Santa Anita for Friday 28 October 2016

Today's race card seems OK.

Saturday's was very difficult to decipher.

Sunday's card seems quite good at first glance.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

1  Trinitys Turn   John Ivory often struggles in the S Cal circuit but not with this three-year old filly who he consistently has had ready to run competitively in 2016 (11 2 3 4 2).....and a good portion of that is with Gonzalez in the saddle and at today's one mile distance.....and.......Gonzo is up today for his only mount on the card

5  Midnight Candy   low percentage struggling trainer these days in Becerra......but he drops this filly a couple of levels and if he can get her latest race out of her she can take down this race.......but......her last was run off of 15 days rest.......today she is competing off of 41 days rest

2  Olotta Shaken   voided claim in latest which was a nice win with today's rider Chantal Sutherland up for her lone mount of the day.......obviously this filly has physical problems but she has had 2 1/2 months off for her trainer to get her physically up to snuff....should be in the mix from the opening bell

race 2    average clarity

6  Vibe   easy to ignore his last where he was placed way over his noggin.......race two back is 3 or 4 lengths better than par for today's level when you adjust for his wide trip.......seems likely to keep our 2nd pick in his sights and move at him by the 2nd turn or the stretch

2  Dixie Pistol   turf fig in his last fits fine and he has plenty of early turf route speed......big shot to wire this field if he handles the dirt as well........so so pedigree for it but usually the best place to be if your dirt ability is questionable is on the lead

7  Datcatsa Gem   2 of 3 lifetime races fit fine at today's MC75K level but this is his first at a route whereas our top two selections have shown they can handle two turns......not impossible but easy to put as our 3rd selection

4  Lookin At Mossy

race 3    below average clarity

3  Rprettyboyfloyd    wide trip in his latest disguises a dirt effort that fits fig wise here........claimed by Brocklebank and his a.m. work since hints John has a handle on his new shooter......significant rider upgrade to Prat from Lindsey......and this gelding has a pedigree that strongly suggests trying the grass for the 1st time at five is a very wise move

6  All Call   another competing 1st out following a claim....in this case for Hess who just put a nice 4F work into new acquisition......1st down the hill but he has been in the exacta 10 of 17 grass races......sure seems dangerous

9  Unusual Fleet   lone lifetime race down the majestic Santa Anita hill grass course is good......and Baltas gets Bejarano to ride who was aboard for that lone hill race effort which was back in March

5  Hay Dude

race 4    average clarity

5  Glacken Too   gelding owns numerous races that are better than appear in print......interesting (very out of the norm) one mile endurance building work put into this fellow by Miller prior to his winning effort in his latest.....since the win two nice speed works put in......that should help him sit close to the 2 horse who should be on the lead

3  Lilly's Finale   double barrel action for Miller as he also trains our top choice.......race two back is much better than appears in print......Miller is red-hot with drop downs as well as when he teams up with Desormeaux (8 for their last 18) .......both are the case here

1  Ankeny Hill   likely needs more that his latest but he is running 2nd out following a layoff and with a rider upgrade......and with a strong 4F work since his return to the race wars.......dangerous

race 5    above average clarity

7  Jilly   blinkers taken off for her 2nd lifetime start led to a vastly improved effort.......that effort easily pegs her as the one to overcome today and with reliable connections in Baffert/Bejarano

2  It Tiz Well   best works for this Hollendorfer 1st time starter are her gate works....that hints she is competitive and can run some.....and Jerry H. is my favorite trainer with young filly MSW 1st timers

3  Marley's Freedom   seems highly likely to move forward in her 2nd lifetime start as she didn't have any support at the windows in her debut where she showed some ability.......and her daddy Blame is off to a come start as a sire

5  Road Test

race 6    below average clarity

4  Cammy's Music   strong 4F just 4 days ago sets this two-year old up well for today's significant drop in maiden claiming price.......and his trainer is 2 for his last 3 with multiple class drops.......and Craig Dollase sure could use a win

1  Yodelers Way   lifetime best and a solid fit here was the last time this colt had the blinkers put on (in his 2nd lifetime start) and with a significant rider upgrade.......they are back on following two races with them off.....and you guessed it......with a significant rider upgrade

2  Downside Up   on the improve and seems likely to finish up well at 6 1/2F when others might not

9  Three Eclipse

Long-shot consideration:  6  Burn Baby Burn   went off at 40 to 1 in MC debut suggesting he wasn't fully cranked up yet he beat 4 of 9 foes and finished with interest......might have greatly benefited from the effort if I am correct in my assessment concerning how wound up he was

race 7    average clarity

2  Glory   away since May but appears to be ready for Hollendorfer and company......and if she is she should get a good up close ground saving trip sitting 1st or 2nd on a dirt surface she handles fairly well

5  Vale Dori   two races run at Dmr would be tough to beat......but.....her race at SA in her latest is very beatable........was it just a bad day or a surface she doesn't care for.......we likely answer that question this afternoon

4  All Star Bub   short on numbers but races at her best distance and track.....not impossibly but easy to put as the 3rd selection

race 8    average clarity

9  Spooky Woods   Hollendorfer two-year old filly was training like a good one so started in a Stakes race and ran 3rd and did so as the favorite.......placed in a MSW race for her 2nd lifetime endeavor and retains Mike Smith.......hard not to like

5  Viva Vegas   both lifetime starts at Del Mar fit solidly for this Baffert two-year old......but.....his race at SA was dull.......so was it a disliking of the SA surface......or just a bad day......we shall see

6  Diamondinthecenter   bet to favoritism in her MSW debut and ran 3rd in a race run way back in May......been away since but she is training as is she is primed and ready to roll for Jeff Bonde and company......seems likely to be on the engine from the get go

4  Singleforareason

8  Hopefully

7  Salten Sapity
