Del Mar for Friday 25 November 2016

OK race card today and at first glance Saturday's appears quite good.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving day.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

5  Rosarita   alarming drop to the bottom claiming level but the morning work hints there still is something left in this five-year old mare......and she was claimed back in Jan. for only $4,500 more than she is up for today

9  Altaira   consistent sort (17 4 5 5) and her lifetime best was run on the Del Mar dirt and at today's 6F distance........good history with the bug boy up......all 4 lifetime wins are at the 6F

1  General Ann   another alarming drop........hasn't raced since April and that race is the only time she has been able to compete in 2016......does she have an effort in her?...... flip a coin

4  Mudge

race 2    below average clarity

1  My Uncle   nice par like MSW debut on the dirt in August......disappointed at 3 to 5 in October.......facing the grass and a route both for the first time this afternoon but with a solid pedigree to handle the changes......hot trainer in Puype and a good portion of his success over the last couple of months is with Elliott up

7  Jet Set Man   solid grass MSW debut down the SA hill.....showed plenty of early speed........so Theriot has a decent shot to get a good spot on or near the lead and keep his mount out of trouble.....and Brain Koriner is much more dangerous with 2nd time starters

5  Hot Rodin   good history running off of short rest and 14 days since his latest sure qualifies for that ......like our top pick he should be in the mix early.......new unproven sire but his blood lines suggest his progeny should like the grass and a route......we shall see

10  Evicted

Long-shot consideration:   9  The Golden Kid   toss out last as he seemed to dislike the dirt.....back to the grass today where his best ever on it was his lone race on the Del Mar turf......that race produced multiple next out winners......also that race was at 1 1/16th and today's shorter route distance appears to be a plus.....rider/trainer have won with some big prices in the past

race 3    above average clarity

6  Hot Smoke   repeat of his latest sure could win this and the 6 1/2 furlong distance seems like a perfect fit and likely won't be for a few in this race including the 5 horse who did beat our top choice on 6 Oct

2  Elwood   MSW debut run 3 races back fits and the effort was run at Del Mar......next two endeavors do not........so Hollendorfer wisely gives his two-year some time off to get his mojo back....adds blinkers....and has him training like a rebound should occur

3  Ms Wakaya   filly vs the colts and geldings but she ran a strong 2nd in her latest vs. her own sex and did so despite a wide trip........better trip with 5 lbs off and she might have a shot at beating the boys

race 4    average clarity

9  Sturdy One   has done little wrong in 3 lifetime turf races at the abbreviated 5F distance (3 1 2 0)....and she seemingly gets plenty of early gas up front to flatter her mid pack running style

3  Lajatico   ran a par like adjusted for trouble fig in her 1st race in the good old U S of A and did so at a route.....she was a successful turf sprinter in GB.....retains Prat.....like our top pick she should sit off what should be a hot pace up front and be motoring late

8  Tale of Papa Nick   poor trips in all 3 lifetime races at today's 5F on the sod......drops into claiming for the 1st time and does so off an eye-popping 45 flat work.....Baltas is trying to put a different level of early speed into her.....and Richard likely means business as he knows she might be claimed today

5  Miss Loujean

race 5    average clarity

4  Pontificator   Spawr appears to have his 1st time starter ready for her MC debut with a steady series of muscle-building 5F works......and her best work is her last and at Dmr hinting she is at her sharpest when it counts the most

5  Aura Rose   woke up in her 3rd lifetime start and 1st in a maiden claiming.....good a.m. work since and steps up hinting Truman likes what he sees

8  Tell My Fortune   25 to 1 in her debut hints the effort was needed (and really not that bad).....and the a.m. work hints she benefited from the race and that much more should occur today......trainer has had a good year and might add to it here

6  Wicked Favor

race 6    above average clarity

4  Texas Ryano   just keeps improving one baby step at a time and some of the improvement is hidden........smaller field today should help traffic wise as should a better post........11 - 10 - 12 post in last 3 race......4 post today......sharp recent bullet 5F work

7  Ashleyluvssugar   very good speed in this spot and consistent including at today's 12 turf furlongs where this five-year old is 2 for 3.....Hall Fame jock Stevens is well acquainted with his mount as is 8 mounts in his last 9 races

2  Royal Albert Hall   runs all day long so the 12 furlongs should help his chances of getting in the mix in the late stages......1st time blinkers and decent works.......potential for lifetime best is there

1  Ralis

race 7    average clarity

3  My Italian Babbo     solid MSW debut way back in Feb running 2nd by a nose despite breaking slow and running a little wide........returns with a major league trainer upgrade.....and the works sure hint Baltas has him very fit and ready for a big effort

2  Prime Attraction   32 to 1 in MSW debut hints the sprint was tune-up and a tune-up that has helped as his a.m. prowess since is vastly improved.....and the connections didn't shell out $335K to have a sprinter

7  Taniko   always tough to get a 1st time starter to cope with two turns to start their career but the works for this D'Amato are very aggressive.....and mom has tossed 4 winners from 4 starters 2 of which were Stakes winners.....seems dangerous

6  Chiksika

race 8    average clarity

2  Unlikely Story   Cal-bred showed some life in an open company turf route in his latest......and since he has put in a steady diet of 5F weekly drills.......back vs State-breds today and a soft looking group at that

8  Extreme Heat   decent sprint MSW debut and a much improved work tab since.......all systems go for his 2nd lifetime start.........owns an excellent pedigree to appreciate a mile turf route

5  He's All That   sprint-sprint-route scenario here for Cassidy and company......rider upgrade.....decent pedigree for a turf route......dangerous

11  Alsatian

4  Bottle Service

3  Hogan
