Los Alamitos for Saturday 10 December 2016

Two important Grade 1 races today one with a disappointing 5 horse field and the other with a decent sized 9 horse field. $39,869 pick 6 carryover.

Best of luck as always!

race 1    average clarity

3  Aikau   sharp trainer 1st out following a claim in Treece and he appears to have made a good one here as this gelding ran a solid 4 1/4L win in his latest off of a two month layoff........reassuring bullet 3F work since......most of career fits fine here

5  Senator Bob   inconsistent sort but if he runs one of his good efforts he should be very tough in this race.......and he has proved himself on the Lrc surface

6  Initiative   recent times at LA are solid for today's level......but......he has yet to fire a race at Lrc (albeit in only two opportunities) the would fit.....deserves one one shot?

race 2    average clarity

6  Warrensdollarsigns   nicely improved since Miyadi claimed 6 races back......4 of the 5 races run under Miyadi's guidance fit solidly here......Steward Elliot seemingly needs to avoid a suicidal speed duel one way or another

1  Hurricane Calle   one for one at Lrc and Miller drops his filly multiple levels.......enters for 14K to get an extra 2 lbs off.......and puts 7 lbs bug boy Solis up......that makes for a 110 lbs weight assignment.....should be motoring late and with feather weight on her back

3  Veronica Bay   best of the rest will need failures from our top two choices to win

race 3    average clarity

7  Woot Woot   two wins and a 2nd in three races with Arroyo up.....and all three races sure fit well in this spot.........cut back in distance seems fine as does the fact she is up for a tag as Miller is seldom afraid to lose a horse to get a win

6  Feel Freely   improving sort and she won the Dmr version of this race in her latest.....and she also won her race 2 back which was her only lifetime effort at Lrc and was at today's 5 1/2 furlongs

4  Lil Miss Sapphire   seems to be the speed of the speed in this spot and that is a good thing as this two-year old filly appears to be a need to lead type.......but she is easy to make our 3rd pick as our top two picks will likely be stalking her closely if she does grab the front end

1  Start to Finish

race 4    average clarity

4  Zenita   invader can really fly in the early stages and has won his last three 5 1/2 furlong races by an average of over 7 lengths...........sure seem tough if he handles his 1st on the Lrc surface

5  Spicy Blonde   drop doesn't bother me much as Heap only claimed this filly for 20K........rider/trainer recently teamed up for a win.......2 for 3 at today's distance......solid 5 1/2F race run 3 back at Lrc run following a 5F turf race......5 furlongs of grass in last........hmmm

1  Herunbridledpower   hard to argue with 2 wins & 2 2nd's in 4 lifetime dirt races all of which were sprints.......not out of this by any means

race 5    average clarity

5  Basic Boots   much improved early speed 1st out following the Gary Sherlock claim........and a sizzling sub 34 flat work since......seems like the most likely leader in this affair which lacks early speed types......only time this filly snatched a loose lead she won

7  Desert Thief    on the improve since Beccera claimed......and it is a really good sign that Arroyo doesn't jump ship.....and why would he considering how well this filly just worked on 4 Dec......last fits and she might improve again

4  Zuzu's Petals   consistent sort and that includes Lrc........ gets the best jock on her back in a very long time and with a trainer who is 25% win with his last 100 2nd out after a claim in Robertino Diodoro......not out of the win picture by any means

1  Tiz Makin Memories

race 6    average clarity

3  Mastery   won his 2nd lifetime start about as easy as you can in total control in the likely feels great for today's big race and his 1st at a route.....blinkers go back on for today likely because he showed much better early speed in his debut which was also a win.......Baffert wins so many big races with speed and this colt should be the "speed" here

4  Show Me Da Lute   never an easy task to win your two-year old MSW debut running as far as 1 1/16.......but this Baffert colt did.......and a very nice work series since........needs to build on his debut and rather sure that he will

2  Bobby Abu Dhabi   won his debut despite a wide trip up on the's a new meeting but that doesn't mean Miller can't remain in unconscious mode.......very dangerous 2nd timer starter

race 7    average clarity

6  Adios Cali   rather sure this Miller 1st timer is ready to roll at 1st asking as her work regiment is quite good for a two-year old filly state-bred and Miller is using his go to jock in Arroyo.......and mom has tossed 3 winner with 3 starters

2  Divine Spark   2nd lifetime start is OK for this Baffert Cal-bred but lookout if she shows her early speed that she displayed in her MSW debut......if she does she should be tough with one furlong less to run that she had to in her debut

7  Proper Drink   SCRATCHED OUT   speed of the speed as she led our 2nd choice in her since in preparation for today's 2nd lifetime start are improved......gate to wire win is not impossible especially if the track plays favorably for speed types

3  Crowded Way

race 8    average clarity

7  American Gal   very bad journey as the favorite in the FBCJuvfilly Grade 1........did extremely well to still manage 3rd......impressive 6F bullet work since.......should be tough with a much better trip

6  Abel Tasman   effort/fig run by this Callaghan filly in her latest which was run at 7F is better than par for today's she just needs to do it around two turns for the 1st time.....pedigree to handle a route is decent

8  Fact of Life   double barrel action from Baffert......filly basically ran as well as our 2nd choice in the aforementioned strong 7F alw race......just like the 6 horse this is her 1st at a route of ground.........dangerous

2  Union Strike

race 9   average clarity

5  Yodelers Way   most of her career fits well for this Mike Harrington filly who seems at her best with blinkers on.......and she should appreciate the cut back in distance of one full furlong

6  Gonzo   broke slowly and was rank early in his MSW debut.......blinkers taken off for his 2nd start and with better works showing......lookout if the equipment change settles this youngster down some.......recent a.m. work hints that it has

1  Downside Up   it is a family affair as Pat Harrington trains this two-year old who like Mike's two-year old is rather consistent and should find "the easy pickins" at Lrc more to his liking

2  We Go Now

4  Proud Singer

9  Rainbow Squall
