Del Mar for Thursday 17 November 2016

Average looking race card this afternoon. Let's call it a 6 on the 1 to 10 scale of things. Friday's card looks decent at for first glance.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

7  Rocky's Rainbow   trainer/rider teamed up for two wins on Sunday making them 6 for their last 18 over the last two months.......last race fits but what we want is her race two back which was her lifetime best and by a wide margin .......and is was the only time this filly competed at 5 1/2F

1  Tinderette   good breaking from the gate including from the 1 post.......should be in the mix from the get go and like our top selection with a hot rider/trainer combo in Baze/Mullins......4 for their last 10 over the last two months with 3 others in the money......cut back in distance should be a plus

2  Late'n Left   seemed like a suspicious drop in her last but was snatched at the claiming box anyway...... but.......she does return at the same level and with a fairly decent work......Glatt is solid 1st following a claim and might squeeze one or two decent efforts out of this filly....we shall see

3  Sooner Time

race 2    above average clarity

1  Hal's Buddy   seems like a great spot for a filly who sure has been on a solid upward trend since running as low as a 6,250 claiming tag in May.......decent history on conventional dirt.......bothers to ship from N Cal for only an $18K purse......should be tough unless she doesn't care for the Del Mar dirt

7  Warrensdollarsigns   filly has developed into a very consistent sort and she rattled off 2 straight wins with the addition of blinkers before having to be laid up......her last sure appears to be a needed sprint tune-up off of the 7 month layoff to be fully fit for today's route race.....definitely seems like a major factor in the outcome of this race

4  Buttercup Gold   another lured down from up north who is doing awfully well these days since high % trainer Wong claimed her 4 races back......good history at the distance (7 2 2 2)......should be in the mix from the get go and very dangerous

6  Quinnette

race 3    average clarity

8  Eagle Screams   seven-year old has been facing much tougher and not earning his keep since Wong claimed in Feb for $ he finally drops his gelding multiple alw levels entering for the optional $20K......the high % trainer knows he likely will lose his runner today so he has him very well prepared to get a large chunk of the $53K purse offered today

7  Temple Keys   4 lbs less to carry and a soft looking group might help this very late runner to be the last one standing at the wire

5  Over Par   yet to fire three decent races in a row but he appreciates the distance and the Dmr turf so if O'Neill can get a 3rd straight competitive effort out of him he should have been rated higher

6  Silver Summer

Long-shot consideration:   1  Plain Wrap   in an every other mode and he is on the desired end of the pendulum today........only attempt on the sod (poor) was also his only race wearing blinks today and he is well-bred for the surface.....deserves another shot at a price

race 4    average clarity

3  Wild Mischief   all three route races fit in this spot since the blinkers were put on ..........and he finally gets something other than a very low percentage rider........and his new jock Martin Pedroza is off to a good start at the new meeting........believe he can fire his lifetime best today because of the very strong rider change

5  Solar Zone   recent 4th best of 100 5F work hints the back to back grass races has muscled this Gary Stute runner up......should be in the mix from the get go with bug boy Lindsay in the saddle.....and the 7 lbs. apprentice is at his best in dirt route races

7  Adir   2 or 3 lengths short of the par level for a MC20K in both of his route races at Del Mar........maybe blinkers off for today can improve him enough to move him forward a couple of lengths......trainer is 2 of her last 5 with the blinkers off with two others hitting the board

9  Big Bad Jon

race 5    average clarity

3  My Pi Romancer   hidden move forward in 2nd lifetime start and her debut wasn't bad.......trainer is good with the sprint-sprint-route maneuver and this filly owns a good pedigree to take to the grass and a route......retains my favorite rider with two-year old grass runners

8  Princess Roi   away for 2 1/2 months but is working as if she is ready to roll fresh off of the bench......and she is decently bred for the sod and for a trainer in Baltas who is quite good (one of the best on the grounds) the 1st time he sends a given runner long .....should be in the mix from the get go if she does take to the green carpet

9  Alder   two decent MSW turf route races vs. open company......basically there haven't been opportunities for two-year old Cal-breds running long on the sod......connections have to be happy and excited that there is now

2  Ocean Dream

race 6   below average clarity

2  Miss Big Stuff   nice wake-up with the blinkers on in latest and I sure like the multiple step up in claiming levels......all 3 races at Dmr are very strong pace wise and overall are much better than appear in print......and her MSW debut at Dmr was a win vs. the guys.....rebounding and gets to run on a surface she likes.....such a deal

5  Daring Darling   away from the game 10 months but training as if she is ready just as she was breaking her maiden at 1st asking.......and she best be as there is a decent chance she will get snatched up at the claiming box

8  Pico Chick   good off of short rest........2 for 2 at 6F at Del Mar.......with Bejarano on the sidelines Truman gets Prat to accept the mount......a trifecta of positives to consider

3  Gypsy's Rule

race 7    average clarity

2  Sea Smoke   big awakening in latest (and with an inferior rider) or maybe she didn't care for Dmr in her race two back.....hope that isn't the case because if she can repeat her last with a much better jock she should be tough

6  Luck De   on the improve one baby step at a time with few reasons not to believe the educational process won't continue today.....and the extra 1/16 of turf to cover appears to be a plus.......retains top turf jock in Prat who knows her well

1  Almost Reality   filly faced the boys (broke her maiden vs. them in Feb.) in her last and a good group of them at that......back where she belongs this afternoon and at a distance she does OK with......and gets a major league rider upgrade

5  Jennyway U Want It

race 8    above average clarity

4  Gio's Lady   MSW turf efforts/figs considering today's much lower maiden level sure fit solidly here........and she has always worked as if she can handle the dirt......seems like a ton if she does

8  Pattin for a Dance   vastly improved in latest and the effort is somewhat disguised........broke slow - checked some - ran way to wide.......earned an adjusted for trouble Santucci fig that is about 1/2 dozen lengths better than par for today's maiden claiming level

10  Discrets   works seem good enough to possible be meant and ready in her maiden debut.....Janet Armstrong has won 2 of her last 6 sending out MC 1sters with one other hitting the has tossed a decent 6 winners from 8 starters

1  Eskenforandreya

2  Lovin d"Cause

5  Princess Marie
