Santa Anita for Sunday 30 October 2016

Good card today so I sure hope the moisture stays away as to not mess with the racing surfaces.

Had to eliminate the 3rd place comments as rain is in the area and I needed to study the 3 grass races in case they are moved to the turf. And with the Breeders Cup next weekend I doubt it would take much for the powers that be to yank the races off of the grass.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

(if off the turf and moved to the dirt  3-11AE-13AE-4-2-1)

3  Cut   1st on the grass and at a route but his pedigree for both is good.....impressive series of 5F drills in preparation for today.......and.......if the 1st time starters don't have any early speed he should be on the lead in this spot

2  Van Cortlandt   both lifetime grass races look good in this spot and he runs as a 1st time gelding this afternoon for Callaghan and company.....seems dangerous especially if the surgery worked out as intended

5  Odyssey Explorer

1  Kona Dreams

race 2    above average clarity

3  Proud of Our Kids   1st at a route in his latest is rather decent especially vs. this soft looking group and he likely will show more today with the endurance put into him running long for the first time........seems likely to get a nice ground saving trip on or near the lead

2  Kenzou's Rhythm   bottled up on the turn and stretch or would have finished with a better placing.....like the switch to Baze from an ice-cold Garcia......1st at a route today but that is right in D'Amato's wheelhouse

6  Chase the Money

race 3    above average clarity

2  Frac Candy   away since March when Spawr claimed for $25K.......returns as a 1st time gelding and with a preparatory work series that suggests the surgery has worked out well........and the connections get a free square as their gelding is not eligible to be claimed......believe primed and well-meant

5  El Koreano   best early speed in this field by far.....can get away and might never look back especially if the track is friendly to speed with the possibly of some moisture in the track surface

3  Bolitar

race 4    below average clarity

(if off the turf and moved to the dirt  5-2-7--9)

7  Mizzen Glory   SCRATCHED    decent win in her MSW debut albeit run in a time that was nothing special at Lrc......but her a.m. work since hints the race muscled her up nicely......and she is bred well to take to the turf and for a trainer in Sise who is 2 for his last 8 1st time turf

5  Basic Boots   trainer is in magic mode having won something like 4 of his last 5 with a few of those wins eye-popping forward moves........Sherlock just claimed this filly and he might have the trump card for her as she just worked two impressive back to back drills......like our top selection this is her 1st on the grass but she also has a pedigree that says she a good shot at handling it

1  Trust Ur Intuition   SCRATCHED

6  Algorhythmic

race 5    above average clarity

2  Nextdoorneighbor   ultra consistent money-making cheap claimer especially at SA and with Peter Miller doing the training........and not too shabby at today's distance of 6 1/2 furlongs either (12 4 4 1)

6  Finallygotsbentley   might be a good claim by Rosemary Trela as the works are solid since the claim (after she gave her new shooter about a 4 week break) and that is reassuring as the last run by this gelding was one big effort....... the kind that often KO's an individual

5  Fooled Again

4  Sidepocket Champ

race 6    average clarity

1  Uninvited  SCRATCHED very consistent sort and well proven at a route.......but tends to hang......but he seemingly catches one of the softest fields of his life and is training great as the connections must feel they might lose him despite the lofty $75K someone will need to shell out for him....highly likely to run 2nd if he fails to win

2  Zealous Tale   very strong race 1st following the O'Neill claim and it was his first at a route.....and the race is disguised by a tough trip........and O'Neill must like what he sees as he steps up his new shooter multiple claiming levels......and entices Prat to ride

8  Westwood's Wizard

4  Is Trevor Clever  SCRATCHED

race 7    below average clarity

6  Semper Fortis   last 5 of 6 racing endeavor sure fit solidly here and the race that doesn't saw Fallon in the saddle and did he ever falter in his bid to break into the S Cal racing scene

9  Chief of Staff   seems best at today's distance of 8F.....and is very tough when racing off of short rest........and 23 days since his latest qualifies for that

10  Avanti Belle

8  St. Joe Bay

race 8    above average clarity

(if off the turf and moved to the dirt  4-2-8-6-7)

2  A Red Tie Day   strong 10 furlong grass race in last fig wise and he seems much better suited to racing at 8F where he owns 2 wins in 3 starts........and he just worked a bullet 5 days ago......should sit on or near the lead in an affair they seemingly favors those that do

4  Twentytwentyvision   quite the history when competing on the grass in anything other than Graded races (5 4 1 0)......Mandella trained......and Prat up........that is one solid trifecta of reasons this gelding should show up big time today

5  Drummer

6  Patriots Rule

race 9    average clarity

6  Thunder Basin   seems like a decent claim by Hess.........like this gelding's lone race at SA in January where Pedroza took back a little and got a strong 2nd place effort out of this fellow.......sprint-sprint-route scenario today and that scenario is usually more effective 3rd out after a layoff......which is the case here

4  Look Twice   good effort 1st out following the Hartman claim.....but what really catches my eye is the near bullet work......so far in S Cal Hartman hasn't pushed his stock much at all in the a.m.....so.....the solid 2nd best of 51 drill seems more even significant than it normally would

2  Profound Visionary

5  Tiz Love

1  Bluegrass Bronco
