Santa Anita for Saturday 1 October 2016

Please check your calendar as there are 2 days left in 2016 that we are not covering and they come up rather soon.

Fabulous Saturday race card today.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Colonel Samsen   nice 2nd in a $130K maiden race at KD......the maidens were very stout this Fall at KD with the giant purse money for horses that had never won.....and it seems like a nice deal that Geroux remains up as he is in this weekend enticed by some bit Stakes races on today's card

3  Arch Prince   solid forward move in 2nd lifetime start and the effort is disguised by way too wide of a trip and it was in a Stakes jock up today and Perez is 2 for his last 3 for Val Brinkerhoff

5  Lord Admiral   shocking 2nd in a grass route (MSW debut) with a "no name" trainer at the helm at odds of 36 to 1......needs more and surely might give it with the race under her belt

10  Sergio

race 2    average clarity

8  Hot Sean   broke a little slow in MSW debut and lugged in slightly in the stretch or likely would have graduated.........hasn't missed a beat in the a.m. since for Baffert and company......should definitely be the one to overcome

3  Eleutheros   not a bad work showing for this Hollendorfer 1st time starter and considering the numerous drills this colt put in that is saying something.....rather sure this filly is meant and ready for her debut

5  Monster Man   horrid trip in her MSW debut......toss it out especially since she had zero support at the windows........blinkers on for today.....big works showing since her debut........likely going to see much more what degree might be the ? mark

1  Blabimir

race 3    below average clarity

9  Time for Ebby   last appears to be the gimme to tighten up and drop and go at today's lower level.....race 2 back fits well and I believe we have a shot at seeing that effort today

10  Dixie Dame   fires every time but fires without a clue at what it means to go past the last horse in front of her.......have my doubts things will be much different today.......we shall see

6  If You Believe   positive - cut back in distance should be a very good thing.........negative - not crazy about one work showing since her last endeavor which was a race on 26 Aug. at Dmr

3  Redeeming Quality

race 4    average clarity

1  Big Champion    strong forward move 1st out after the claim by Glatt.....and I sure like that he steps this 3-year-old up significantly in a SA40K nw2.....par is about 6L faster but his number fits.....and he is protected and eligible for the same condition again if he wins......a gutsy interesting protected move

8  Special Story   bit of a wide trip in the 3 Sept version of the this race at Del Mar or this four-year old might have made it 2 for 2 lifetime.....3 reassuring works since the race........should once again come motoring late for Talamo

2  Golden Atlantic   decent shot to be speed of the speed in the race and retains Pratt.....lifetime best and a big number was his only 6F dirt race at SA......6 panels as well today

7  Basinca

Long-shot consideration:  3  Solo Dancer   surprisingly decent 5F grass race vs. way better in his latest....and the turf appears to have muscled him up as he put in a very fast 4F drill at the training track at SA.........might be a factor and at a big price if all 10 entered go

race 5    below average clarity

1  Cedar Rapids   blocked in the stretch or might have graduated at 1st asking........trainer R Mandella is often at his best with 45 to 90 day layoffs.........52 days away here and a tightly spaced muscle him up set of drills....seems ready for even better in lifetime start no. 2

9  Kimbear   fairly decent MSW debut but more importantly his trainer Eric Kruljac is dynamite 2nd time turf with a given in 7 for his last 18.......danger city

4  Irish Goodbye   needs race two back and maybe a little more and the rider upgrade can provide if we see his best ever 2 races back

2  Farley

Long-shot consideration:   7  Chief Hosa   not much in lone lifetime start which was a dirt sprint in June........good a.m. prowess and a pedigree that screams turf.....trainer is decent both 1st time long and 1st time turf.......might get too ignored at the windows

race 6    above average clarity

6  Klimt   talk about a good-looking learning 7F fig in latest at 7F furlongs.......1st at a route but the connections didn't shell out $435K at sale to develop a sprinter........Baffert appears to have yet another colt looking forward the best Graded races the USA has to offer for the younger set

