Santa Anita for Saturday 29 October 2016

Not the easiest of cards to decipher as you can tell by the clarity ratings.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

2  Anatolian Heat   needs a rebound to his form displayed in May and June.....and the vastly improved works hint we will see one and from a barn having a stellar meeting

6  Brandothebartender  needs ample time between starts and gets it......also gets a nice rider upgrade to Desormeaux who won on this three-year old in his MSW debut...... and it was at today's 6 1/2F down the hill grass course

3  Sudden Sam    new trainer for today and he might have a nice new shooter as he just won in a solid time at Otp and for a low percentage trainer......1st on the sod but owns a pedigree that suggests he should take to it just fine

7  Fire to the Wire

race 2    below average clarity

1  Who's Out  toss out bad trip given by ageless Mike Smith out-of-town (the clock is ticking on two great riders in Smith and Stevens who continue to defy their age but one of these days - which I believe will be sooner rather than later - father time will catch up with them despite their impressive work-out routine).....back home and training great with 1st time blinkers.....tough post but he handled it well at Dmr 3 races back

3  Texas Two Step   by far at his best running 6 panels......and just worked an eye-popping 58:3 at Slr.......Miller has a shot to add to his lofty win total for the brief meeting here

2  Guy Code   loves the lead and I believe gets it here..........last two times he had a loose lead at the 1/2 he ran 2nd and 1st....... and......both races were at SA

race 3    below average clarity

6  Pico Chick   just snatched up by way of claim and Truman smartly puts Bejarano up who is (5 3 1 1) aboard this filly....and Truman seldom messes around when he entices Raffy to ride

2  Fruity   hard to argue with 2 wins in 2 lifetime conventional dirt sprints one of which was at SA and at today's 6 1/2 furlongs

5  Arewehavingfunyet   Baltas has had this filly very ready every time he has risked her for a tag (4 2 1 1).......and she up for sale today

race 4    below average clarity

9  Sawbuck   wide trip in debut somewhat hides a nice effort.......and his trainer Vladimir Cerin is much more dangerous with 2nd time starters......and I like the rider change to the fairly hot Perez from a an ice-cold Gonzalez

3  One I'm Running To   broke a couple slow in MC debut and then showed he can run some......Prat wisely stays up and if he breaks well today he might be on or at least very close to the lead in this spot lacking early speed

5  We Go Now   takes that magical drop from MSW racing th maiden caliming.......1st two lifetime races sure fit here.....his next two do not....trainer shows signs of awakening from the doldrums

2  General Info

race 5    average clarity

(AE:  14  Adrosa Sky fits if draws into the field)

10  Nat's Nation   on the improve with each and every start and he has handled the SA hill grass course quite nicely......should be tough once again today if Talamo doesn't get caught wide on the turn from the outside draw

6  Aeon   three-year old is improving one step at a time since Truman took over 3 races back......and I like the cut back turf route to turf sprint as this gelding has flatten some in the late stages of his two lifetime routes....doubt he will at 6 1/2F  especially with 1st time Raffy

3  Trust Your Gut   another who I belive is better suited to sprint......good effort in lone race down the SA hill......and it seems noteworthy that he showed the best early speed of his lifetime by far in that effort down the hill

5  Melville

Long-shot consideration:   2  Tribal Roar   1st time gelding and a bullet gate work just 3 days ago......might awaken today 1st time following the surgery and 1st time on the lawn which he is bred very well for

race 6    average clarity

1  Triple Clown   logical drop and for a trainer who constantly drops to win races.....tough post but I believe Baze will still work out a decent trip with this fellow who usually breaks decently from the gate

2  Dr. Crabby   lone win came in his maiden debut so you know he is capable "fresh"........away since December and he is working as if he is ready to roll......and he best be as he has a decent shot at being claimed today

8  It's Just Bob   should definitely appreciate the abbreviated 5 1/2 furlong sprint distance....1st following the Sal Gonzalez claim......showing a decent work series for his new trainer.....and drops.......seems dangerous

11  Rideo

Long-shot consideration:   7  Jet Seeker  lifetime best was run in his last which was his lone lifetime race with both Lasix and blinkers......trainer and rider are hot together as in 3 for their last 9 with 4 others in the money over the last two months

race 7    average clarity

7  Sonneteer   seems to have run into shape and ready to graduate if the trend continues and even has a shot if it doesn't......and I like the rider change back to bro Desormeaux

2  Bobby G   wide trip and blocked in the stretch or might have graduated in his last which was his 2nd start and 1st at a route.....good post and one of Cal's top jocks remains up.....should be a major player

5  Show Me Da Lute   Baffert isn't as prolific getting a 1st timer to win debuting at a route as compared to a sprint but who is......and he is still a solid 16% win with his last 19 1st out at a route ......and .......he has this colt training as if this is a full blown "go"

9  Lyrical Passage

race 8    below average clarity

5  Barleysugar   last might have been a tightener vs. older.......and if so her other two races run in the good old U S of A are solid....believe she rebounds to one of them today

6  Nodiac   nice race back on 12 Mar run turf sprint to turf route......turf sprint in latest and she sure did fly late in that prep race.......that sets her up nicely for today where she might have been pointed all along

1  Danilovna   overcame a bad trip to score in her 1st endeavor in the USA in an alw race at Belmont.....ships xcountry for this race for a trainer who has better than average success when he ships coast to coast

10 Belvoir Bay

Long-shot consideration:   2  Great Page   great time for blinkers on for this Hollendorfer price shot as the race lacks speed and this filly is likely to show some.....like that she won a Grade 3 at only 1/2 furlong less than today and did it as a two year old overseas.....that tells me the one mile offered today should easily be within her range at three

race 9    average clarity

7  Ann Arbor Eddie   5 straight gate works and one of them quite impressive for this two-year old Cal-bred 1st timer (111:2 Hg)......seemingly all systems go for this O'Neill 1ster

10  Woodfox   bad trip in debut earning close to a par like number when you adjust for trouble.......and went off at 70 to 1 hinting she wasn't fully cranked up......blinkers on and 1st time Lasix.......better trip and a move forward and she should be one strong price shot......20 to 1 in morning line

3  Dickie   better than it appears effort in debut especially having to cope with the outer-most 12 post......better post today and a much improved work since his debut........another dangerous ML 20 to 1

5  He's All That

1  Amodel
