Santa Anita for Friday 7 October 2016

No publication will be available this Sunday and Monday. Those are the last two days of 2016 that we don't cover. Next year most of the days that we won't cover will be at Los Alamitos. The schedule for 2017 will be available next month which will also include the special pubs offered for 2017 year as well.

Best of luck always!

race 1    average clarity

6  Hye I'm Jack   decent stats at the distance and on the SA dirt.....drop seems logical to me especially to take advantage of the only claiming level ($16,000) that has a nw3 lifetime condition

2  Captain Avers   toss out latest as this gelding wants no part of running as far as 7 furlongs.......seems best on the lead but has run OK from off the pace as well.......seems highly likely to sit 1st or 2nd from the opening bell

7  Louden's Gray   hard trying sort ran 2nd the last time he ran turf to dirt like today......but he needs to overcome a tendency to hang especially in dirt races

5  Majestic Kitten

race 2    average clarity

8  Beantown Boys   showed solid speed 1st time in a dirt route stalking a very fast pace for the MC level......blinkers on today so you figure the barn wants the lead......good chance of getting it......dangerous gate to wire contender

9  Ucanthankmelater   blinkers on.....1st time gelding.......and he just worked his best work to date on Oct 1......successful surgery?.......we shall see

5  Proud of Our Kids    latest is better than appears in print......sprint-sprint-route scenario here......Eddie Truman has won with two of his last dozen with the maneuver

4  The Common Man

race 3    below average clarity

6  Tribal Jewel   ambitious multiple claiming level step up hints Spawr really likes what he sees in his recent claim....and he's not messing around in that he entices Bejarano to ride.......his new shooter is 9 for 18 in the exacta at the distance and 8 for 13 in the exacta at SA on the dirt

2  Heir of Storm   always have to appreciate when a sprinter attempting a route can be loose on the lead........that is the case here for this Baltas runner.......and Richard is awfully good the 1st time he sees fit to run a horse around two turns

5  Cape Wolfe   turf horse drops into claiming for the 1st time but does so in a dirt affair and isn't exactly dirt bred.......does train decently on the dirt......tough call if he handles it but he should be a player if he does

7  Rocko's Wheel

race 4    average clarity

4  Trust Ur Intuition   very fast race in latest albeit at only 5F.......but she has won at 7F so 6F might be a piece of cake especially how well she was running at the wire

5  Altaira   very consistent having hit the board in 12 of her last 13.......and she is 3 for 6 at the distance and 0 for 8 at other distances......low % bug boy but he has looked good on this cheap filly

8  Shakeitupbetty   like our top selection this mare just ran a solid number in a 5F affair......but this mare has been flattening some racing past 5 1/2F the last couple of years....but then again she does get a significant rider upgrade......dangerous for sure despite the distance

2  Fast Magoo

race 5    average clarity

( AE 11  Pearl de Vere  has a shot if she draws into the field)

7  Easy Grader   not the best of trips in last 2 grass races both at 5F....earned par like adjusted for trouble figs in both....and should appreciate the extra 1 1/2F for today.......Bejarano is almost always dangerous riding for Truman

4  Peach Cove   consistent sort also fired a par like adjusted for trouble fig in his last at Dmr at 5F on the grass.......and like our top choice she should like the extra 1 1/2F offered here

5  Longstocking   rank some on the turn and blocked some in the stretch or might have won this level in her in the a.m. since......and like our top two selections she should like the extra 1 1/2F offered here

1  Complimentary

Long-shot consideration (10 to 1 or higher):  6  Ashley's Sugar  about 4L of trip trouble in her only race down the majestic SA hill turf course.......and she was beaten by less than 4L and in a race vs. better......not impossible and likely at a price higher than her morning line

race 6    average clarity

5  Closing Time  two second place finishes in two lifetime starts and a nice forward move in the 2nd lifetime start.....and owns a good route pedigree for a Cal-bred......definitely seems like the one to overcome

4  Drinks At Sunset   solid 20 to 1 MSW debut.....not so hot in 2nd lifetime our top selection he owns a good route pedigree especially considering he is a Cal-bred.......needs a rebound.....major player if he provides one

2  Jet Ski   two decent efforts in two lifetime starts........away since 13 August but has spent the time putting in some nice a.m. work.......1st time blinkers hints they are going after the front end for his 1st at a route.....dangerous for sure

1  Amodel

race 7    average clarity

4  Avanti Bello   likes the dirt that SA has to offer and seems best at the distance of one mile.....has been hitting the board vs. better....should appreciate the class relief and it might put him in the winners circle

5  Smart Transition   last off of the long layoff sure appears to be a tune-up and much more should occur this afternoon......good history at SA and at today's 1 1/16th dirt distance.....big Grade 1 win for trainer/rider this past weekend

3  Poshsky   dangerous trainer "on the drop" in Peter our top selection he has been facing better and should appreciate today's level where his efforts/figs fit awfully well

6  Sammy Mandeville

race 8    average clarity

3  Merilore   distance should be fine and her latest is awfully impressive for Hartman and company as she not only ran wide throughout but did so sitting last with a lackluster pace being set up front.........two reassuring works since.....easy to place on top

6  Wahine Warrior   screaming out for longer and finally gets it today........consistently finishes well at 1 1/16th or less.....and the trainer/rider have won 4 of their last 8 as a combo

2  So Good to Go   9 furlongs sure seems like the best fit for this mare who won at today's tag in a 9F grass race run in mid June at Santa Anita.....the rider that won the race that day is up again today

11 AE  Optimisn And Hope

8  Shysheisnot

12 AE  Warren's Jen Fizz