5  Straight Fire   beaten by our top choice by 4 1/4 but he received a much tougher trip......set a nasty four furlongs on the lead and did it towards the inside and a somewhat dull rail day

2  Plum Dandy   another trapped inside on a day that the rail was even worse than the 2nd choice had to deal with but at a much softer two are awfully tough but another forward move for this colt would put him in the mix for top honors

4  Midnight Pleasure

race 7    average clarity

1  California Chrome   best horse on the planet got away with a relatively easy pace and was able to take it easy with a hand ride down the lane winning his latest......should feel fabulous running off such a seemingly stress-free race

2  Dortmund   don't have a clue why Dortmund wasn't sent to the front (instead stalked wide on both turns).....doubt that happens today........likely will try to get the lead and hold it all the way.......5 for 5 at SA......and 2 for 2 at 9 furlongs........toughest of foes to overcome but not impossible

3  Hoppertunity   his best track and his best distance.......still .........plenty has to go his way to take this prestigious race down

5  Soi Phet

race 8    average clarity

2  Frenzified   seems to be peaking at the right time..........solid 11 furlongs time/fig in latest and decent a.m. work since hints this Cassidy filly has held form......seems very deserving and ready for a shot at the big time

12  Zipessa   lost to one tough filly in the very prestigious Beverly D at Arlington and Geroux knows how good that filly is as he rode her that day......far outside post but owns enough speed to clear many early as a majority of the field races from out of it

4  Avenge   short on figs but might sit close up or on the lead in a race that has a decent chance of favoring those close up early

13  Elektrum

Long-shot consideration:  6  Tiz a Kiss   never better and this Baltas filly hints that the 10 furlongs might be to her liking.......needs a good trip and might get it sitting around 4th to 6th saving ground at least a good portion on the way

race 9    average clarity

5  Stellar Wind   beat Beholder in her last seemingly "fair and square"........4 for 4 at today's distance and is (6 5 1 0) overall racing in S Cal........seems likely to elect to stalk our 2nd and 3rd choices

3  Vale Dori   most likely going to lead and I believe that Beholder will sit back a little and stalk her........has showed up every time in every lifetime start and I see no reason that she won't again today

2  Beholder   not one race in 2016 has shown the tremendous ability that she possessed in previous years of racing......her 2015 Pacific Coast Classic effort would have given "Chrome" all that he could handle but she caved in way too easily against him in the 2016 Pacific Coast Clasic.....with all that said my 3 selections are split by only hairs

race 10    average clarity

3  Champagne Room   on the improve with every start and the latest forward move is hidden by a somewhat wide run moving into decent pace.......and today we get a rider upgrade

5  American Cleopatra    solid improvement in her 2nd lifetime start although she wasn't as impressive as our top choice despite beating her.....but......considering she is a full sister to the Triple Crown winner she has every right to love her 1st around two turns

4  Zapperkat   ultra impressive MSW debut running a very solid time for the given day and the effort/time was supported by gaps of 5L and 4L to 2nd and 3rd........and her conditioner Richard Baltas is quite dangerous the 1st time he sends a runner a route of ground

1  With Honors

race 11    average clarity

10  Swift Lady   appreciates the Santa Anita hill configuration and she likely will welcome a return to it if she handles the new grass course put in.......a.m. prowess hints she is up for a top effort and if she is she will be tough to overcome

7  Miss Katie Mae  east coast invader is consistent when placed in turf sprints.........three year old filly has run well on multiple turf surfaces including wins in France and Canada......might add a 3rd country to her win list this afternoon

1  Tourny  solid 1st out in the good old U S of A in latest off of a long layoff and vs. older......hasn't missed a beat in the a.m. since......believe moves forward if she takes the SA hill......a major player here if she does

3  Belvoir Bay

6  Nodiac

12  Coppa
