Del Mar for Thursday 24 November 2016

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

7  Proud of Our Kids   on the improve with every start......and the the cut back from route to a 7F sprint seems more significant than it usually is because the extended sprint distance will cause many in here to be gassed in the late stages.......which........ should help this sharp and endurance fit two-year old be a big factor late

4  The All Button   seems like the best of the speed horses in this affair......lone lifetime win came off of short rest of 22 days route to sprint.......21 days since his latest which was a route race......hmmm

3  Three Eclipse   quite the awakening in his latest with the addition of blinkers.......pedigree to go longer is decent........would have rated higher if it wasn't for a very weak stat for Hess.....the trainer is a dismal 1 for his last 35 with runners coming off of their maiden win

6  Eichel

race 2    below average clarity

2  Jonny's Choice   might be a good claim by Mullins and company of a seven-year old (soon to be 8) who has found the fountain of youth as he has 3 wins - 2 2nd's - and a 3rd in his last 7 dirt races.......and he is 2 for 2 at Del Mar

7  Peyton   Diodoro has been hot at the new meeting .........even hotter than his decent (6 2 1 1) record indicates....... seven-year old gelding obviously has some physical issues but Diodoro is a stellar 30% with a very large sampling with multiple level drop downs

6  Tiz Jolie   here was my comment for this fellow prior to his last race:   last is very powerful earning a fig that is much better than par for the 12.5K level.....so why the drop to the bottom 8K level......maybe V Garcia just wants a win as it has been a somewhat dismal 2016 for the conditioner......we shall see........he ended up falling backwards about a dozen lengths fig wise....but.....the works since hint at a rebound........we shall see......again

3  Opsec

race 3    average clarity

7  Sky Preacher   at his best at one mile on the sod.....on the improve since Baltas claimed from O'Neill........stepped up in last at a distance that doesn't appear to suit him that well and still won......steps up again and gets to run at his favorite distance today....trainer is hot especially when he puts in strong works like the recent 5F bullet work for this four-year old

2  Poshsky   another hot trainer in Peter Miller and like our top selection this runner gets to compete at a distance that seems to suit him the best........and whereas our top choice steps up this fellow drops and drops for a trainer who is very dangerous we he does

1  Got Even    not his best surface but he seemingly gets what he loves and that is a loose reasonably paced lead.......dangerous despite missing the board in two lifetime turf races

6  Cape Wolfe

race 4    below average clarity

9  Bolita Boyz   0 for 15 on the synthetic and the turf.......5 for 8 on conventional dirt with 2 others hitting the board........sharp a.m. work series at GG and then a nice 5F drill only 5 days ago at SA.......all systems go for Hollendotfer and company

8  Drover Crazy   shooting for his 3rd consecutive win 1st out for Miller following a 20K claim.......1st out after a Miller claim is a dangerous proposition especially now as hot as he has been.......rider is struggling but Blanc is 1 for his last 3 riding for Miller and that winner went off at a nice price

3  Cherumbim   like the time off to get a rebound out of this five-year old who has been declining some.....also like that someone other than Pereira finally gets to ride ......dangerous sort

10  Basinca

Long-shot consideration:    6  Boone Docks    exits a very fast heat vs better and with a bad trip where getting beat by 14 is close to par (when you adjust for trouble) for today's lower level

race 5    average clarity

7  Family Code   very reliable consistent sort on the dirt when sprinting.....tries the turf for the 1st time and with an OK pedigree for it......if he does take to the sod with that consistency he likely will be a major player......who......should be able to get a nice outside stalking trip

1  Brandothebartender   hard to argue with one win and three seconds in four lifetime turf sprints......and can he ever close fast in the late stages.......easily would have been top choice if this sprint was further than 5F

2  Royal Privacy   only grass race was at a route and I can forgive the race as his pedigree suggested he wouldn't appreciated one......and he is decently bred for the grass..........has won 2 straight races on the dirt.....seeking to making it 3 straight and might if he handles the grass at a distance that seems more suitable

6  Hot Market

Long-shot consideration:   8  John's Journey   form seems better right now than it did last fall when he attempted his 1st ever on the sod.......that effort is decent.......so if he is a sharper horse this time around logic suggests a better turf sprint can be expected especially at a much shorter turf sprint distance which sure a appears to be a better fit

race 6    average clarity

2  Brainspin   2 for 2 at Del Mar and 0 for 2 elsewhere.....Sadler likely will pull out all stops to have this filly primed for her last race at Del Mar until next summer.....wants the front end and seems like the most likely to get it

7  Bad Ju Ju  strong winning race 1st out following the Peter Miller claim.....very deserving of a step into the next alw level.....Miller can do no wrong this fall and that is especially so when teaming up with Arroyo

5  Lily Pod   last two endeavors on the dirt are strong (10 Jan & 27 July) and her latest is a well disguised effort at Del Mar where she ran too wide and did so pressing a decent pace......turf to dirt angle for today.......positive rider change.....plenty of potential for a big race

4  Ultimate Holiday

race 7    average clarity

2  Aries   very consistent sort .........strong Grade 3 race in her 1st in the USA at Saratoga.........good works works since.....likes very quick turf and ships x-country to get.......and she competes at same distance as her Sar race

1  Nuovo Record   ran a very even effort in BCFMTrf from a miserable post (outer-most 13 post) ......her regular jock in Japan is here to ride which sure seems like a plus......five year old mare has earned about 4 times more money than the rest of the field combined......yikes

5  Frenzified   on the improve for Cassidy and company since arriving in the good old U S of A.......and she is 1 for 1 at the 11 furlong distance and the race was at Del Mar........seems likly to get a decent up close ground saving position

8  Fresh Feline

race 8    average clarity

3  Big Champion    suspicious drop for this Glatt three-year old gelding as he sure has run well in his last two and did so  stepping up multiple levels......but........Glatt has successfully dropped many in 2016 with success.......why stop now

2  Frosted Boss   lone effort ever on the Del Mart dirt is easily his best of his life and is extremely hidden......broke a little tardy - rushed some to press a solid pace - and ran too wide ......I gave him 9 1/2 lengths of trip trouble......he was beaten by  6 1/2L......not sure how well is he doing these days but if he is doing OK.......lookout

10  Regal Reign   best racing on the Del Mar surface.....blinkers off and a recent bullet 3F work.......best surface  +  and equipment change that seems to have helped  =  lifetime best

6  Global Event

9  Woody Boy

7  Julia's Summer
