Santa Anita for Thursday 3 November 2016

Decent looking card this afternoon. Friday's Breeders Cup card will be posted no later than 4 a.m. pacific time on Friday and most likely earlier than that.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

7  Cape Wolf   toss out his latest (up for tag for the 1st time - $50K ) as he sure has weak breeding to handle conventional dirt......definitely a suspicious drop to the bottom claiming price for the grass at SA but if his physical condition holds up for this race he has a great shot to sit mid pack and pass many or all by the time the wire comes up

5  Rangi   brutal pace to deal with in latest with the edition of blinkers......toss the effort out.......blinkers off for today and Bejarano back on after being absent for the last 3 races for this Baltas gelding........and Bejarano has a good history with this hill specialist who has been in the exacta 6 of 12 races on it

2  Eddie's First   another who physically is questionable but should be competitive in this spot if healthy enough this afternoon......and he seems likely to get a nice advantages ground saving stalk position

3  Incline Village

race 2    average clarity

4  Gosecal   kind of wide and close to a strong pace in her latest which was her 1st at a route.....and was a nice forward move.....and the works since strongly suggest even better will occur this afternoon....and....with a significant jock upgrade

5  Majestic Quality   exits the same race as our top selection with a wide trip......and also like our top selection she seems to have exited the race in good shape if her a.m. work is worth a hoot

7  Sandy's Surprise   strong forward move in her 2nd lifetime start in a race run at 7F........attempts two turns for her 3rd lifetime start and if she can run as well as she did in her latest one turn race she will also be a major factor in the outcome of this race

8  Czarina

race 3    above average clarity

2  Vending Machine   last two races which were both at today's one mile distance look awfully good here if this colt is up for similar today......and the way Miller/Desormeaux have been getting the job accomplished (8 for their last 20 win over the last couple of months) you would think this colt will be up to the task

7  Beantown Boys   might be a good claim by Hess of a two-year old who appears to like route racing and just popped his lifetime best with the addition of blinkers.....and Hess who seldom pushes them hard in the morning just got his new shooter to work a fast 4f bullet work and do so on the SA surface.....should be in the hunt from the get go

6  Sorry Erik   easy for yours truly to toss out his latest as his grass pedigree by my book is poor ......back where he graduated two back - at one mile on the dirt.......has a shot but easy to put as 3rd selection

3  Duff Bart

race 4    above average clarity

2  Back Beauty   on a rebound of sorts and now tries the grass for the 1st time.......her pedigree for it seems OK but her preparation for her 1st attempt on the grass is much better than OK........as her works at LA are very strong and hint that if she handles the change in surfaces she will run a big effort

4  Little Bit Lovely   one post draw in latest which was also down the hill led to a poor start and rush down the hill by her rider using her up.....drops two levels and does so with a better post....she is usually a good gate horse......can be in it from the very start

3  Revenue Virginius   seems like the best of the off pace turf runners in the race......and reverts back to Prat after two races without him ......and Prat has two wins on this filly in 5 mounts

6  Sidepocket Run

race 5    below average clarity

6  Altaira   consistent sort was placed a bit too ambitiously in her last the 1st out following the Saldana claim.....placed back to the 8K level she was snatched for.....running off of short rest but her history suggests she will handle the mere 11 days off

2  Seeking Shamrocks   Puype has had plenty of success this year dropping multiple levels.....as in 5 for his last 8 with multiple level drop downs like this runner......has never raced at 6 1/2F on the dirt but his best races are at 7F so one would surmise 6 1/2 would fit fine

3  Shakeitupbetty   improved in her last two racing endeavors.......good 5/8ths work since her last and I like that Desormeaux sticks around to ride a cheap claimer

4  Audra

race 6    average clarity

7  Imperative   seems like a confidence builder as this fellow has been competing in some the highest level Graded races that S Cal has to offer.....and he is 2 for 2 at today's distance....should be coming hard when they turn for home

8  Magic Mark   very strong races in his last two.....running either of them makes him a major player here......and he is 4 for 7 at the distance.....and....he is very capable of handling a very strong set of fractions and sticking around till the end.....few can

2  Conquest Cobra   slipped a little in his latest but prior to that he rattled off two solid races .....fits if he can manage a rebound

4  El Huerfano

race 7    average clarity

2  Feldini   hidden move forward in latest earning a Santucci adjusted for trouble fig about 2L better than par for today's racing level.....same distance and surface has her last and with a much better post for Van Dyke to work with......sharp very reassuring 5/8ths drill put in last week at Slr

8  Champagne Charley   dangerous looking Euro invader gets a world-class grass rider in the saddle in Lanfranco Dettori.......work regiment hints Callaghan is all business with his new shooter

1  G. A. Betting   lone race on the grass was poor but it was run over a year ago......and his pedigree to handle the sod is decent.......and he is coming off of his best (a very strong fig for 7F) lifetime dirt race albeit way back in July........last two times he got loose he won.....and if he takes to the grass this time he sure appears loose in this spot lacking speed types

5  Top of the Game

race 8    average clarity

11  Pistol Packin Rose   obvious looking tune-up and a learning experience placed in a protected MSW race for this young filly......drops to the bottom level MC available for a 2-year-old at SA......works are very strong at LA for the given level..........full throttle today for O'Neill and company

8  Pattin for a Dance   seemingly running into shape and seems poised to graduate if not today.......soon........should finish up well at 6 1/2 furlongs when many in this large field will not

9  Wild Cause   3 of 4 lifetime dirt races fit fine in today's spot which is the lowest tag this filly has ever run for........barn might be pulling out all stops today as they might lose this young Cal-bred

14 AE  Passion for Papa

5  She Looks Proud

2  Warrioress

3  Seeking Sofia
