Del Mar for Saturday 30 July 2016

Decent results yesterday. Not the easiest of cards to decipher today especially early on.

Best of luck always!

race 1    below average clarity

10  Skookum Spirit   wide trip in last or had a shot at the winners circle at one claiming notch higher......blinkers off and that is usually a good move when Miyadi is the one making it......and Miyadi is off to a hot start at the new meeting

8  Footloos Indy Lane   36 to 1 off the layoff in a 7 horse race suggests the race was badly needed and it wasn't that bad......2nd out after the layoff and a rider upgrade.......likely needs to move forward 5 or 6 lengths and I believe he can

9  Resistanceisfutile   another who appears to have needed his last and gets a rider change for the better.....solid work at Del Mar since his last indicates he exited his layoff run in good shape

5  Legitimate

race 2    below average clarity

6  Papacoolpapacool   works since his last indicated he benefited from the effort and is likely to regain his early 2015 form.......should sit a distant 2nd or 3rd saving ground most of the way.......and that is a dangerous thing the way Bejarano can get the most out of a grass horse from off the pace

2  Cape Wolf   blinkers on should help this gelding sit closer to our 3rd selection likely stalking him and with Prat up who has easily gotten the most out of this fellow of anyone who has been on him

1  Lieutenant Colonel   highly likely to get loose in this spot whether he takes to the grass or not......tough to tell if he will appreciate the sod as I have mixed feelings about his grass pedigree....but lookout if he does

race 3    average clarity

1  Honor and Courage   solid series of tightly spaced works for this Hollendofer 1st timer......and it is rather impressive that this colt but in a 5F drill just 3 days ago......feeling good

6  Big League   another 1st timer who looks "meant and ready".......and I sure like that Miller finished off of work regiment with three straight gate drills.......and mom has tossed 4 winners from 4 starters who all preciously were able to graduate at two

3  Blame Joe   Mulhall isn't all that dangerous with 1st time starters but the works are too good to ignore.....and she puts her go to guy in Pedroza up

7  What'sontheagenda

race 4    average clarity

1  Who's Out   two powerful wins in 4 lifetime starts....one was run in his 2nd lifetime start at Dmr off of 4 weeks rest.....and the other 2nd out after a layoff off of 3 weeks........5 weeks rest for today ..... and 4 works since his last...... sure suggest he brings his very stout "A game" once again today

3  Conquest Cobra   sure took to the bug boy in his latest running his career best......and he might have quite a bit left in tank when push comes to shove with the cut back of one furlong

7  Well Measured   a perfect 3 for 3 when competing "fresh" off of the bench......away since September.......and 1 for 1 on the new Del Mar dirt .....and...... the race was at today's somewhat specialized 7F distance

2  Power Jam

race 5    average clarity

7  Seventh Sense    works prior to his 1st grass race were rather dull......and works since that effort are vastly improved including 2 works on the Del Mar grass.......has the pedigree to handle turf.....deserves another shot on it

2  Tribalist   (4 2 1 1) lifetime over 3 years time....running for the 1st time in 2016 and has the perfect spot at 5F on the Del Mar turf.....as his lone race in 2015 was at 5F and quite impressive.....one and done type so you know Heap wants him fully ready to today

10  Roy H   bit of a goof at times (like his 1st 5F turf race at Dmr last summer where he found about 6L of trouble and still ran 2nd in a very impressive bad trip effort) so running as a 1st time gelding and blinkers back on might really help.....plenty of potential today

6  Eric the Trojan

race 6    average clarity

(AE  11   Miss Sunset  has a shot if draws into the field)

4  Princess Roi   Richard Baltas is only average with 1st time starters but his two year old new shooter is working quite well and seems to have peaked at the right time as she worked out of the gate at Del Mar ( a bullet) as fast as 2 year old state-bred filly maidens often run in a race to win

5  R Sunday Surprise   full sister to California Chrome gives her plenty of upside potential for her 2nd lifetime start and her debut wasn't bad.....blinkers on today in all likelihood to get her moving better early....very dangerous 2nd time starter

3  Dreamy Gal   mom has tossed two winners from three to start and they were both Stakes winners......bit sporadic work wise but does show some quick gate drills now and then......and Mullins shows signs of awakening

10  Veiled Heat

race 7    average clarity

7  Desert Madame   easy paced wire to wire win in last earning a solid fig but maybe more importantly she has a good chance to fire another strong effort following a seemingly stress-free win....and she can rate which gives Baze options

1  Take It Easy Please   ran 2nd to our top choice in latest but beat her 3 races back at today's one mile distance which suites her better as he often flattens out at anything further......and she is consistent ........part of the exacta 10 of 15 on conventional dirt

4  Gift of a Star   took to the dirt in her latest her 1st time on it.....might get a dream trip stalking (or sitting mid pack) saving ground thru turn 1.......and her two drills on the Dmr dirt hints she should appreciate the surface and is feeling good

5  Gracie Ragazza

Long-shot consideration:   3  Audacious Angel   filly constantly draws top jocks and does again today.....lone lifetime route race is her best effort ever and disguised by a wide trip on a strong rail bias day at SA......15 to 1 ML with Prat....you don't get that too often

race 8    average clarity

1  Beholder   might be at her very bet on the new Del Mar dirt and that is one scary proposition for her competiton

2  Stellar Wind   one terrific four year old filly but unfortunately has Beholder and likely (in the future) Songbird to cope with......not impossible but plenty has to go her way

race 9    average clarity

1  Royalist   2 of 3 lifetime one mile turf routes fit and one of them is disguised.......like the 2 recent 5F works instead of all the 4F works Belvoir put into his six year old previously since the start of the year......that tells me more finishing ability/endurance can occur today

2  Bronzino   trainer has had a good year with limited starters.....both one mile grass races run in the USA for this fellow are a little short of what it takes here but today we get a rider upgrade.........likely feeling good for Prat to take the mount.....so more horse/better rider add up to a runner that fits now

8  Forey    solid 6L win at Del. on the grass to break her maiden at 1st asking......ends up in the Sadler barn and appears ready to attempt to take advantage of the win 1st in for added purse money

4  Seattle Boom

Long-shot consideration:   6  Aeon   significant forward move in 2nd lifetime race....so.....2nd out following a layoff is likely a good thing and the recent 1:11 flat drill at Del Mar supports the notion.......adequate route and turf pedigree......bombs away if he can handle his 1st attempt at both

race 10    average clarity

1  Night Badger   believe Del Mar to be his best dirt surface and it sure shows in the a.m. as he has rattled off 2 straight bullet works......good trainer/rider combo in Palma/Pena......needs to break well as he has 3 consecutive bad starts after many races with very good starts including 3 from the one hole

3  Boompa   very strong figs in 3 of last 4 with few reason's not the believe he won't run another.....but he needs to stop hanging in the stretch

7  Dream It Do It   rather tough to judge where the horses coming out of New Mexico fit but this four year old seems placed well to me in a $16K nw2 races......and......5 1/2 furlongs is a good fit

6  El Koreano

9  Gramsson

2  Suavemente
