Santa Anita for Sunday 23 October 2016

Seems like an average card at best.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Tourney   very consistent young filly (including a record of 4 1 2 1 in Graded races in France) had a bad trip in latest breaking poorly from the one hole and then rushing.......she did well to only be beaten by 5L for the win.........better post........2 reassuring works......and a rider in Espinoza who will be out to make amends with a better ride

4  Poquita Coqueta   another consistent foreign-born female that owns 10 wins from 20 grass races and preformed well in her USA debut over at Del Mar running 2nd at one level higher........and Prat wisely sticks with the mare

6  Lily Pod   handles the turf just fine and it is interesting that her best dirt race was at 6 1/2F.......that is what she gets to approximately travel today in her 1st on the hill.........does well when she has contact with the front end of things and that has a shot at occurring here

7  She's a Big Winner

race 2    average clarity

1  Plastered   race 2 back fits solidly and that is obvious.....but the strength of her last is not obvious as she dueled in decent pace on a dull inside ........that was two months ago......... but the a.m. work since is strong and Stevens sticks with the Truman three-year old filly

2  Margie's Minute   last race she ran at SA which was 3 races back was an extremely fast heat where still ran a fig that fits here despite losing by 8 1/2L......on Prat is back up after being absent for her last two races......that signals she's likely ready for a rebound

3  Heat Me   sprinter attempts a route......and she seems to have enough early speed to get loose on the lead and thus dangerous

race 3    above average clarity

5  American Gal   the best final time fig and also owns the top fractional figs.........Baffert trained and Bejarano remains up......and on a good post......should be tough to overcome

1  Bernie Star   still a maiden but she ran a strong effort especially for a two-year old from the one hole 3 weeks ago at SA......not impossible to beat the top choice if she moves forward and/or the top pick  falters some

4  Woot Woot   easy wins in her last two but vs. easier than the top two that she faces today.......needs significantly better but might provide it as hot as the trainer/rider  have been as a team

race 4    average clarity

5  Pappou   very hard check on the 2nd turn which put the brakes on one big turn move in it's tracks.....capable of sitting closer which would be wise to do as there is very little early gas signed up for this race.........like her chances if Arroyo hustles her early

4  Student Body Left   very solid return to the race wars in his last which was his first in a dirt route......another first today running on the grass.....pedigree for it is good and if she lives up to her pedigree she should get a very nice trip on or close to the lead in a race where that should be an advantage

1  Bedeviled   moved forward in latest running better than par and beating 9 of 10 foes.......that race was run off of 14 days rest.......today's race is off of 70 days rest.....not all that encouraging but Keith Desormeaux is good with runners off 45 to 90 days.....and his bro remains in the saddle

3  Uncork the York

race 5    below average clarity

6  Warrensdollarsigns   should be very tough if she can return off of a layoff of 7 months as good as she was in her last two races which were in Feb. and Mar......I like that she can't be claimed and steps up....that hints Myadi might have her fully fit for her return

8  Filly on Fire   nicely improved effort 1st out following the Pederson claim and with the addition of blinkers.......filly has been off 10 weeks since the race but seems to be working well and faces easier on the drop down

1  Look Quickly   alarming multi level drop but does draw Prat.......so.......might not be in that bad a shape physically speaking for the sharp rider/agent to agree to ride the five-year old mare......we shall see

2  Zuzu's Petals

race 6    average clarity

2  Americana   MSW debut with the blinkers on was good and hidden by a 3 wide trip close to a decent set of fractions.......2nd start was poor with the blinkers off.......wisely put back on today......1st at a route and on the grass but owns a nice very pedigree to handle both......and we go from a struggling rider to Bejarano

7  Go Argento   both lifetime starts fit fine and they were run on the grass and at a route.....seemingly has a fitness advantage running off of route grass races......hard not to see being a major player in this affair

5  Aldar   shipped North to GG for her 3rd lifetime start and 1st at a route and on the grass and ran ceditably......but she likely needs to build on the effort some and just might as trainer Eddie Truman is starting to heat things up some

3  Paddy Jean

race 7    average clarity

2  Storm Coming Thru   might be a good claim by Becerra and he sure appears to have a handle on his new shooter as he has gotten plenty out of his new addition in the a.m.....the best preparatory works for the trainer for a given runner in many a moon.......and the five-year old gelding has run some good races at SA in the past

6  Tribal Tribute   another running fresh off of a claim......off pace runner now in the Hartman barn seemingly gets plenty of early gas to flatter his late running style......decent trainer/jockey combo in Hartman/Gonzalez

1  Dr. Go   solid race two back run turf to dirt.....so......his last on the turf screams gimme......as does the fact Stevens sticks with the Mike Harrington colt......and like our top pick the connections will be rooting for the 4, 5 and 7 to set a lively pace

 5  Overcomer

race 8    average clarity

3  Queen Bee to You   stepped up one level for her 2nd lifetime start and should have won.....but.....she had a troubled trip with about 5L of trip trouble and still only was beaten by 1/2 of a length.......likely feels even better as Myadi steps her out of maiden claiming for the first......small move forward + a better trip = graduation day

5  Divine Spark   dangerous looking work tab for this Baffert 1st time starter (what's new).....Martin Garcia up who has been visible absent riding Bob's stock of late but he just won on a Baffert runner the other day.....talk about incentive  for the jock

2  Beau Square   decently bred Cal-bred (and both sides of the family) 1st time starter appears to be meant and ready at 1st asking for O"Neill and company

9  Meet'n On High

Long-shot consideration:   8  Another Girl Alma   lone career race way back in June wasn't bad beating 1/2 the field and doing so at odds of 24 to 1.....that suggests the race was only learning experienc.....been away since and returns with a much improved work regiment.....and.....one hot rider/trainer combo in Elliot/Puype

race 9    average clarity

8  Tribal Fighter   4 - 5 wide and close to a strong pace......rather amazing to break the 112 barrier down the hill especially considering it was his 1st run down it......same effort with a better trip and Bejarano should wind up in the winners circle

3  Zinvor   very impressive when running one mile or less on the turf including races down the hill.......jock knows this four-year old well as this is 8th straight ride on him

7  Forest Blue   seems like a better sprinter and has proven himself on the grass in routes........so.......that suggests his 1st down the hill has a shot a being a very good thing......and Miller has been making all the right moves of late

5  Anthonysgotgame

1  Eddie Haskel

2  Woody's Folly
