Santa Anita for Saturday 8 October 2016

No publication will be available this Sunday and Monday. Those are the last two days of 2016 that we don't cover. Next year most of the days that we won't cover will be at Los Alamitos. The schedule for 2017 will be available next month which will also include the special pubs offered for 2017 year as well.

Decent looking Saturday card. Be back with you on Friday. Breeders Cup at Santa Anita is only 4 weeks away.

Best of luck always!

race 1    above average clarity

4  Watch This Cat   extremely strong final time and pace set in her latest for the given level.....bullet drill since......she projects to run quite a few lengths better than par if of course she handles her 1st down majestic SA hill grass course

7  Midnight Swinger   exits the same powerhouse race as our top choice with just as an impressive effort at one mile on the grass.....and like our top pick she should be a ton if she handles the hill

5  Amber Louise   proven down the hill where the top two choices are not......but to win this she will likely need for both of them to dislike the hill or both not run to their potential

6  Halo Darling

race 2    below average clarity

5  Rosa Brava   new shooter for Mandella got her feet wet in the U S of A following a strong 8 race career in Brazil.....and the effort was par like when you adjust for her wide trip.....3 nice works since......should fit very well in this and deserves top billing if she logically moves forward

7  Fantasy of Luck   lifetime best by my book is her lone effort at SA........she dueled 3 wide in decent pace and still managed to win......and Baffert wisely retains Bejarano who is ( 4 2 1 1) on the filly when other riders have yet to hit the board in 3 starts

4  Always Believe   both lifetime races fit just fine....but she has been away since Feb. and it is difficult to tell how meant she is in her return to the race wars following an 8 month hiatus

6  Asian's Way

race 3    average clarity

3  Term of Art   nice move forward in 2nd lifetime start and it was at today's route distance....and no less than 4 six furlong reassuring endurance building works since....and no one else in the field has run a route

2  Sonneteer   good forward move in 2nd lifetime start......OK pedigree to handle a route of ground.....and Keith Desormeaux is rather solid getting his youngster's to get a route the 1st time they see one

4  A. P. Zona   vaulted forward in his 2nd lifetime endeavor and worked a bullet at Slr since.......and like our 2nd selection he owns a pedigree that has a decent chance of handling 2 turns

7  Big Hit

race 4    above average clarity

4  Lord Nelson   when is the last time a horse broke the 108 flat barrier the last two times he ran at the distance....that is the case here for this fabulous Baffert sprinter and he handled nasty pace in both and owns a perfect stalking style

5  Jazzy Times   double barrel action from Baffert.....believe this three-year old colt will be on the lead with his barn mate to follow even with the equipment change to blinkers off

race 5    average clarity

5  Kitcat   invader from Chile brings in his regular rider........a perfect 4 for 4 in 2016 including her biggest race of her life in her last winning a Grade 1 vs. the the mile work followed by one blazing bullet work of 4F....seems to have shipped well and acclimated to her new environment

1  Queen of The Sand   in need of a confidence builder and her connections see fit to give it to her running in an easier spot than she has been accustomed to for quite a long time....and she is racing at her favorite turf distance

9  Prize Exhibit   tons of run on the grass but consistently seems to find trouble.......but like our 2nd selection she gets some class relief today.......might still be a factor even with some trip trouble

2  Into The Mystic

race 6    average clarity

2  Derby Music   on the improve with every start and I sure like that he just worked a solid 3F bullet drill at LA.....very reassuring considering he is trained by a low % trainer

3  Sizzlin Square   earned the same fig basically as our top selection in his latest but I believe the extra 1/2 furlong that both have to handle today will favor our top selection.....still it is Doug O'Neill vs. Ruben Gomez

5  The All Button   double barrel action from O'Neill as he also trains our 2nd pick......two year old graduated in his last and the effort is disguised as he dueled on a dull inside and still managed to get to winners circle....not of of the picture here by any means

7  Duff Bart

race 7    above average clarity

10  Redneck Crazy   likes to hang some...... but.......exits a very fast race earning a strong number......and......he should sit in a nice stalk position in a race that is very void of speed.....and aggressive Pedroza is the right guy to keep him from hanging

6  Rideo   giant effort two back running wide close to a fast set of fractions and coming home in 122:3.....then tossed a clunker.......trainer smartly gives him time to recover and the works suggest he has....rebound seems what degree is the ? mark

9  Exemplar   needs his race two back and if he provides it he can be a major player with the jockey upgrade that he gets for this afternoon

2  Boompa

race 8    average clarity

4  Om   wound up like a top with some very tightly spaced muscle him up drills....should stalk our 2nd choice and hopefully get to him before the wire comes up

8  Obliviously   should once again grab the lead and be tough to catch even at the ripe old age of eight......and I like that Baze gets a shot on him as he is very good at getting route speed types on the turf to hold tougher come crunch time

7  Express Himself   likely needed his 1st in the good old U S of A and should strut his stuff this afternoon.....and I sure like that 1st 2nd and 3rd came back to run very strong races against each other last weekend as well.....and this fellow does his best running at today's one mile distance

6  Hootenanny

Long-shot consideration:   1  Frank Conversation   by far best on the grass and the AW......toss out last grass race at CD on Derby day as he seemingly hurt himself in the race......away since and training extremely well at LA.......and after a steady diet of Gutierrez we get Bejarano......such a deal

race 9    average clarity

6  Enter the Code   was able to run 2nd at today's same level despite dueling on a dull inside......and the works since hint he benefited from the effort as many do when racing on a deep (and/or loose) bad part of a biased track

9  Westmont   needs his 2nd lifetime start.......his debut or his 3rd start won't do......blinkers off for today for his 4th career start to try to get the race run two back out of him......recent bullet work hints the equipment change might do the trick

10  Well Regarded   works for this 1st time starter from the Cassidy barn seem good enough to possibly be ready for a solid effort in his debut into the wonderful world of thoroughbred racing

11  Downside

race 10    below average clarity

9  Gio's Lady   two so so route grass races in two lifetime starts....but the cut back to a turf sprint should be a plus......but.....what really catches my eye is the work tab (assuming he worked with them on) with the blinkers on for today.....the drills are vastly improved and should not be ignored

2  Siberian Iris   3 of the final 5 preparatory works for this R Mandella 1st time were out of the gate.....that hints he is well-meant in his MSW debut.......and Prat is very good with 2 year old maidens on the grass

10  Partyinthepaddock   very solid dirt MSW debut running better than par....rated too low if he takes to the turf today......and if he does handle the sod he should be prominent from the opening bell

8  Settle Down Eileen

11  Grand Prix

4  Diva La Mousse
