullins and company are dangerous with these kind of "retread" types

8  Gavination   speed of the speed and a positive rider change......lead type only is 0 for 9 and his trainer is 1 for 2 for the year or would have rated higher

7  Alston

9  Ring Collector

12  He's a Knockout
